What’s Up Wednesday – May
We did it y’all! Just two days and we have survived the wrath of May! Activities both in and out of school, end of school projects and fun weekends have definitely kept us busy this month! We are ready to sail right into summer mode around here.
Today I’m linking up with Shay, Mel & Sheaffer for this months What’s Up Wednesday! The questions are in pink so check it out and join the fun. Also joining Jessi and Jenn for What’s Hap- “Pinning” Wednesday and the girls at Welcome Wednesday! Plus, be sure to link up your favorite look with The Blended Blog!
What We’re Eating this Week
I’ve been on the major struggle bus with meal planning and somethings got to give! Here’s what I’m planning the rest of the week.
Fish Tacos (with fresh fish we caught!)
Burgers because EASY
And I may just have to pull off a recipe from Cassie Joy’s Paleo Summer BBQ recipes.
What I’m Reminiscing About
Summer’s past! These pictures popped up on my Timehop and I have to say I kind of miss those sweet summers with fewer weekend activities when we were able to gather with cousins and just have some fun. I also miss these two being small enough to enjoy a slip n slide. Also….note to self….get out the big camera and take more pictures of every day life!!
What We’ve Been Up To
Carly Jo and I attended our first mother/daughter tea for National Charity League. We are beginning our first year this month and we are super excited about serving our community together and joining some of our friends.
Carly also wrapped up her first year of competitive dance and I think we finally nailed the false eyelashes and makeup! Super proud of how hard she worked this year and how much she has grown as a dancer.
We spent Mother’s Day in Corpus Christi so I could see my sweet Riley but we also had some fun exploring while we were there! You can check out the full adventure and see all the sites we explored and where we ate. I also shared 10 things motherhood has taught me and spoiler…apologizing is one of them!
I celebrated a 3 year friendaversary with Holly and Katy! Even though Holly and I have been friends much longer, adding Katy to our mix has been a blessing. It’s not always a given you can add a 3rd friend without some conflict but she has fit into our group seamlessly.
Headed to Abilene for a few days to attend Leadership Women Texas and Jordan roadtripped with me! It was so fun to have her all to myself cornered in the car for 4 1/2 hours for some great conversation!
Yesterday I shared the details from our long weekend which included two steppin’ and fish catchin’ with beautiful shots of the sun rising and setting.
What I’m Dreading
Notta.
What I’m Working On
Our summer schedule! I have sheets of paper everywhere but have not made time to sit down and map out our summer schedule. I also need to make time to work with Dillon to map a plan to maximize his time since he will be working this summer and fitting in baseball.
Our housekeeper also graduated from college and now has a real job womp, womp. I’m trying to leave chores each day for the kids so we stay on top of everything and at least for the summer hope to save that money to use towards other activities. Working on creating a weekly chore chart that will be a little easier and if I create something that works for us I’ll share here!
What I’m Excited About
Finishing up the Moms Rock May Style Challenge! I’ve been hosting the Moms Rock May Style Challenge on Instagram and shared the first 1/2 of the looks last week. The prompts have been a great way to wear a few things I’ve been under utilizing as well as finding a few things I really just do not like and was able to purge. So thankful for my sweet blogger friends Deena, Holly, Katy, Kellyann, Lana, Laura, Lisa and Vanessa who have participated all or most of the month and also shared the challenge! It has meant so much.
What I’m Watching/Reading
I only read two books in May; one I loved and one was meh.
This book I loved and could not quit reading! I do think I began to be suspicious and figure out the killer before it was revealed but not too soon to keep me from turning the pages. Definitely some twists and turns and it’s only $4.99 on kindle so I felt it’s definitely a bargain read at that price.
This book took me a bit to get into and even then I felt it was hard to really buy into at some points. I also felt it jumped around alot and almost had too much going on but then all of a sudden the ending came fast and then done. It didn’t quite feel like closure. Anyway, if you love this author let me know because I’d like to maybe consider giving another of her reads a chance.
What I’m Listening To
It’s no secret I’m totally addicted to podcasts! In fact last night I found yet another full of inspiration. Now, if I can take all this inspiration and channel it successfully THAT will be awesome! If you are interested in what my favorites are right now, be sure to read 5 Podcasts I’m Loving!
Jordan and I also listened to Revisionist History which was definitely outside my norm but this podcast really made me think hard!
What I’m Wearing
Here are a few of the most liked looks from the style challenge!
Shop similar Yellow tops | Leopard Heels | Leopard Flats
Second most loved look by my followers and I have to say it may be my number one fave! I really didn’t realize my closet needed yellow so desperately until adding this yellow henley! Seriously may be my most loved purchase this spring. Of course the leopard shoes add a perfect touch too! They are on their 3rd season so I’ve started looking for a replacement and am currently crushing on these heels and these flats.
This look has the top looks for the entire month! I really did love pulling this together and you can see this ruffled henley is on repeat big time! Even though it’s sold out, you can find several styles in this color here.
Fave Spring Wedge | Leopard Clutch | Denim Jacket
This may be my favorite use of an old item in my closet and I showed off this love it or lose it maxi earlier on this month on the blog. By tying a knot in the side it really changed up the look of this maxi. I’m going to be wearing another really old item today for the little black dress prompt so we will see if I can find a way to keep it around too. Of course these wedges have probably been my second favorite purchase this spring and I probably wear them at least 4 days a week. I was honestly shocked at how much attention both this B&W combo and the ebony and ivory look I showed last week have gotten. Evidently my followers really, really like an easy outfit! Starting with an all white or all black base is one of my favorite things to do because it is so stinkin’ easy! Give it a try with all white and then pop on a great sweater or jacket and some fun accessories to complete the look.
What I’m Doing this Weekend
Staying home and hopefully doing some grocery shopping, blog planning (and reading!) and meal planning and probably some time at the office if I want to survive June!
What Else is New
The Gibson X Hi Sugarplum collection! I ordered as quickly as I could and STILL missed out on one of the items I really wanted to try. Have you seen the collection yet? Here are the favorites I’m picking up to try! So stinkin’ excited for Cassie…she has worked her butt off and she is just the sweetest and most authentic.
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month
Summer! No more set schedules or homework! Long weekends doing fun stuff and of course lots and lots of baseball.
Bonus: Favorite Summer Salad
Mine is easy! It’s definitely the strawberry salad I love to throw together: spring mix, feta cheese, sliced strawberries, chopped pecans and the super secret ingredient to give it the perfect zing, Brianna’s poppyseed dressing! I eat this salad ALOT this time of year but just know a little dressing goes a long way.
