Fall Fashion Inspiration

My biggest struggle is pulling an outfit together on my own and trusting I can pull it off.  Pinterest and Instagram have pretty much changed the way I view my closet and I thought today I would show you a little glimpse of a few previously underutilized pieces.
When I saw this outfit on Pinterest I knew it had potential!
This dress has been in my closet since the spring of 2012.  I bought it specifically to wear to Riley’s baseball games his senior year and I also wore it the day Jordan received her Aggie ring but after that it has really not seen much attention.  I pulled it out last spring and began wearing it again and you can see the three ways I styled it for spring here.

Time for fall and this color is on top of the charts.  I am really great about purging clothes I do not wear or I am not comfortable in but every once in awhile there is an item such as this cardigan that I truly love but just hasn’t found the right pairing.  This cardigan is also about 5 years old and I can honestly say I have probably only worn a handful of times.  It pulled this little outfit together perfectly don’t you think?

I have typically paired longer cardigans with leggings and boots but I believe there have definitely been some missed opportunities.   I can hardly wait for the weather to cool off enough to wear these Frye boots.

I love hats and picked this one up at Target last week.  I don’t have tons of opportunities to wear a hat but I am loving how it added a little extra flare to this outfit.  I love the look of turquoise with this color too and this tassel necklace I picked up on my trip to Round Top has been so fun.

I’ve also had fun participating in weekly Instagram style challenges which have given me so many ideas for pulling together items in my closet.  On this particular day the combo was burgundy and olive.

I added the leopard scarf to pull this all together.

I am loving the Lucky booties I picked up during the Nordstrom anniversary sale.

You will notice in both outfits I am wearing one of my Farmgirl Paints cuffs.  I am serious when I saw these are my favorite.  Pick out your personalized cuff today and use code FANGIRLSHELLYJ for 15% off!  My exact cuff I’m wearing in the first outfit is shown below.  Such a great reminder!

  1. I see you are drunk on wine again Ms. Shelly. You know I love this dress. I loved it the first time I saw it on you. That is a pretty cascading cardigan over it. The ruffles of the dress match those of the cardi. I also like it layered hat with that cute hat (I want) and a classic leopard scarf. I am a leopard scarf hoarder. LOL

  2. Love it! & I agree sometimes it's hard to imagine myself wearing something… I just have to put it on and then I'll know I can pull it off!! 🙂 love the different options for layering with cardigans and or a jacket!

  3. Great minds think alike! I'm working on a similar post! Love the wine and green combo! Those two colors are definitely popular this fall! Paroosing Pinterest in the evenings and early mornings for office fashion ideas is becoming a habit of mine. You look great!

  4. You don't even need to worry about being able to pull off an outfit – because you do. Every. Time. I love what you did and then adding the hat was so creative!

  5. Love it!! You are so cute in the hat. It's still so hot here in Dallas! I don't know if we will ever get to pull out boots.
