Work to Play + TBB Linkup

One of the questions I asked myself before adding a piece to my closet is whether it can take me from work to play. With busy kids there are so many days we are moving straight from work to after school activities which means small window of opportunity to change.  It really helps to have pieces which work well for work but can quickly move to play by just switching up a piece or tow.

Pleione tops are one of those pieces for me.  These tops are so versatile, come in so many different colors and patterns and really work well dressed up for the office.

Pencil Skirt

I initially ordered this Halogen skirt with the exposed zipper but it just didn’t feel right on me.  I traded for this one and it worked much better in both length and fit.  A black pencil skirt is pretty much a staple in a working girls closet!  If you are in need of a “back to school” tote for work, I recommend this adorable striped bag.  Not only does it work with so many outfits, it holds my 15″ Macbook effortlessly!

Y’all already know how much love I have for these old shoes and really dread the day they are worn out!  So far I have not found a worthy replacement but thinking these might be worth a shot.  I also tossed in my favorite leopard cuff for a little pattern mixing.

City Shorts

This top works equally as well with the city shorts.  While I love my J. Crew Factory shorts, the fabric of this pair is a little dressier.  They are currently an extra 40% off which bring them under $20 and I’ve ordered in two more colors to try.

Gladiator Sandals

Dropping the heels for my sandals will take me to an after work parent teacher meeting with ease.  This pair is from last year but a very similar pair is still in stock.  I was super pleased with these for two years in a row in both quality and comfort.

And seriously, are you guys sick of seeing this clutch yet?  Y’all, it is just so cute and I have been so happy with how easily it works with so many different outfits.

I would love to help you earn the fun clutch or the striped tote for yourself by hosting a virtual Stella & Dot party! Contact me at sjanac69@gmail.com if you are interested!

  1. Love flipping off my work heels and putting on flats. In fact, I am doing that today!! You’re a cutie patootie!!

  2. Both looks are great and you pull them off effortlessly. I have to agree that everyone that works in an office needs a black pencil skirt. They are so easy to style in a rush.

  3. I just wore one of my Pleione tops like that Monday! Love them. They are so versatile and comfortable too. Love how you can transition them!

  4. Loving this outfit especially with the shorts! Such a pretty top <3

I also wanted to answer your question on my blog since I was unable to reply via email. My hair is pretty fine, so a lot of products weigh it down. But that hair mask has been great at taming the frizz without weighing it down 😉

  6. I love how you think “how much wear can I get from this” because I do the same. Because I’m a SAHM I don’t need to dress fancy as much as I once did so when I find something I love, I talk myself through the ways in which I can wear it.

    1. Girl…I use to be the matchy, matchy queen and could not put clothes together to save my life. I was constantly buying more because I was so sick of wearing the same thing over and over. What a change it’s made to be able to mix and match my closet!

  7. I love what you did here Shelly, that top looks great both ways! You are gorgeous in that pencil skirt my friend!!!
