The Queen’s Chronicles – Easter Weekend
Wow, last week began with a quick little weekend recap and at that moment I had zero intention of shutting things down here on the blog for a week. Life, life happens sometimes doesn’t it?
Spring for us has been busy with a few kinks we weren’t expecting and we are making it all work but seem to be physically and emotionally exhausted. As I mentioned last week, Keith’s dad had significant damage on his property, including his home, from a tornado. My sweet husband was leaving at 4:30 each morning for his regular job and then spending the evenings doing cleanup at his dads. On Tuesday I took the afternoon off to try and help and drug Carly Jo with me.
If you follow my insta-stories then you know we didn’t get much work done! Instead, Carly Jo and I sat out in the pasture making sure buzzards didn’t swoop down on a newborn baby calf. I’ll spare you all the details but after several hours the sweet little guy just wasn’t getting up and the momma cow finally gave up on him.
As you can imagine, Carly Jo was upset and my momma heart just couldn’t stand it. We covered him with a blanket and tried really hard to get him to suck a bottle. Finally he started to try and get up on his own and next thing we knew he was standing and then taking a few steps. So what do you do?
Well, if you are crazy like me you load that baby in the back of your Nissan Armada and bring it home. Thankfully I had enough sense to know I have zero knowledge of how to take care of a calf and we are lucky to be in a town with an amazing vet school. Instead of a family vacation this year, we saved a calf. (half kidding!)
Today Rocky (he’s a fighter y’all) is ready to bust out of the hospital and I’m trying to make some plans. I’m praying I make the right one for all of us and really praying that Carly Jo will understand if I don’t make the one she’s hoping for. She really, really wants to care for this baby on her own.
So….on to Easter weekend!
After a super long week there was no better way to end Friday than with a “snack” supper. I was seriously amazed by how excited my family was about this tray. Like, honestly, this may be the first time in a month that we all sat down around the table and ate together.
I needed a little structure to guide me on Saturday! Happy to say every single one of these things was checked off AND I even cleaned my makeup brushes!! Here’s the thing with me and lists; I love to write things down but often I love writing down my list at the end of the day when I’ve already completed the things. Ha!
We invited our besties over for burgers and egg decorating. While I mixed up some messy food coloring, my friend Holly brought the Egg-mazing decorator and EVERYONE got in on the fun. If you can grab one of these on clearance it is so worth it! Easy, and no mess and look how fun the eggs are. Search at Bed, Bath & Beyond but also local Hallmark stores.
Easter Sunday I was a happy momma having these kids together. I may never get used to missing Riley at Easter but baseball has kept us apart for the past seven years.
I made my annual trip to Lowes to spend a bunch of money on plants which will likely last about two weeks! I tried extra hard and even bought some miracle grow so we will see if I can keep some color on our porch!
Keith grilled and we sat on the porch for hours listening to music and just enjoying our Sunday. I was feeling so thankful to have this guy by my side.
So far Monday started with a bang….literally at 5:30 am between two of our vehicles in our very own driveway. I had one ticked off husband but it really does always put things into perspective. Tangible things can always be repaired or replaced but it’s the people in our life that make getting up every day worth it!
Hope you all have a super sweet week as we close out the last full week of April!
