The Queen’s Chronicles – Spring Break 2022

Spring Break 2022

Spring Break was all about this gal right here this year. While Carly Jo is just finishing up her sophomore year, she is already thinking about where she might want to go to college. She has grown up in Aggieland but is really feeling the pull to go away to school so we decided to go take a look at a few colleges on her short list.

We flew into Atlanta and spent two nights there eating some really yummy food at South City Kitchen (fried green tomatoes to die for) and Pasta da Pulcinella near our hotel in Midtown. We stayed at the Moxy which is a Marriot brand and has a cool little vibe but I could have researched it just a little better. You literally check in at the bar on the first floor and receive a drink upon arrival. We had a good laugh over it.

Although the University of Georgia is not technically on her list, since we were so close we took Sunday to drive out and walk around. It has lots of similarities to Aggieland and even had a train track that divides campus into east and west. It was the last day of spring break so campus was fairly empty but we enjoyed walking around and seeing all the old buildings. The amount of merchandise in the bookstore was really impressive!

We headed back to Atlanta and spent the afternoon at the Georgia Aquarium which is huge! There are whale sharks and baluga whales and some of the largest and most colorful starfish I’ve ever seen.

Monday and Tuesday we spent in Auburn and had a tour of the business school. We loved the campus and they were in class so the campus was hopping. One of Dillon’s high school friends is a sophomore at Auburn and she was sweet enough to have dinner with us and answer all of Carly’s questions about school, sports events, sororities and church.

As is typical on Spring Break, there was a day full of rain! We made the most of it by running in and out of several boutiques and heading to watch The Batman. Carly thought it was great and it was entertaining but I’m still stuck on batman in the 90s and his cool toys.

On our last day we headed to visit the University of Alabama. Unfortunately they were also on spring break and the campus pretty much shuts down apparently. As an employee at A&M, I’d say they could take a note on this! Ha! So many stores and restaurants in town were also shut town for spring break so it was hard to get a good feel. The campus is beautiful and well maintained and the sorority houses were insane!

The best part of the trip for me was just being with this sweet girl of mine. She broke her iphone the first night we were there so I literally had her undistracted the entire trip. Not having a jam packed agenda on vacation is REALLY hard for me but I just kept reminding myself of the memories we were making and the laughs we were having that made it all worth it.

We still have more college visits in the future but for now Auburn still remains at the top of her list! Letting this last little bird fly is full of feelings but she amazes me every day and I can’t wait too watch her continue to grow!
