What’s Up Wednesday (July) + Linkup

·

Happy Wednesday!  I’m joining Shay and Mel for What’s Up Wednesday because it is seriously one of my favorite linkups every single month.

What We’re Eating

Hmm….well let’s see, my kids are at camp this week so I was bound and determined to do as little cooking as possible!  I did manage to plop some chicken in the crockpot this morning with some salsa, taco seasoning and chicken broth so it looks like there will be some chicken tacos for the rest of the week.

Stuffed Bell Peppers - The Queen in BetweenI did share my twist on stuffed bell peppers a few weeks back and it is a lower carb version if you are into that!  If you head on over it was a round up of some of my favorite recipes shared here on the blog.I’ve been trying to eat fairly clean and these are some of my favorites meals.

What I’m Reminiscing About

Every year my kids head off to camp and all week long my Timehop is filled with pictures like these from prior years at camp.  It is tradition to eat lunch at the Gristmill with friends and then walk down to the river for a minute before heading off to T Bar M for drop off.

I mean look at these sweet sisters 7 years ago!  They were so little!

We took this picture of the boys ever single year and it was perfect for showing just how much they grew.  Last year T bar M did some upgrades and we were beside ourselves to find our photo op spot was long gone.  They have grown just a tad since this pic!

What I’m Loving

Skincare Favorites - The Queen in BetweenSummer is tough on my skin but I’m so excited to have these products to help me win the skincare battle.  Micro-dermabrasion paste was one of my first Rodan + Field products and using just a few times a week really helps my skin regenerate and gives me a glow. The newest product, Active Hydration Serum, has really taken my skin to the next level.  I battle a bit with drier skin anyway and have noticed how “crepey” the skin on my neck was looking. Adding this to my regimen as well as using the AMP roller a little more consistently on that are has really improved the skin on my face as well as my neck.  I would love to help you with your skin! What We’ve Been Up To

Volunteering - The Queen in BetweenSummer is one of our favorite times to get out and serve in the community.  Thankful for friends who will drag Carly Jo along while I’m working!  The Queen in BetweenDillon and I spent 5 nights in Dallas and stayed with one of my besties I met in college.  We had some fun at Top Golf and really enjoyed catching up over the week.  Some people come into your life and you never have to question why….Lisa is one of those people for me!  Volunteering - The Queen in BetweenMore serving at one of our favorites.  While I’m on our local foodbank board I had only seen that side of the distribution so working at an actual pantry and helping get the food directly into the hands of those who need it has been a humbling experience.

The Queen in BetweenMonthly date night with my big girl is always one of my favorite nights of the month!  She’s halfway through Whole 30 and I’m so proud of her for being so diligent and sticking to the plan. T bar M Camps - The Queen in BetweenI mean…everyone so hot but happy about heading to camp!

What I’m Dreading

Stinky camp laundry!

What I’m Working On

Deciding what to keep and what to send back from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  This  year I shopped some in store and some online and the first order I placed just finally arrived.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - The Queen in BetweenPeplum Jacket

I do love, love, love this jacket/shirt thingy but it just doesn’t seem to love me!  I’ve now tried it in a medium, a small (pictured in burgundy above) and a petite medium (green above) and I really think the best fit is the petite medium.  Not sure the green, however, is the best color on me and the burgundy is now sold out.  I think it’s a sign it should go back!  If you are a thinner built and don’t have a super short waist like me this is probably a super option but I would definitely say sizing down is the right choice.  I mean even in the petite the sleeves are long enough for me and, y’all, there is nothing petite about me!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - The Queen in BetweenRuffle Blouse|Black Jeans|Booties

One item I really wanted to add this year was a pair of black jeans I felt good in.  I grabbed the Paige jeans with a fun hem in the store but ordered the DL1961 jeans in two sizes online.  I’m thinking the DL1961 are going to be the winning pair as they feel just a little more comfy and they are $40 cheaper.  I am not quite sure about this top.  The color is different from anything I have and I do think it works for me and I love how the sides cut up but I’m just not sold on the sleeves.

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale - The Queen in BetweenIf you read my Friday post then you know I was on the fence about these booties but I have since come to my senses and decided they must stay!  Last year I purchased 2 different pair of Vince Camuto booties and both were super comfortable even with the higher heel.

What I’m Excited About

My 3 year Blogiversary is next week!  I’m hoping to bring you guys a few fun giveaways.

What I’m Watching/Reading

June Book Review - The Queen in Between

See the books I completed with my review in this June Book Review.

Currently Reading - The Queen in BetweenI’m currently reading The Fringe Hours: Making Time for You and Bright Side but not confident I will finish either one by the end of July.  My reading was somewhat hijacked when I became addicted to podcasts this month!  I tried a few self-help type podcasts on productivity and that was a waste of my time because it stressed me completely out.  Listening is not easy for me anyway and especially if I have to have a takeaway!  Oh, but then I found Up and Vanished and I am completely hooked!  So entertaining! Definitely heading for Serial next.

What I’m Wearing

Black on Black - The Queen in BetweenI’ve been on a bit of a black on black kick lately!  I’m loving this ruffle wrap tank.  It is perfect to layer under a jacket for work but dressed up these shorts perfectly for a a girls night out.

Blushing Over Dots & Stripes - The Queen in BetweenCold Shoulder Tie Waist Top(Dot Version)|Heels (similar)|Striped Tote

Love how this outfit came together for work!  Mixing patterns like dots and stripes isn’t out of the question, you just have to find the right balance.  This top (also shown here) is one of my favorite purchases this summer and it is now on super clearance (like $9.95!!) and comes in black as well as a polka dot version.

What I’m Doing This Weekend

Picking my babes up from camp!  I can’t wait to hear all about their week.

What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month

Corpus Christi Hooks Baseball - The Queen in BetweenSeeing my big boy again!  Hopefully we will be heading to Frisco the first weekend in August to watch the Hooks play. We haven’t seen Riley since the end of June and I’m missing him!

Also hoping to take a few days off from work and relax a little but we will see how that goes!

Bonus:  What’s Your Favorite Thing About Summer

Long days and tan line!  Even though I much preferred the tan lines of my youth and not the shorts lines I now have from too many baseball games!

  1. You look AHHHMazing in Pink!!!! I bet the kids had the BEST time at camp and I hope you’ve had a restful week!! Oh how I hope you do see Riley soon. You look so good and young, you could pass for his sister!! Happy Wednesday babe!!

  2. Shelly you and I had the same issue with the peplum jacket. It is cute but just not made for us I guess! I think you made the right decision with the black jeans, it’s great to have a good pair. I love seeing the pictures of your kids and all the great service projects they do! I know you’re enjoying a kid free week and at the same time missing your kids. I’m sure they’ll have wonderful tales to tell!

  3. Look at that super model in her new finds! I hope you are enjoying this week to the fullest since you are sans the kids! Dinners look great, I’ll be right over to eat iwth you! YES tan lines! xo

  4. Oh my goodness how in the heck could you send anything back?! It all looks amazing on you. I am swooning over that first throw back photo too and I SWEAR Marissa had the same exact skirt from Childrens Place when she would have been like 2 or 3. So funny!

  5. I love those booties you decided to keep! I can’t justify wearing them enough since I’m a teacher or I would buy them too! I, also, loved reading the Fringe Hours! There are so many down minutes that we can capitalize on!

    1. Fringe Hours really made me think more about ways to fit in more. I love her points about always being prepared….I love reading but so many times end up surfing social media when waiting somewhere because I have forgotten to pack a book. Also packing thank you notes….I need to be more intentional with writing them instead of just thinking about it.

  6. I have been meaning to ask you what shoes you got, since you got those other pairs that you wear all the time last year, I was thinking I HAVE to get whatever Shelly gets this year too! Every time you wear those other ones I get jealous. A friend just bought the ones that you have and they look so great in person too! decisions, decisions!

  7. I don’t listen to self help podcasts but I do love listening to them when I do my 5-6 mile walks every day at the beach and when I am home!! I love Heather Dubrow and Big Mama and Boo Mama (?) they are HILARIOUS! Have a great rest of your week …I am off to Fresno today to return some of my NSale items that I can live without! LOL

    1. Kim, I found The Happiness Project podcast over the weekend and listened to like 5 while at the grocery store. They are quick. I found I need the ones that don’t talk so rapidly…lol. I finished Up and Vanished and listened to the first 2 episodes of serial last night…hooked.

  8. We make the crockpot chicken tacos as well! I’ve never added broth too it, though! I may have to try that. All of those meals look delicious! Oh Timehop! I have such a love/hate relationship with that app. It’s so bittersweet to look back at those little baby pictures. I love that you guys get out and serve in the summer. I need to do this with Mason! When you were in Dallas you were only about 35-40 minutes from me! I love both of those jackets, but the green is my favorite. And those booties are amazing!!

  9. Your meals look sooooo good. Way to go with the clean eating. I loved seeing what you have been eating because it gave me some great ideas. I love Timehop but it can really tug at my heart strings when I see my babies as babies. I love your NSale picks as well, and those booties! I think I NEED a pair this year. I hope you have a great day!

  10. Mmm. my mom used to make stuffed peppers, they look so good. I am not much of a cook, but we use Blue Apron. Love those black jeans on you and the pink top looks so pretty! I have a pair and have never tried DL. Vince Camuto makes some great shoes, I have a pair of his OTK boots I love. I am sure camp will be interesting to hear about!

  11. It’s my first time on your site but I absolutely enjoyed reading about your favorite things and what you were up to recently! Will be back for more!

    Much love from Napa Valley!

  12. Those booties are so cute! And the stuffed bell peppers look delicious! I think they need to go on our dinner schedule ASAP!

  13. I loved Serial and plant to start Up and Vanished soon!
Keep the olive green jacket. I think it’s one that you can really get a ton of wear out of thanks to the color.

    1. Eek….the last episode of Up and Vanished is out today! I can’t wait to listen. I started Serial last night on my walk and definitely was hooked. I also found a “self-help” one I think I can actually benefit from that was a quick listen and I went through 5 at the grocery store…..The Happiness Project. It was just a help you feel good listen.
