What’s Up Wednesday (August) + TBB Linkup

It’s the last Wednesday in August, say what?  But for the first month this year I’m like thank goodness this month went so fast!  We have had so many days of 100+ degree heat and little rain to speak of.  Everyone is posting beautiful yards full of lovely flowers and I’m just over here trying to keep my grass from dying!

You know what else is hot?  Sharing a little of our month with What’s up Wednesday! I’m linking up with ShayMel & Sheaffer  and you can find the questions in pink so check it out and join the fun.

What's Up Wednesday

What We’re Eating this Week

Back to school has meant back to meal planning and we are on a roll with two weeks worth of delicious meals cooked at home!  Our diet and our budget needed some fixin’.

Monday – Grilled pork chops, roasted red potatoes and bacon wrapped asparagus

Tuesday – Shrimp Tacos

Wednesday – Wings N More – celebrating a special birthday!

Thursday – Meatloaf

Friday – Steak & Noodles

What I’m Reminiscing About

Daddy's Girl

Tuesday was the 14th anniversary of my dad’s death.  It seems like yesterday and forever all at the same time.  I guess you could say he was a hard man to love unless of course you were his baby girl.  I still feel his presence and see pieces of him in his grandkids. I’m certain he would be proud and amazed by all we have become. Most of all I miss his voice on the phone and his big side hugs with that pat on the rear. No one thought I was prettier than my daddy.

What We’ve Been Up To

We celebrated our 17th anniversary to start off the month and I shared a little about my love for this guy.

Summer Camp #TbarMThese boys had a blast away at TBarM for a week of summer camp.

Long Beach #Vacation #CaliforniaWe headed to Long Beach, California for a few days for baseball but found a way to eat our way through town!

Fresno Grizzlies #baseballmomAnd then we headed up to Fresno and I got to see this boys sweet (albeit hairy) face.  I cannot even believe this was my first time to see him pitch since spring training in March!

Sequoia National Forest #california #vacationWe managed a day trip to see some really, really big trees as we explore Sequoia National Forest.

Back to School 2018 #schooldaysBack to school for these two!  It’s been kind of nice to be back on a schedule.  Of course the one thing you can count on from us is we are consistently inconsistent.  If you need a good laugh you can see how smoothly our first five days back to school went!

Summer ConcertThis girl and I  headed out to see Cody Johnson in concert last weekend and it was such a great night.  I love live music and always wonder why I don’t make time for it more often.  If you don’t listen to this Texas singer you totally should….he’s definitely my kind of country.

What I’m Dreading

Y’all, it’s back to school for Aggies here too and fall also brings Aggie Football.  While I love a fun day at Kyle Field, adding 65,000 students plus another 60,000 fans and it gets a little crazy ’round here!  The first game is this week and just happened to be scheduled for Thursday…and um…when you work on campus and there is a game on campus the same day you get an unexpected day off so I guess all is not lost!

What I’m Working On

A post to celebrate my 4th Blogiversary!  The milestone passed on the 1st of this month but I’m hoping to have a post and a little giveaway ready for tomorrow so you can celebrate with me.

What I’m Excited About

I am super excited about a photography workshop I’m heading to on Sunday afternoon and hoping I pick up some tips.  I used to carry my big camera everywhere and was pretty darn good at capturing some great shots but when you don’t use it you lose it.  Madi is a recent Texas A&M grad but I’m most impressed she was brave enough to take her dream and build a business!  I love a good girl boss story so when she decided to take a next step and host a workshop I jumped all in.  Now, y’all pray for me because it may be me and a bunch of 20 year olds and I’ll be stressing over what to wear.

What I’m Watching/Reading

August Book Review #goodreads #bookreviewYesterday I shared my August book review which included some great reads.

I just downloaded Crazy Rich Asians and have borrowed If You Only Knew from a friend so I’m diving into those next!

What I’m Listening To

Since buying a new car in June, I’ve seriously been listening to my iTunes music often.  It cracks me up how diverse my music collection is!  And sometimes it shocks me when some of the music my bigs downloaded years ago comes on and I realize I was clueless what they were listening to!  #momfail  But I’ve also been listening to Sirius XM; 80’s, 90’s, Prime Country and The Highway during our free trial and trying to decide if I need this in my life.  I want to say no but it’s been such a nice change to not have so much talking.

And podcasts…..well I haven’t been listening as much as I had been for the simple fact I needed some silence in my head!  I typically listen when I’m out walking but found myself in desperate need for silence the past two months.  So now I’ve picked back up and was happy to see The Rise podcast with Rachel Hollis is walking through each chapter of Girl Wash Your Face.  So if you haven’t grabbed the book and are still on the fence, head on over and listen to a few chapters in Rachel’s on voice.  I still recommend the book because holy highlighting it is so good!

What I’m Wearing

August Looks #summerstyleHere is a little peak of what I’ve been wearing to work this month.  Lots of dresses in cooler fabrics, my new heels that have been on repeat, a comfy new pair of wedges and this sweet little top I can see stretching far into fall.

Transitioning to Fall #fallstyleThis cardigan is for sure going to be in my fall rotation as it’s the perfect look and weight for Texas fall.  I’m keeping a hawk eye on these wedges because I’m positive I want to grab a pair for next spring once they go on sale.

And even if you don’t love this outfit, you should totally hop over and read the Love First story I shared.

Stitch Fix June #stitchfixAnd lastly this little top has seen lots of time with white jeans and shorts this summer and it was part of my summer Stitch Fix.  You can hop over and see what else I received plus what I kept and returned.

What I’m Doing this Weekend

It’s Labor Day weekend and that means opening weekend for dove season around here!  I may actually venture out with the boys but I could very well also just stay home and enjoy the quiet.

What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month

Y’all…this precious little baby of mine will be turning 13…THIRTEEN!   My last little baby to pass over into the teen years and we hope to celebrate BIG of course.

What Else is New

Home Inspiration #livingarea #homedecor

Fiddle Fig (similar) | Poof | Mirror

I have wanted a fiddle leaf fig plant for so long but if you noted in the first paragraph I’m doing good to keep grass alive!  When this one popped up on QVC for under $60 I decided I had to take a chance.  I’m way too excited about how this little area turned out in my living room y’all.  Like sit and stare at it for an hour kind of obsessed.  Haha!  I know what I like when I see it but it often takes me a really long time to figure that out on my own!  I need to add some mossy stuff to the bucket but I think it’s looking cute.  This mirror is perfect if you have a more narrow space and I bought one for Jordan’s house too.

And because someone always asks, here is the wallpaper we used in our entry!

Favorite Back to School Tradition

Taking pictures has truly been the one big constant through the years and maybe my tradition is posting the really old ones to just see if my kids actually still follow me on social media.  🙂  God bless Timehop that’s all I have to say!

And there you have it…all that is up with us for August!
