Work the Skirt

I am one of those girls who actually loves dressing up for work.  Our office has become much more business casual over the years so gone are the days of business suits but sometimes I just don’t feel as professional in the more casual attire.  Last week on one of our warmer Texas days I pulled together this look and was feeling quite sassy!

I found this flowerbud top while shopping in Vegas and quickly fell in love.  It works great tucked in as I’ve worn here but also looks great worn loosely with pants or jeans.

I’ve had this J. Crew Skirt for several years but the hemline had come loose and I finally made my way to the tailor to have it fixed and it was a perfect pair with this top.  J. Crew Factory has 50% off everything right now with no exclusions!

Of course I’m still totally in love with this Stella & Dot striped bag!  It holds my 15″ Mac perfectly as well as my planner and whatever smaller purse I decide to carry.  The straps are the perfect length for me.  I would LOVE to help you earn a bag for yourself by hosting a trunk show so be sure to contact me if you are interested!

There is just something about a great pair of heels too.  I’ve been wearing so many booties instead and it’s been so long since I’ve worn a basic heel.  These Michael Kors pumps are anything but basic! I scored then on sale over a year ago and can you believe I had never worn them?  Please tell me I’m not the only one who participates in such madness!  They were so darn comfortable and I won’t be wasting time watching them sit in my closet from now on.

I’m loving how this came together and have already added a couple of skirts to my shopping cart at J. Crew waiting for a good sale.

  1. The skirt is GORGEOUS!!! Love the way you added the pattern top! isn't it amazing how just the right outfit makes us feel GREAT?!?!

  2. That is super cute! I love the black and white pops. I'm with ya. Some teachers dress really casual. I kind of dress how I'm feeling. Some days casual and some days dressed up.

  3. You are definitely rocking the skirt Shell. The blouse and tote are so great and I love that they are both in black+white patterns. Such a chic look!

Welcome by and join my recent linkup. Thanks, Ada. =)

  4. I love getting dressed up for work. I can definitely tell a difference in my attitude depending on what I'm wearing. Heels for me are the key. You look great, Shelly. I'm crushing on that bag!

  5. One of the offices on our floor changed their policy several years back to allow people to basically dress casual all the time unless they have meetings. Some take it to the extreme and honestly….I feel if you dress sloppy for work it bleeds over into your performance. I just feel more professional when I'm dressed nice. The bag…oh this bag….I seriously am in love!

  6. This look is so cute!! The pattern mixing is perfect and that purse is just adorable. I really like to dress up as well (but for school). It just makes me feel much more productive! And I sadly also have a problem with waiting to wear new items. I'm gonna go and try to copy this look right now! 🙂

  7. I love dressing up for work too. It makes me feel so pulled together and on top of the world even if I have food all on me at night from Leighton throwing it! Love this pretty colored skirt!

  8. First of all, I love this look, Shelly, and can so see myself wearing it to the office. While I can dress more business casual to a degree, I prefer being Dressed. Second, Ummm, no you are so not alone with buying things and waiting forever to wear them. I cannot tell you how many things are in my closet with tags still on. I am seriously trying to work through those items. Lastly, I have also been wearing so many booties and boots this year, and my pumps have been experiencing some serious neglect.

  9. You know I loved this outfit very very much Shelly. You are indeed working the skirt, in the most elegant way possible!

As a matter of fact I featured this look today on my Thursday Moda. It is a stunner! Come take a peak. 😉

I welcome you to stop by the blog and share your awesome style with my readers on my new linkup, this week. Happy Hump Day! Thanks, Ada! =)

  10. I also like looking polished at work, even though it is a casual environment. I love this look with the cute blouse and bright skirt!
