What’s Up Wednesday – June 2024
What’s up Wednesday! Today I’m linking up with Shay& Sheaffer. You can find the questions in blue so check it out and join the fun.
Let’s go…..
What We’re Eating
I’ve been interested in learning to make sourdough for awhile and finally had an opportunity to head to a class in March. It took me a bit to get the hang of the timing but it has become a hobby my whole family is excited about! I really wasn’t sure if I would love it but the process of creating a loaf has become a little therapeutic. We have not had to buy a loaf of bread in months and the pizza dough has been a weekly win. I still have a lot to learn but feel like my bread has continued to get better and better.
What I’m Reminiscing About
Timehop is my favorite thing to open every morning even though at times it can bring tears. Today was a happy memory of a special time. Forever proud of this kid for reaching for his dreams even if they didn’t end up exactly as he hoped.
What I’m Loving
Easing into empty nest life. While Carly is still home this summer and technically Dillon is back living at home, there is no running around for activities and definitely less cooking.
What We’ve Been Up To
Carly & I took a little mother/daughter trip to Playa Mujeres and had the best time laying on the beach and relaxing! So glad we had this sweet time together.
Announced our sweet girl is half baked and going to become a momma this fall! We are so excited to welcome our 2nd grand.
We joined 110 thousand of our closest friends and helped King George set an attendance record at Kyle Field. Love these memories with my crew.
Celebrated Father’s Day!
Made sweet memories with this cutie who is currently in her Fancy Nancy era! We don’t go anywhere without dressing up and putting on ALL the accessories!
What I’m Working On
I’ve been trying to get down to my moms and work on cleaning out her house. Last weekend I brought back my grandma’s china and I love seeing it in my cabinet. Cleaning out someone else’s things after living in one house for 50 years has definitely made me want to purge everything in my own house so I am working on that but also on not making impulse purchases.
What I’m Listening To
I needed a new podcast and ran across Betrayal. I listened to Season 3 and have now gone back and started Season 1.
What I’m Watching/Reading
Keith is typically not a guy that likes to watch a series and I am not a huge TV watcher but we decided a few months back to start watching Suits and it stuck. We are currently on Season 7 and even though it is completely cheesy and often unrealistic, we can’t stop watching it.
I shared my midyear book review last week and it held some good reads, many of witch are free on kindle unlimited. I’m currently reading Just for the Summer.
What I’m Wearing
Dressing for summer in Texas is not always the easiest. I need to be dressed somewhat professionally but also stay cool on that walk from the car to the office! This dress is perfect. It is a nice, lightweight fabric with a decent length. I love the pattern and the sleeves. It also comes in black and white if green isn’t your thing. Use code SHELLY15 for a little discount.
I’m also loving this darling new top! The sleeves and the neckline are precious. It is not see through but a little sheer if that is something that bothers you. These jeans were a splurge but I have worn them so much and they always draw compliments. Code SHELLY15 works for the top!
I grabbed this dress at a local boutique and it is no longer available but here is an almost identical option online. The rick rack craze wasn’t on my radar initially but I fell in love with this dress! My sandals have been a favorite since I grabbed them in March and I’m shocked they are still available. They are almost identical to a more expensive brand.
I loved this dress the moment I saw it and knew I wanted it in white but it also comes in a light denim. It is darling alone but the spaghetti straps aren’t exactly work appropriate. I was struggling a little to find a way to wear it to work but ended up finding 3 options (below) that I love all with pieces from my closet. Wearing a top over a dress is one of my favorite hacks and I wore this one (on sale + use SHELLY15) over the dress to work yesteray for a win!
What I’m Doing this Weekend
Carly and I head out for Oklahoma as she will have new student orientation on Monday! I can hardly believe in about 6 weeks we will be moving her to college.
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month
We have a beach house in Port A calling our names! This pic is from our trip in 2020 and that’s the last time I’ve been to the beach with the family. We can hardly wait to share it with Haisley.
That’s alot of what’s up with me…what’s up with you?
I love that Desert Rose pattern. My grandmother had those dishes and I’m not sure where they went when she passed away. I know what you mean about cleaning out the house. I did that with my mom and then my mother-in-law when she downsized. Soo much stuff. The beach will be so fun with a little one along!
Every time I go and am able to toss several bags of trash I’m shocked….I feel like I’ve made a dent and then it just grows! Hoping to have a garage sale soon if only to have someone else haul the stuff off for me. I do love these dishes though…and need to be better about pulling out the nice stuff when we have family dinner.
I really enjoyed your post! We just went to orientation today. Informative but a bit long and thankfully the presidential debate (happening right next to GA tech) actually made traffic faster for us! I hope my son can get his schedule changed as he couldn’t register for some of his choices because AP results are not in yet. Hopefully in a couple weeks! Loving your outfits. Flowing pants and dresses for me. It is hot and humid! My dad give me sourdough starter but I haven’t had a min to pick up rye. Hoping tomorrow so it doesn’t die on me!

Carly opted for the condensed orientation so it wasn’t too bad….but I was a little sad because they cancelled the traditions session and I literally know nothing.
Congratulations on the new grandchild! I was just at my parents and I can relate to all the stuff in a home. I think about this quite often as I walk through my house and realize my daughters probably don’t want a lot of the stuff I have.
Same! I’ve always saved sweet little cards people have written me, etc and even though they are all nice and organized, I’m sure I’m the only one who cares about them although some of those things of my mom’s has given me some peace and comfort at the same time.
That rickrack dress is so pretty! Congrats on the newest grandchild; that’s exciting. We have new student orientation this weekend and we’ve been talking today about dorm room things/needs. It is going to be here before I know it. Your sourdough looks so yummy!
Have fun at student orientation! Where is he going? Carly is still on the waitlist for a dorm if you can believe that…..and they have mandatory live on campus so you would think it would be settled by now lol. I’m just a tad stressed about that!
What a great month! I love all the dresses!
This season has been full of some really sweet times 🙂
Congrats on the new grand baby! So exciting! Also if you need any help with the sourdough text me! I’ve been doing it for about 4 years now, and it’s so fun!
I have been loving it! I haven’t ventured out much with doing additions to the bread so if you have any good combos I’d love to know!
Life sure moves fast. I remember Riley’s signing day too. Excited for Carly Jo to be heading off to OSU and didn’t realize Dillon had moved back in. Don’t you feel like you get one settled and then another comes back for something? Super excited about Jordans new Baby! I am heading to our beach house on Monday for a MONTH and I am SO EXCITED! Tony will be back and forth and he is NOT as excited as I am —HAHA go figure. It’s too hot in the central valley so taking advantage of a month over in Pismo! YAY!
Ahh….the beach house for a month sounds heavenly!
