What’s Up Wednesday + Linkup

·

Holly, Katy and I are so glad you are here!  We hope you will share some of what’s been going on in your world by linking up with Royally Waiting.  I’m also choosing to join Shay and Mel for What’s Up Wednesday because it is seriously one of my favorite linkups every single month!

What We’re Eating

Well, this may have only been one bad night but I definitely have NOT been meal planning the way I should and there have been several big splurges lately.  Sarah mentioned a Whole 30 starting next week and was looking for someone to join the misery fun and I decided I could use the accountability!  If you might be interested in joining us and sharing your journey let me know! Honestly, Whole 30 is really not that tough if you plan well and it really does help you learn a little about how your body truly reacts to food.  Learning to eat for fuel and figuring out how different foods affect your mood and energy level is a win.

What I’m Reminiscing About

All things summer!  I seriously loved catching lighting bugs and running out to the water meter every day to see if there were any frogs inside trying to stay warm.  My mom had a huge bed of ferns in the front yard that was perfect for catching lizards and I loved to grab them and hold onto them until they puffed out their neck.  But I had forgotten about how excited I would get to find locust just after shedding until I found one on my front porch this week!!  I know weirdo deluxe!  I saw him still sitting on top of the shell he had just shed waiting to become strong enough to fly.  I had to hold him for old times sake!

What I’m Loving

Schools out for summer and even though I still have to work having a lighter schedule definitely makes me breath just a little lighter.

What We’ve Been Up To

Fishing in the country!

Fishing at the coast!

Watching this kid play ball!

Car pooling kids around to end of school activities!

What I’m Dreading

Notta!

What I’m Working On

It’s my busy time at work so I’m working on the annual budget as well as our annual capital plan.  Fun stuff!

What I’m Excited About

Oh how I wish I could share!!  Totally excited about a new collaboration and cannot wait to be able to share the news next week with you all!

What I’m Watching/Reading

Y’all, how pathetic is it that I pay for Netflix month after month but have not watched anything since January!!  Seriously, if the family is watching something I may catch bits and pieces but I have not watched a thing in months.  I’m hoping you all share your favorite binges and I might find one I can’t resist.

I loved What Alice Forgot and The Husband’s Secret so much so I was really sad to give Truly Madly Guilty a less than stellar review in March.  Thankfully The Hypnotist’s Love Story was a fun read.  I love that she can throw something out in the middle of the book which I might have seen as the big whammy only to leave me guessing until the very nd.  It was an easy read and perfect for vacation!

What I’m Listening To

Have you heard of Lynda.com?  It is an online library full of all sorts of training.  We have a free subscription through work and once I started looking through it I realized there is a ton on informative tutorials including photography.  I’m definitely listening to a few of these to see if I can pick up some tips!

What I’m Wearing

Love at First Blush||Military Inspired||Casual Crops and Top Knots

I’ve obviously been seen all around town with this black and white tote!  When I tell you I can fit all that and the kitchen sink in this bag and still feel it distributes the weight well enough to not wear out my shoulder I’m not kidding.  It has held up so very well and is super simple to wipe clean.  Plus, don’t you think it adds just the right flare to these four different looks?  Want to earn a bag and create  your own look?  Let me help you earn a bag by hosting a Stella and Dot virtual party!

Walking on Sunshine

Where bags are concerned, I do not have a huge selection but this one is definitely one I’ll keep around for a long while.  I love this embroidered Star Mela clutch and it always makes me feel cheery when I’m carrying it.  Of course snagging these leopard sandals two summers ago on major clearance was one of my best decision.  I loved pulling these outfits together!

What I’m Doing This Weekend

We are heading to Lost Pines Resort just outside of Bastrop, Texas (or Austin for those non locals) for a little summer fun.  Keith actually has a business meeting and we are tagging along because #lazyriver and no worries sounds right up my alley!  We love this getaway because it is a quick drive from home and the grounds are beautiful.

What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month

Trip to San Antonio!  Granted, we will be traveling for baseball but San Antonio is always good for a little sightseeing, Mexican food and margaritas.  The stars aligned somehow and Dillon will start playing on Thursday with Riley arriving Saturday so hopefully we will see both boys play in one trip!

Bonus:  Favorite Vacation Spot

Definitely the coast!  There are so many great places to see but heading to the coast is where I can truly go to relax and enjoy my family.  I shared my faves vacations last week as part of Show & Tell Tuesday – Travelogues!

  1. Yay for our upcoming Whole30 “fun” haha!! I’m glad I finally have someone to hold me accountable! We need to exchange cell numbers so we can text easy recipes and food finds! I’m excited to find out your upcoming collaboration! That’s so exciting! And I totally agreed with you about Truly, Madly, Guilty. I love her but I did not love that book! The Hypnotist’s Love story was good!

  2. Good luck with the Whole30! I can’t wait to follow along and see how it goes for you and Sarah! I was half tempted to join in on the ‘fun’, but I don’t think my mindset is there yet. 🙂

  3. OK, please share how your schedules are lighter! I feel like ours have gotten worse! Maybe it’s because the majority of stuff is during the day and I’m trying to figure out how to get them there! And, can we please plan another coast get away?! I need something fun to wait on! 😉

  4. So many fun things going on with you, Shelly! When are you and Sarah starting your Whole 30? I have gotten off track and feel like I need a reset. Let me know. Also, thanks for sharing about Lyndo.com – I am for sure going to check it out.

  5. I’m totally going to check out Lynda.com! Tired of relying on my students for everything tech related! Have you watched Last Man Standing with Tim Allen? My husband and I watched 2 episodes every night and are almost done with the series- it is hilarious. A friend at school just finished the Whole 30 and loved it. I love sweets too much to give them up. Good luck!

  6. I just love that picture of Carly Jo and the fish – she just looks so darn happy! And I can’t believe you put that bug on you – I will save a snake any day of the week, but a bug? Ew.

  7. I can’t wait to hear about your collaboration!! I have been researching recipes and meal plans for the whole 30 so I may be joining you next week. Is Sarah going to have a support group for us?!

  8. Okay that’s it I’m a city girl through and through, the bugs and the lizard and the fish, I might have internally screamed and really scrolled by really quick on those. I can’t wait for the announcement next week 😉 Woo hoo!

  9. Surprisingly…nothing! I know. I am kind of shocked too. Going to Pismo Beach for 4th of July and I will actually be there for 12 days. I guess that is about it from Cali! Enjoy all the fun stuff you have coming up!

  10. Girl, I’m a biology/science nerd, but I don’t think I’d want a locust on my arm! 😉 Sounds like your summer is off to a great start. I haven’t been to Lost Pines in years and need to plan a staycation over there sometime. I can’t wait to hear your collaboration news!

    1. Haha….I don’t know why I love them so much Tanya! But I also love holding June bugs…weirdo I tell ya! We like Lost Pines okay but after going to the JW in SA last summer I definitely think it has so much more to offer older kids. Plus…it’s not so far out in the boonies that you can’t run to dinner and save a few dollars. The food was so expensive at Lost Pines but you are kind of stuck there.

  11. Hahaha totally love the good beer comment!! I say that all the time!! In college the Bud Lights were like a dollar and I’ll never drink that again because I can afford better!! SO. MUCH. BETTER!!!

  12. I just love these posts. I need to get myself in gear and do it one of these months! My older son is in Austin until Sunday and he said there’s so much to do!
