White Out – Ageless Style Linkup

The Ageless Style Link-Up – The first Tuesday of every month ten over 40 bloggers present a different style theme and show a myriad of ways to wear it, all the while proving you can still be fashionable and on trend over 40 and beyond.  Fashion has no age limit!  This month the theme chosen by the ever hilarious and fun loving Paula is white out.  Be sure to check out all of our looks and share yours! 

Wearing a white dress in the summer is such a crisp, clean look don’t you think?  Starting with an all white base is simple and easy to pull off for pretty much anyone.  I kept this look super simple by using neutral accessories and my favorite summer wedge.  This fabulous clutch gives a little punch of color to truly create the perfect summer look.

While we rarely reserve white from Memorial Day to Labor Day anymore, I do find myself wearing it more in the summer months.  I really never knew the history behind this fashion rule but after a little research found it came about in the 19th century as New York City was industrialized and very dirty.   The streets were filled with soot, waste and horse crap so of course people wore dark clothing.  When the wealthy escaped to the city from Memorial Day to Labor Day, they took their white clothing along with them.  White became associated with the wealthy or those who did not have to work during the summer.  Just an interesting little tidbit of fashion history!

While I do not fit the category of wealthy and I definitely still have to work all summer, keeping my whites white is a challenge for me! My family can attest to the fact I am messy.  Whether it’s ink from a pen at work, a little reminder of my lunch or a splatter while cooking dinner, I often end up with a spot or two on my clothes.  Making sure to treat any stains immediately is critical to keeping the whites wearable.  Another great tip is adding vinegar to the water when washing an all white load.

I’m a sucker for this look, however, so I’m going to keep pulling all white together!  Are you a fan of wearing white?
