The Queen’s Chronicles – Summer Camp
Happy Friday friends! Only one favorite from me today because I’m so behind on catching up with our lives and definitely did not want to miss one of my kids very favorite parts of summer. We are heading out again today for a weekend getaway in Frisco and I’m so excited.
Beware camp picture overload ahead! Every summer my kids head off to camp for a week and every year it ends up being their favorite. I love they are able to go and completely disconnect from all the social pressures of the world and just be loved on by amazing counselors. This year was no exception and they both were very tired but super chatty and ready to tell us all about the week.
Camp has theme nights each year and this year there was a circus theme night. Carly Jo wanted to be an elephant so thankfully between she and her daddy they were able to pull together a costume. Be sure to check out the full look in the camp pics below!
My kids attend T Bar M which is split between two locations. First through sixth in New Braunfels, Texas and seventh through eleventh at Camp Travis in the Austin area. Traditionally we meet at the Gristmill in Gruene lunch with our besties before dropoff. If you have never been this little town should be on your Texas roadtrip map!
These two have grown up so much since the first time they came to camp!
But they are still just little boys at heart in these grown up bodies! Definitely have the sorority pose down.
We always take a quick walk down to the river and chunk in a few rocks or at least that’s what the kids think we go for! Moms just think it’s a great place for a few lovely pictures.
Camp is split between a location in New Braunfels for 1st-6th graders and the 7th-11th graders head to another camp about an hour away on Lake Travis outside of Austin. Thankfully for us there is a shuttle between the two on drop off day. One last family picture before we separate for a week!
I love these kids and their relationship! Even though there is no blood relation they are family.
For the first year the girls were not side by side but no worries from Carly Jo, she was super excited to be bunking with the 6th grade girls.
The kids separate each day with a coach for Batter’s Box where they have their bible study and at the end of the week the coach picks a few words and verses to describe them. Carly Jo’s words this year were insightful and dependable. Did I mention her coach was also an Aggie so we will hopefully get to know her a little more here in College Station!
Dillon’s words were leadership and selflessness. He ended up with 2 Aggies for counselors which is always fun and they started off with a funny story about when they first saw Colby and Dillon. All 3 counselors were a little more vertically challenged and referred to our boys as the twin towers! Ha!
I think the pictures speak for themselves! Summer camp is a highlight around here and my kids come home refreshed, renewed and very, very tired and stinky. We love summer camp!
So what were mom and dad doing while the kids were away? We both had to work, womp, womp. BUT….we did manage to have some laughs with friends and I only cooked once. I snuck away Friday afternoon and headed to Austin to meet up with Keith.
Holly had raved about a hotel in one of our favorite areas, The Archer, and it did not disappoint! The decor was so fun and VERY Austin. Did I mention it was right next door to Nordstrom?! I did skip over and make returns but did not waste my time shopping on this beautiful day. I headed back and skipped right out to the pool.
I will note the pool is more of an adult lounge around pool. Kids are welcome of course but it is super small. Happy hour was from 4-7 and let me suggest having the Green River drink while you are there. Yum! I also wore my new suit for the first time and loved it.
Keith finally joined me after he was done delivering tractors all over the Austin area! We cleaned up and headed to find some dinner. Taverna was just around the corner and we decided it was worth a shot. I’ve eaten there before for brunch on my mom’s getaway and it was amazing.
I had the special of bacon wrapped scallops over risotto and it was amazing! The one thing I loved was the food was so rich and delicious but they didn’t give you a huge portion.
We skipped down to another bar and had a few drinks before turning in for the night! Love this guy and his dimples so much! Another guest agreed to take our picture and I was dying because she was like “now do a silly picture” and I’m all like…umm….we don’t do silly well. Haha!
Wishing you all a super weekend!

I so wish I had sent my girls to sleep away camp when they were young! I look forward to seeing all of yours and Holly’s camp pictures every summer! Have a fabulous weekend away in Frisco, my friend!! XOXO
What an awesome week for your kids!!! Shelly, you make some beautiful children. They both have the most gorgeous, sincere smiles, but what stands out to me the most is how your son just radiates joy. Most boys his age aren’t so cooperative when it comes to pictures. Good job mama. Carly Jo’s elephant costume turned out so cute. Have a great weekend. (PS. loved your first LiketoKnowit post👍🏼)
Oh my goodness, the boys doing the sorority pose cracked me up. My littlest brother and my cousin who are both 24 used to always pose like that to mock me and my other girl cousin. We have so many pictures of them goofing off like that. So funny! I hope you have a great weekend!
I love the camp pictures! Your kids will have so many fun memories of camp when they get older. And I love that y’all got to go on a mini getaway! Happy Anniversary, too!!

Looks like the kids and parents had a blast! Hope y’all enjoy your weekend!
What a great week! The camp captured so many great shots of the kids! When Jack was at Pine Cove, I wondered if he was really there because he was hardly in any pictures. I guess he was hiding from the camera! The time in Austin looks like such a great break for y’all! Have a good weekend. And the sorority pose made me LOL!
Yay camp! My daughter went to camp for the first time this summer and she’s in love. She asked if she can go to two camps next year. I am glad you guys enjoyed your time sans kids too! xo
I love all the pictures, what a wonderful experience for your kids! And really what fun!!! Glad you and Keith were able to have some fun too. Blessings all around, enjoy your weekend!

I have never thought of sending my kids away to camp for a week, but it looks like such a rewarding experience and so many great photos. I am sure it is nice to have some bonding time with the hubs while they’re away, too!

The pictures totally speak for themselves. It looks like they had and AMAZING time. I need to send my girls off to camp in a few years ;).
Oh my goodness what a fantastic week for your kids! They really did a good job taking pictures, whoever that was! I love it. And can I saw all of your clothes you were wearing are so pretty! That flamingo shirt, send it my way please!
I just adore your framily!
Camp is the absolute best! Why can’t the camp hangover last a little bit longer?!!
