What’s Up Wednesday – October + TBB Linkup
Today I’m linking up with Shay, Mel & Sheaffer for this months What’s Up Wednesday! The questions are in pink so check it out and join the fun. Also joining Jessi and Jenn for What’s Hap- “Pinning” Wednesday. Plus, be sure to link up your favorite look with The Blended Blog!
What We’re Eating this Week
Hmmm…that’s a really great question! I actually meal planned for the week and made this sausage and tomato frittata along with some chicken salad to make lettuce wraps for my lunches. I used a paleo friendly mayo, rotisserie chicken, apple, celery and some salt, pepper and cumin and it is so delicious!
We have been eating on fajitas cooked on Sunday for dinner but it’s looking like I will need to cook tonight…yikes! Maybe I will find some good ideas while browsing the WUW posts!
What I’m Reminiscing About
My life! I turned 48 last week and shared 48 years of me in a little birthday post. It was fun to look back over the past 48 years and think about all the twist and turns, struggles and success.
What I’m Loving
All the birthday surprises and time with friends! Even though my birthday was actually last week I don’t mind stretching it out!
Monday I arrived home late to find this delicious box of treats my college friend Lisa had delivered. I may or may not have skipped dinner and only had cookies!
As if that wasn’t enough, my friend Holly left this amazing cuff on my porch! She definitely speaks my love language! We were able to share margaritas and tacos and a 2 hour lunch on my actual birthday but somehow we failed to take a picture!
And Tuesday I met up with this lovely friend for martinis at happy hour. So thankful for sweet friends in my life who love me just the way I am!
What We’ve Been Up To
Keith and I took a little trip to Scottsdale and it was an amazing chance to relax and have some time to enjoy each other!
What I’m Dreading
Honestly nothing at the moment!
What I’m Working On
Our breakfast area is adjacent to the kitchen and the entry point from our garage which equates to the place everything gets dumped. Rarely is there not stuff piled on top of my kitchen table and/or bar so it has been my dream to have something built in to replace an old fashioned china cabinet which would be more functional for our family. The picture above was my inspiration.
Well, my dreams are finally coming true! The built in has been installed and painters come tomorrow to start the process of painting this piece! I can hardly wait to have this completed!
What I’m Excited About
I finally pulled out a few fall items to decorate with and I’m so glad I did! I definitely kept it a little more simple this year and I’m loving the way it turned out. The only new item I purchased were these placemats and I’m still thinking I need to head back and grab the table runner for my entry table. See my home tour for a little wicked and a little sweet!
What I’m Watching/Reading
Ummm….the World Series, duh!
In September I knocked a few books off my list but October has been a complete bust! I’m currently reading Big Little Lies but it’s going pretty darn slow!
What I’m Listening To
So, my teen finally talked me into listening to Spotify and I found so many great Texas country playlists. Then Erica from The Second House on the Right shared she was listening to the Emily Ley playlists and I’ve been hooked!
What I’m Wearing
I quickly fell in love with this camo cold shoulder top (in a dress here) I was also excited to pull out my new booties and they are super comfortable.
This leopard scarf has been on repeat! I didn’t think I needed a new one but this one is very lightweight and the perfect size. Still loving my peep toe booties too and have been seriously wearing them 3-5 times per week!
I also shared my fall Stitch Fix box and this dress was the keeper! It will be great all year long with a few tweaks.
What I’m Doing this Weekend
One of my good friends is coming to town with her family for the Aggie game and it seems this is a tradition! Looks like last time she came was two years ago for the same game! It’s a night game and I’m excited about the cooler weather.
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month
Riley will be home from Arizona and I’m hoping for a little family time. Having all four of my kids together is always my favorite! Any suggestions for a relaxing family of 6 getaway? I’d love to hear it!
Bonus: Favorite Thanksgiving Sidedish
I’m kind of weird and don’t really like traditional side dishes. My Meme’s dressing is my absolute favorite but if I have room for more I will definitely eat this amazing fruit salad which was also her recipe and some broccoli rice casserole!

You are going to love those built ins! We use ours everyday. 🙂
So hoping the choice of paint works out!! I’m a little nervous…not the best at having vision with how it will turn out.
Great post! We are heading to the Scottsdale area for most of the winter next month! I can’t wait, it is so beautiful during the winter months!

Oh I am so jealous Cheryl! Definitely try out Postinos on a Tuesday….a bottle of wine and a bruschetta board for $20….so yummy!
Oh wow! That little nook area off your kitchen is going to be amazing. Love it!
I sure am hoping so Amy! They got it primed yesterday and I’m semi nervous about the paint.
Oh wow! Your new built in is going to be so AWESOME. Can’t wait to see it all painted. I wish I had a spot for something like that. I miss my mud room in our last house. Sigh. You’ve had lots of birthday goodness and fun in October. Time to ramp up for November. Happy Wednesday!
It has been a dream for so long Lisa! I can’t believe how much bigger it has made the space look. I can’t wait for it to be completed.
I just ordered the scarf. You know I’m not a scarf person, so I’m hoping it’s not thick and bulky! I need to be able to take long, deep breaths! Ha!
I think you will be pleasantly surprised Laura! It’s lightweight and I have worn even on a warmer day without dying!
That built in bench/cabinet looks WONDERFUL! I know your family will use it lots, and you’ll be happy to have the clutter controlled. I can’t wait to get our bench/hooks put in. It will be in the hall you enter from the garage and will be a good place to set things down. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
You are going to love that! I wish we had a more hidden space for something like this but I’m hoping this really does make our space a little more functional and gets the chaos out of the kitchen and off the table!
Wow, love the built ins for your kitchen. I know what you mean about kitchen table clutter. Love the camo on you and your plum dress! and since i just got back, I wanted to wish you a Happy birthday!

Seriously….the kitchen clutter is ridiculous! I may be only dreaming but hoping the kids can walk the few extra steps to hang their backpacks up in this space now! haha
Girl I absolutely LOVE the new addition to the kitchen! IT IS AMAZING and I can’t wait to see it all done! Sounds like you have plenty going on and I am so happy you had a fabulous bday! Go Astros! BTHO Dodgers!
I’m a little nervous about the paint….we shall see today! And goodness….that game last night!!!!
Whew! I was rooting hard for the Astro’s but my goodness! Everytime they’d get ahead, LA would come back! UGH! Does Riley get to go watch them in Houston??
No friend….Riley will be in Arizona until November 18th 🙁
Oh my word, those built-ins are gorgeous! I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished!
Thanks Lindsay! I’m a little anxious waiting for the paint but it was primed yesterday so we shall see today!
YES! Your built in area is going to be soooo awesome! Camo CUTIE you are…yes yes yes!! My fav scarf and seeing as you love your leopard hair cuff that I do too and first saw in you, that was an awesome gift from Holly! Have a wonderful Wednesday!
I’m crazy about all these cuffs! They really work well to wear and still be able to work on my computer.
Happy belated birthday! I hope it was a wonderful day. Also your entryway updates look beautiful
Carly at A Modern Mom Blog
Thanks Carly! I’m so excited about this little home project!
Cheers to celebrating your birthday for as long as it takes! I just love coming home to unexpected surprises. I always love reading what everyone’s been up to – one of these days I am going to participate in this, it always seems to sneak up on me.
I am seriously loving the piece you had made and I can’t wait to see the finished product. I wish my house had a mud room right off the garage so we could have a dumping ground for all our stuff. Right now I’m just wishing our kitchen would be done already!
Have a great rest of the week sweet friend!
xo,
Kellyann
I seriously wish I had a bigger laundry/mud room area but hopefully this will be a bandaid that will make it more tolerable! I’m sure I”m only dreaming that the kids are actually going to walk that far to hang their backpacks up. LOL
I love that built in!!! What a great idea! And yes, we’re all about watching the World Series over here, too!
MeetTheShaneyfelts
OMG….that game last night!!!!!
Totally watching the world series too….also that nook area is soooo beautiful!
The game last night!! Holy home runs….it was crazy!
I’m in love with your new built in – can’t wait to see the finished product. I think I’m the only person in the country who didn’t even know it was World Series time! That camo top is adorable on you!
Lol…Lana what kind of baseball mom would I be if I didn’t know? Plus….living so close to Houston it’s really hard not to know when something this big happens to a local team!
I love all of the birthday fun. That project area looks AMAZING! I am just So excited to actually have a bigger mud room at the new house. Our laundry/ mud area now is SO small. It drives me CRAZY! Happy Friday eve!
I wish I had a laundry/mud room Beth! Heck…I just wish I had a laundry room that was big enough for more than just me!! Hoping this is a good solution to make our house a little more user friendly. Happy Thursday friend!
I like broccoli, I like rice but have never had them together…I think I need to try this. Yay for all the kids being home at the same time, the best I can imagine! Love all of your booties, but I say that every time you post about them…wait do you have the same bootie in two colors?
Shut up! Sarah….I’ve got to share my broccoli rice casserole!! Did I mention it’s got cheese too? Girl…it’s a definite must side dish!
Oh..and no…I do not have the same bootie in two colors….all though I wouldn’t be opposed! 🙂
Your entryway space is looking great! Glad to see you had such a great birthday!
Thank you Alison! Happy Friday!
Love the scarf with that top, and I’m so excited for your new remodel project. We dump on the morning room table and the kitchen bar for the same reasons. There is no where in our entry to put stuff.
Fonda I could not be more excited to finally get this project completed! I may be wishful thinking but I’m so hoping the kids are encouraged to dump stuff in this new location.
Loving all your looks! Thanks so much for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday and have a fun Halloween weekend!
OXOX

I love that built in! I love that inspiration too, it’s perfect. There’s always an area of the house that’s the catchall that everyone dumps everything LOL. I can’t wait to see it.
