The Queen’s Chronicles – Moms Weekend

Weekend Getaway
So last weekend these lovelies and I celebrated the end of the first week of school by ditching our kids and heading for a mom free weekend!  Our plan was to have some deep blogger discussions but what really happened was a lot of sleeping in, reading, lounging and just having fun being “free”. Bonus….we now need ANOTHER meet up to discuss blogging!
Katy snapped this picture as we loaded up!  Please note….we did NOT use our big camera on this trip so you will have to suffer through the poor picture quality.
We arrived in Austin near this fun mural and had to stop for a quick photo op!
Visiting Austin, Texas
I was able to snag a state rate at the JW Marriott downtown and it was perfect.  The room was amazing and upon arrival we requested an extra bath robe, ice and wine glasses and our wish was granted so promptly!
We could not have been more excited when Holly actually pulled out party favors!!  Isn’t this little note adorable.
 She’s seriously the best!
After lounging around and finishing a bottle of wine we finally decided to head out for dinner.  We seriously brought 17 pairs of shoes between the 3 of us and packed enough clothes to stay a week!  I typically love eating non chain local restaurants but Gloria’s is one of my faves. We actually ordered the PlantainFrito as our appetizer and while it isn’t exactly beautiful on the plate it is so delicious!  We were back at the hotel and in bed by 10!!  It was perfect.
Saturday morning we headed for brunch!  It was a beautiful morning and I literally searched “bottomless mimosas” in downtown Austin and found Taverna.
The mimosas weren’t bottomless but were only $1.84 each and we decided it was worth a shot!
We shared the Beignets and I highly recommend the Taverna Beef Hash…so damn good!

We decided to walk off our brunch around Lady Bird Lake.  So many fun options; paddle boarding, kayaking, biking but we decided a brisk walk was perfect.

We couldn’t just walk right by this little sign and not stop in to take a look!  Surprisingly, however, not one of us purchased a thing on this getaway!
After some reading and maybe a little napping, we headed down to the pool.  Now, this would not be a pool I would bring my family to.  It is rectangular and narrow and really just a glorified hot tub.  Lots of bachelor and bachelorette parties and lots of drinking.  We had so much fun just doing some people watching while imbibing just a bit ourselves.
It was seriously all we could do to actually shower and dress up Saturday night but we cleaned up fairly nicely I would say!
We dined at The Corner which is in the JW and snagged an outdoor table so we could do more people watching.  These pork nachos were delicious and we shared since we really had just eaten chips and hot sauce at the pool a few hours earlier.
We headed down towards the capital for a quick photo op before turning in for the night.
Y’all….don’t you want to be our friend?  I mean look at this hot mess!  We just needed one adorable robe picture but it took us forever to get it right!!
The JW was super accommodating with a 12:30 checkout and Katy found this cute little cafe near the Four Seasons, Forthright.
This is what is meant by Brunch So Hard!  Oh my gracious this food was so amazing.
Such a beautiful ending with beautiful friends.
I’m typically the kind of girl that likes to go, go go but this was the perfect getaway.  We literally had no agenda.  All that was required for a successful weekend away was a few fun loving friends to celebrate the silence with!  We all came back feeling so much lighter (although maybe just our minds) and ready to face the week and school year ahead.
This will definitely be a new tradition!

  2. I just soaked up our weekend all over again! It was the perfect weekend with the perfect friends! I can't wait for our next trip!

  3. Oh my goodness! How sweet! I can't believe you remembered the struggle. I am happy to report that things are going much better for him and of course for us because he is happier. What a trying time, though!

  4. What a perfect weekend. I cannot believe you three packed 17 pairs of shoes total. How many did you pack. Love the outfits you guys wore on the first night. Your knotted top and that striped romper are so cute. I also love your floral romper and the white peplum blouse your friend has. Your friend's note and goody bag was so neat. And girl mimosas for less than 2 bucks. In Michigan a coke or Pepsi usually costs about 3 bucks in a restaurant lol.
