What’s Up Wednesday – 1.26.22
What’s up Wednesday! Today I’m linking up with Shay& Sheaffer. You can find the questions in pink so check it out and join the fun. I’m also linking up with Amy for Style on the Go!
Let’s go…..
What We’re Eating
I’ve been out of town for a few days at a conference so I’m catching up on meal planning! With the colder weather, I’m thinking soups that work for my family but also easily convert for me to a lower carb meal are going to be on the menu. My souper faves have a few that work perfectly like this chicken zoodle soup. I use zoodles along with no yolk egg noodles and it’s amazing.
What I’m Reminiscing About
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I reminisce about my relationship with my mom alot. Alzheimers is a disease that will rob you of all that is good if you let it. When pictures like this pop up it takes me back to a sweeter time before things started changing so drastically. It has been a process the last two years, but I’m finally able to embrace the change and still find pieces of my mom waiting for me if I am patient enough to look. Seeing that this picture was just a short 6 years ago brought me some joy! She use to spend so much time coming to visit us and I really miss that.
What We’ve Been Up To
January is typically a month to catch up with all the things for me and week one I was on fire. Since then, not so much! I feel like I made some major headway on some projects that have been lingering but as soon as I headed back to work we have seemed to have something every single weekend.
We had a playday at the all new Bigshots Golf in Aggieland and I was so excited they invited me to bring 6 people to check out the new facility. We have needed something like this in College Station for some time!
We have also had this girl for multiple playdates and a few overnight stays and I’m here to tell you, the hype of being a grandparent is so real. It is just the best! Everything can wait when we have her and she becomes our entire world! She is so fun right now and talking up a storm.
We celebrated Dillon turning 20 and YES this is the best picture I got. He literally rushed back to town to have dinner with us and then headed back to school the same night for practice the next morning. It’s hard to believe hes TWENTY! Time passes so fast!
And Carly Jo FINALLY got her drivers license! Y’all, I feel like I should get some award as I have now taught 4 children to drive. Goodness! In all honesty, the driving is the easy part. Getting all the paperwork in order is the real challenge for this mom. She turned 16 back in September and we finally felt like we were all ready and she’s off driving herself to school! If I’m being honest, I was in no hurry because those moments in the car together are so priceless and I wasn’t quite ready to let that go.
Keith & I went to a beautiful wedding this past weekend and the venue was GORGEOUS! All the details that went into this wedding deserve their own blog post really but would that be weird since it wasn’t a wedding for my family member?? Ha! The funniest thing that happened was some lady who was sitting at our table ended up hitting on Keith later in the night after she had one too many. Yellowstone has kind of made the hat a thing and he’s been getting more attention than he wants! Ha!
Here is just a quick look at the chapel for this venue! Those acrylic chairs and all the flowers were just so beautiful. Boxwood Manor is in the Houston area so if you are nearby and have a wedding in your future you should check it out.
What I’m Working On
Updating our guest bedroom to be a cozy space for guests when I need it but to function as an “office” the rest of the time. I worked with a local carpenter who has installed a murphy bed for me which is going to have a mirror on the bottom to utilize that space. It will look similar to the pic below. I struggle with spacial situations and often just cannot see the finished room so I have also contacted a local interior designer to try to help me pull this all together. Hopefully by spring I can show off this new space!
What I’m Excited About
Roadtrips! I have two in my near future and I can hardly wait! Keith and I are headed to Panama City Beach in Florida for a long weekend and decided to drive wtih all the craziness of flghts being cancelled lately. Dillon is playing in a baseball tourney so we are using it as a good excuse for a vacation.
In March, I’m hoping to take Carly Jo to visit some colleges she is interested in and we may be flying part of the way and then driving to multiple colleges. I haven’t mapped it out just yet!
What I’m Watching/Reading
I shared my January Book Review yesterday and it’s a big deal for me to have already read 4 books! Nothing for some of you but huge for me! My friend Stephanie, The Bookish Boy Mom on Instagram, clued me in that as a Texas resident I was eligible for a library card through the Houston library and I’m super excited. I feel so wasteful buying books for my kindle but at the same time was too impatient to wait for my holds at the local library. I only waited a day for the book I was looking for at the Houston Library. If you love books give Stephanie a follow because she shares reviews almost daily.
The Lies that Bind was recommended by Stephanie and currently loaded on my kindle. My friend Tanya also shares her book reviews (she has a new one today) and I grab alot for my reading list from her as well.
What I’m Listening To
I LOVE the Enneagram! It’s much more than a personality test and has helped me understand myself and my reactions as well as those of others and give me so much insight to make my relationships stronger. Ian has a new book out and I was so excited to listen to him read the first chapter on his latest podcast episode.
I started listening to this podcast the weekend before the MLK holiday and have learned alot about history but it has also been interesting hearing the research behind whether or not the right person was charged with MLK’s murder. So far I’m only about half way in but it’s been worth a listen. The author also has a series like this on JFK.
What I’m Wearing
We finally have winter in Texas so it’s been all about layering and cozy sweaters! I grabbed these two from Loft during a recent sale and they have been on major repeat.
This sweater has been perfect for layering with my denim shirt or wearing alone under a jacket. It is fully stocked and I would say it runs a little large. I’m wearing a medium and it’s defintely got plenty of room for a shirt underneath.
This sweater is back in stock and now 60% off. Seriously, I’ve worn it nonstop! It’s so cozy and works with jeans or leggings. And THESE BOOTS were a major splurge for me but I’ve also worn them so much. I’ve watched them for months and have not seen them marked down yet.
We went to a beautiful wedding last weekend and I, as usual, procrastinated on something to wear so it was Amazon fashion to the rescue! I grabbed this velvet dress that was perfectly stretchy and had a flattering fit. I will say the sleeves are really long even on me and I have long arms. I am wearing a large but think I might have been able to swing the medium in this dress. I did wear spanx for some extra smoothing! When Riley got married in 2020, I found my dress on clearance for $70 but splurged on my shoes. I’m determined to get my money out of them eventually and they are pefect for a wedding!
What I’m Doing this Weekend
I will be in full Honey mode this weekend! Riley and Taylor have a wedding out of town and Miss Haisley Grace is coming to stay with Honey and Papa K. We will be exhausted when Sunday comes but so full of joy because this girl brings all the sunshine! Looking for some fun little activities we can do together.
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month
February is BUSY! We are going to kick off the month with a road trip to Florida to watch baseball. Carly also starts dance competition season and has two competitions in February. Add on top that we start the budget process at work and I’m going to be a really busy girl! Can’t wait to see Dillon and Carly in action though!
That’s alot of what I’m up to….what’s up with you?
