The Queen’s Chronicles – All Together

We gathered over the weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving with my side of the family and it was the first time in a really long time all the grandkids were able to make it. I always regret later when I don’t pull out my big camera because no matter how good Iphones have become, I’m always disappointed after handing off the camera to others. Regardless, here are a few pictures to document The Queen’s Chronicles and our family all together!

When you have someone in your life diagnosed with Alzheimers, every gathering becomes that much more important as you never know when the last one will be that you will be remembered. It’s a harsh reality to absorb but for now, my mom still knows all of her grandkids and also still has sweet memories of them. She cannot quit saying “she has the sweetest little face” every. time she looks at Haisley and while she knows she belongs to Riley, she can’t quite remember her name.

Haisley does have the sweetest little face, though, and everyone loves looking at her! She loved picking up the acorns in my brothers yard and she is just so much fun right now. She was very unsure about the spaces between the concrete pads in my brother’s backyard and was constantly hollering “help me” which sounds so darn cute in her sweet little voice.

Of course there was also food and I made my Meme’s dressing and broccoli rice casserole along with pumpkin pie. We are not big turkey people and decided this year we wouldn’t force it and ordered barbeque from our favorite spot instead. It was a huge win! My charcuterie turkey needed a little help but I had limited resources in my little hometown so I endured the jokes from my family. ha!

No one really tells you to be prepared for when your kids grow up and you don’t have holidays on the actual day. I’m trying to adjust and remind myself it’s the gathering that is important and not the actual day. Still, it’s an adjustment and just another rememinder of how quickly time is passing. I’m so thankful for another year together and that is what I’m taking forward with me into Thanksgiving week!
