What’s Up Wednesday (Sept) + TBB Linkup
Today I’m linking up with Shay, Mel & Sheaffer for this months What’s Up Wednesday! The questions are in pink so check it out and join the fun. Also joining Jessi and Jenn for What’s Hap- “Pinning” Wednesday. Plus, be sure to link up your favorite look with The Blended Blog!
What We’re Eating this Week
On Sunday Keith grilled up some tenderloins, baked potatoes and bacon wrapped shrimp and we made enough to stretch through Monday. I made a pot roast in the instant pot on Tuesday and you can see the recipe over at The Blended Blog for Tasty Tuesday! It was delicious! Due to the current state of our house, I’m going to have to think that will be our last meal at home until the painting is complete.
What I’m Reminiscing About
This sweet angel girl! Carly Jo turned 12 last Friday and it has been so fun seeing pictures from years past pop up!
What I’m Loving
For the past year I pretty much have set red wine aside as every single time I ended up feeling like I was having a sinus attack. One night I was out with a girlfriend and she suggested this wine and not only does it taste amazing, no sinus issue the day after!
What We’ve Been Up To
I’ve had some sweet time with my kids this month!
The boys and I went to a Cody Johnson concert at an outdoor venue and it was so much fun! I always forget how much I love live music until I’m there.
This precious girl and I had our monthly dinner last Wednesday and she inspired me to write a bit about the adventures of parenting with 3 bullet proof tips!
I snuck off for a girls weekend with this girl and her bestie at a resort in The Woodlands and I can’t wait to share all the details soon.
What I’m Dreading
You’re feeling better about your life right now aren’t you?!! This is the current state of my bedroom, garage and guest bedroom. I’m really dreading putting all of this stuff back where it belongs but also how long it might be before I’m able to!
What I’m Working On
Some updates around the house! Yesterday painters started the process of painting my kitchen, living and “front room” from the beigy tan which has served us well to Revere Pewter. I have muddled through and painted here and there over the past 13 years of living here but, y’all, it was just all too much for me to do well. The woodwork and ceilings all needed to be updated and there are just not enough hours. We’ve been saving up for a long time and I’m excited to have some updates.
What I’m Excited About
My biggest challenge is pulling a room together. I can totally tell you once it is all done if I like it or not but I have absolutely zero vision. We found a couch we love and I’m still using my grandmothers chairs but they needed some updating so they are off to be reupolstered. A rug, fun new ottoman and some curtains will hopefully have this space feeling a little more cozy. The girls I’m working with have set a date for early October to install everything and I’m crossing my fingers when it is all done we have created the space I was hoping for!
What I’m Watching/Reading
My friend Katy told me long ago to watch Jane the Virgin but I just didn’t even think I’d like it (I know right?) but when my sister-in-law also started raving about it I decided on a recent sick day to see what it was all about! Y’all, totally committed! She is just so stinkin’ cute and I’m dying to find out what happens!
I was able to finish up 3 books in August and another 3 in September (so proud) and I’ll have my full September review up and ready tomorrow. Let me just say if you are into love stories with lots of twists you might want to check out Kerry Lonsdale.
What I’m Listening To
Did you know Jen Hatmaker has a podcast? Well, I didn’t either! I’ve loved listening to her interviews with interesting people like Brene’ Brown, Annie Downs and Ruth Wariner.
And surprisingly, I’ve been asking Alexa to play me some jazz while I cook dinner and there has just been something really soothing about the music with zero words. Seriously this is a first for me so there is hope for everyone! We had the Amazon Tap for months before I realized I could use blue tooth to actually just say commands versus tapping and it has been a game changer.
What I’m Wearing
I know, I know, me and every other blogger out there right? Really, we are not kidding this dress is fabulous! I intend a full post with some styling options for fall but it is selling out quick so I wanted you to at least see it on. I am 5’7″ and it is still an appropriate length for me even though it appears super short on the model. And, y’all, this baby had been folded up in my bag from the weekend before I pulled it out to take this picture. It has one wrinkle but other than that it traveled perfectly! So far I have grabbed the black and this wine color but really wish I had snagged the navy too.
Plaid Popover | Shorts | Slip On Shoes | Bag (similar) | Renegade Cluster | Ray Bans | Earrings
This plaid popover was part of my fall transitional picks and I’m so glad I decided to grab it. The colors will work great for fall or spring and it is lightweight enough to wear now but also layer under my fave field jacket when it gets cooler. I also picked up these slip on sneakers from Target and so far I am loving them! Am I the only one who has to wear socks with these type shoes to keep from getting blisters though?
How have I been dressing up for fall but still managing to work with the 90 degree days and high humidity? Just add booties! My love for these Pleione tops is no secret and on a day when I’m just not feeling it a great pair of black jeans is dressy enough to look pulled together in the office. Yes, still carrying the black & white tote until I narrow down a bag I love as much! Considering the ever popular Barrington bag in the axis deer print.
What I’m Doing this Weekend
I’m heading for a little tailgating and some time at Kyle Field! My brother is bringing his kids and I’m looking forward to attending our first game of the season!
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month
Riley was invited to play in the fall league in Arizona and I couldn’t miss the chance to use baseball as an excuse for a vacation watch him pitch! I’ve booked Sanctuary Camelback in Scottsdale and I’m working on our itinerary for the 5 days we are there! Hoping for a day trip to the Grand Canyon or to Horseshoe Bend in Paige Arizona and really wanting to take a hot air balloon ride. Other than that I am looking forward to some hiking and relaxing! Oh…and some baseball! Do you have some must dos in the Phoenix area?
Bonus: What TV Show Are You Most Excited About This Fall
Hands down, This is Us! I was sick to my stomach this past week when I realized the last two episodes from last season I was saving up to watch in September had been erased from my DVR….oh the misery! But quickly found a place to watch them!

Great outfits!!!
So much goodness Shelly! My mouth is watering right now thinking about that amazing grill filled with all kinds of deliciousness. Love that plaid popover, terrific colors! Happy Wednesday friend!
xo,
Kellyann
I was the same way with This Is Us. I held on to the season finale a little too long and it vanished from our DVR, too. However, I was able to find it on NBC.com and watched it before the season premeire last night! And I cried, too.
I love the format of your post! Its great to read about all the different things one does in life! I really need a good book to read because I’ve been working on taking more time to relax. Happy Wednesday!

I just got back from a girls trip in Scottsdale a few weekends ago. WHAT A FUN CITY!!!! One thing we did that I would totally recommend is a lunch time food tour with Arizona Food Tours. We took the Old Town Scottsdale tour and it was AMAZING! The food was just out of this world good. Plus the guide was great; lots of history and local knowledge. If you can snag tickets and have the time, GO FOR IT!
You are going to love all the new fresh paint! It’s so funny how a little bit of paint can make such a huge difference. I have had 3 paint colors on our living room walls now in less than 2 years. But I finally found the right color and we love it. I can’t wait to see the outcome of yours!
I bet Carly Jo’s weekend away for her Birthday was just SO much fun!!!
Have a great Wednesday!
So much fun stuff here! Happy 12th birthday to your sweet girl! Loving your outfits (as always) and happy you found a great new wine! (I’m a cab sav girl myself!)
Can’t wait to see the house updates and that place is Arizona looks amazing!
girl….I’m counting the days!! I can’t wait to get there and relax.
Wow. love your list of things.. You look fantastic in burgundy Shelly! I never tire of this color. I know what you mean about 90 degree days, its hot here too in NC! Love the plans for your getaway, it looks amazing. The pics of your daughter growing up are precious.. my mom has all of the pics at her house and i like to look at them when i am home. We are working on getting an estimate for painting inside, as our 2 story great room, needs done!
Have a great week!

Yes, I do feel better about my life after seeing your bedroom. JK! No, seriously, I was looking at some of the rooms of my house, my office in particular, which has really accumulated a lot of clutter. I need to go through it and start tossing things out. Winter project! I LOVE your fall outfits! That place in Arizona looks amazing. Lucky you!
Amy I really hope I’m able to force myself to put everything back slowly and only keep what I truly love.
OK – we really need to catch up more “in real life” versus me reading your blog! 🙂 Quick question – who are you using for upholstery? I need the chair in our bedroom re-done (for the 4th or 5th time – haha!). And, you guys are going to LOVE Arizona – but can I please talk you out of a hot air balloon?! Yikes!
We will see if I chicken out on the balloon…..it’s on my bucket list but, I mean, that’s easy to scratch off. haha
Yay for house updates, we’ve been in our house for 8 years and I’m so tired of everything in it…I need a change! Love that maroon dress, off to see where it is from. Funny enough I haven’t seen it, or maybe never noticed it on anyone else. So for me, it’s new and you’re the first, hehe. Then maybe I’m the second.
Girl…we put new flooring in and never painted the quarter round when it was replaced….for 13 years I’ve been irritated by this! haha…but now it’s painted!! Seriously can’t wait for them to finish….hoping they get some paint on the walls today so I can be reassured that I love it.
I adore your mama heart! You are so sweet! I can’t wait to see the finished rooms (and I know it can’t come soon enough for you) I bet that color is going to look so beautiful!!! All of your outfits are darling and I totally want Keith to grill me some yummy supper. I wish I had a good excuse to plan a get away under the guise of supporting my kids…LOL Happy Wednesday friend!!! XOXO
Deep breaths over here lady….I did not mentally prepare myself for this little paint job. haha
Oh my gosh…I was watching your Snap story a little while ago. I know what you are going through. We had our ENTIRE house done at once and it took an ENTIRE week of living with it upside down. Just hang in there…and keep making your bed😉 #controlwhatyoucan AND…law of the jungle. Right before a hair appointment your hair is always cooperative. hahaha
Well hello cute thing! Your outfits are just so sweet. I love that good ole kid/mom time. We get a lot of it here but unfortunately its in the regular day to day and no extras right now. Your rooms are looking good! Or rather room – that one is scary! However, if I were closer we would button those rooms right up! I love that side of my business – I get a credit card and a “make it happen” look and we are good to go! Now…why can’t I do it for me?!?! So checking out Jen Hatmaker’s podcast! The book you loaned me totally fell apart what would you like for me to do?
Lol…girl throw that book away! Wasn’t that just ridiculous? It was seriously a brand new book from Amazon!!
I had my office painted in Revere Pewter last Summer. LOVE it so much!! Jane the Virgin…oh my gosh! I’m addicted!! I just started Season 3. I go back and forth, but I’m pretty sure I’m Team Rafael! Have a great day!
I hope I love it Erica! And I still can’t decide which team I’m on but I definitely feel like there is more chemistry with Rafael!
What a precious family you have, friend!
Thank you Carrie!
I wonder why red wine has been making your sinuses act up? I have noticed that when I have a cold or am already stuffy that red wine makes it like ten times worse and I’ve always wondered why!
I really think depending on how it’s processed some of the tanins just get to me. I always know because I will also wake up at like 3am from a deep sleep and immediately feel like my head is stopped up. I’m on like bottle 8 of this wine over the past month or so and so far no issues.
My house is looking the exact same way since I’m in the process of moving. I will finally have all of my things in one place on Sunday but then the unpacking and organizing still has to happen!
Day 3 of the crazy….I think I can, I think I can….like I even have a choice. I am determined to not put anything back I do not love though so I’m hoping this really does help me clean out some areas I haven’t touched in awhile.
I am so excited to see the final product on your home. You always do such a great job of decorating. I can only imagine how anxious you are to have everything back together though. What a great trip you have coming up. I have Arizona on my list of places that I would like to go. That hotel looks amazing. What a sweet month you have had with your kiddos!
Jenna you are so sweet….I feel like a total failure when it comes to decorating! I am crossing my fingers I love all this when it’s done because I don’t plan on touching it ever again aside from maybe changing a few pillows out or something lol.
Love the color you picked for the rooms! Cant wait to see it all done! …..Well you know me, I would be golfing in Scottsdale. LOL…..oh and doing a Segway tour. You should totally look into Gekks. They are amazing. Google them if you’ve never heard of them before. The little socks stay in your shoes and you can wash them and change them out. LIFE CHANGING for me. I love them! Especially in my Tieks and my Converse Shoreline sneakers!! Have a great rest of your week!
Thanks for the heads up on the Gekks! I’ll check them out. No golf for me but I am super excited to plan this trip!!
Love that plaid top! And how fun to start doing some painting!
http://www.mylittlenest.org
Thanks Ruth! Whew….it was a really long and chaotic week but the painters finished up last night and we can start moving our furniture back in today! Looks so clean and fresh and I’m thrilled.
Loving that plaid top! I totally have to wear socks with those kind of shoes too.
I really love that dress and Arizona is absolutely gorgeous.
