Let’s go…..
What We’re Eating
We have been eating all the comfort foods to get through the (hopefully) last little cold snap of the year! I shared my souper faves that always work in a pinch and all work so well for leftovers.
We have been doing alot of dining out too as I still haven’t made a grocery run since our winter storm. This was a meal I had on Sunday at a restaurant in Houston we had never been to before, Hungrys. The kabobs werer delicious!
What I’m Reminiscing About
I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’ve been rerminiscing about life before the pandemic. As we are closing in on the one year mark, I’m longing for life without masks and gathering with friends.
What We’ve Been Up To
February was definitely full of lazy weekends more than normal. We managed to have some fun with a little selfie day at a local photo installation, Instaland to kick off the month.
We were able to take Miss Haisley to visit her Nana in Wharton before her daddy had to pack up and leave for spring training. His girls area already missing him tons!
We spent an unexpected week at home after a winter storm brought snow and ice for a chilly Texas freeze. It was only five days but seriously felt like forever. We are still trying to get back into some sort of routine.
I was able to spend an entire day babysitting Miss Haisley and just can’t get enough of her. She is mobile and very interested in EVERYTHING that is now in reach. These sweet eyes remind me so much of her daddy when he was little! I keep thinking she can’t get any cuter….and then she does!
What I’m Working On
I have been working with a contractor to finalize plans to have our kitchen floors redone but am also having them redesign our pantry. While it’s a nice size it just isn’t as functional as I feel it could be. We will have a third side of shelves up top and I will be painting all the shelving and walls white but this is the concept. I am excited about having some electrical installed with the counter space to hopefully use the toaster in this space! Can’t wait to show some before and afters of our space.
What I’m Excited About
My mom received her first dose of the Covid vaccine and just one more week until she will receive the 2nd dose!
On February 9th I gave blood during a local drive and they are automatically performing the COVID-19 antibody test. I was so happy to see I tested positive for antibodies!
What I’m Watching/Reading
We had HBO for a month because I had been dying to watch The Undoing and it did not disappoint! I loved it but hesitate to share all my thoughts because I don’t want to spoil it!
My friend Andrea also suggested Palmer, starring Justin Timberlake, on Apple TV+ and it was also a good watch.
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine has been on my reading list forever so when I received an Amazon email offerring $5 off the download I jumped on it. I’m turning pages like crazy and can’t wait to see how it ends!
What I’m Listening To
My podcasts listens are fairly routine but I especially loved episode 166 of The Next Right Thing: How to Cope with Disappointment and Jen Hatmakers interview with Lorie Gottlieb (loved listening to her book Maybe You Should Talk to Someone) as they discussed Rewriting the Stories we Tell Ourselves.
What I’m Wearing
The month of February has been all about using my closet and it’s been fun pulling together some looks with items I already have, many of which of been literally just hanging around. I’ve tossed a few things but mostly remembered how much fun it is to pull looks together. It has also helped me realize what was missing so I did add a few new items too but was very selective!
This baseball mom look was seriously one of my favorites! This flannel shirt from American Eagle is at least 4 years old but it is so soft, pearl snap and the colors are now perfect for Rice baseball! Layering is definitely a must this time of year and I love how the stripes + plaid came together but the denim jacket on top gave me all the feels!
Black on black is always a favorite go to when I’m not really feeling motivated to get dressed. I realized this month I really didn’t have a great, lightweight black sweater. My fave cashmere sweaters are currently on sale so I grabbed one in black. I topped with a puffer jacket and gray boots from my winter stitch fix and found a belt from who even knows how long ago to pull it all together!
My closet also was lacking any white denim and we can’t have that can we? I have tried about 8 different pair over the last month but was just not feelign any of them. When I saw this pair on sale I decided to give them a shot and I’m definitely keeping them! They are no longer on sale at Nordstrom but if you are a Madewell insider they are 20% off. I also added the cashmere sweater in gray!
What I’m Doing this Weekend
I am heading to my hometown to take my mom to a memorial for one of her friends who passed away this last month. It will be somber but a chance for her to reconnect in a safe environment outdoors with some of her best high school friends.
What I’m Looking Forward to Next Month
Weekends away! Granted, it will only be to Houston but we will be staying in actual hotels for dance and baseball weekends and I’m kind of just looking forward to the change. Who knows, I might even get a wild hair and fly off to West Palm Beach for a little spring training!
