Sweet 16
For those of you who are new around here, as well as those of you who {thankfully} come back every day to see what I’m up to, I thought it would be fun to start 2016 with a little introduction and a few fun facts about me!
One
My name is Shelly and I am a 46 year old mom of 4 working outside the home as a Senior Financial Analyst. I have two “bigs” and two “littles” and they are pretty much my proudest accomplishments! My hubby of 14 years still thinks I’m his dream girl which makes me giddy.
Two
I love blogging! This is my fun, creative space and it has become an outlet for my thoughts, a diary of our family happenings and a place for me to share one of my favorite things…my closet! I love “meeting” new people and following others who inspire me.
Three
At first glance you might think I’ve got it all together, but a closer look will tell you I fail often but praise Jesus for his grace! My younger self was still ruled by my type A personality and things were much more rigid and sometimes not nearly as joyful in my daily life. Learning to let go of the little things has been a huge key to finding my joy!
Four
Mexican food….it’s my favorite. I could eat chips & salsa every..single..day and have been known to pretty much make anything into a taco.
Five
I don’t really get the heebie jeebiez about much but crossing bridges over water really freaks me out!
Six
I have a tatoo on my hip which I have never regretted. It is a quarter sun with a face and a wave is reaching out in front. There may have been a few times when in a crouched position my tattoo has peeped out (in the privacy of home of course) and my two boys think it’s hilarious to say “look the sun and moon are out at the same time”. They are all mine!
Seven
I always, always make a wish if I look at a digital clock and it reads 11:11..always. This will forever remind me of one of my high school besties, Lorri, and I know she still does the exact same.
Eight
Not to sound too vain, but I love watching myself in the mirror. Like not necessarily to admire myself but I love seeing what my expressions look like when I’m talking or fussing or eating. True story, my grandfather had a large buffet mirror moved to another room because I would watch myself the entire time we were at Sunday dinner.
Nine
Any of my friends (and some acquaintances) will tell you I use the word hooker much too loosely but always with love.
Ten
Smoking is something I use to do a lot (and loved alot) and every once in awhile I will still partake. I’m glad I quit when they were like $1.50/pack…holy heck that’s like 3 pairs of shoes a month I would have to give up at the price these days.
Eleven
Truth be told my fear is something will happen to me on a day when my house is a complete wreck! You know, the fridge is full of week old leftovers and stuff the kids have spilled, panties on the floor, dirty dishes in the sink, 5 loads of unfolded laundry and that’s the day your mom shows up unannounced right? (for real that just happened today!) When the ebola scare was going on I was not the least bit worried about contracting ebola but all I could think about was how they took over those peoples houses and oh my gosh they had already been sick so I’m sure they hadn’t been picking up!! The thought made me cringe.
Twelve
Listening is not my strong suit. I try really, really hard to listen to others and it is something I have really tried to do better but truly I love hearing myself talk.
Thirteen
I am the queen of offering unsolicited advice in the grocery store, doctors office, at work and I love it. I am always giving people tips and product reviews they could give a rats ass about! But ask me directly for some advice about a specific topic and I will freeze up like a clam and fake an illness.
Fourteen
I have a love/hate relationship with fitness. I absolutely love pretty much any type of physical activity and it gives me a necessary high to deal with stress and anxiety but I hate making time for it! If I have something more appealing come up I will almost always drop my workout so having friends to work out with is a must.
Fifteen
Spreadsheets excite me!! I will put pretty much put anything into a spreadsheet even weekly fashion challenges. The possibilities are endless.
Sixteen
I have no regrets but sometimes wish I could be the me I am today and go back to my twenties for just a bit. I think about that girl and there is so much she missed out on! I’m not even sure I would be friends with her if I met her today. Thank goodness for all the days and years of “in betweens” bringing me to where I am now; blessed to be me and have the people I love loving me back!
I would love to know….is there anything you have been dying to ask? I may just make this a fun little series throughout 2016.
Show some love and check out the more than 16 bloggers I link up with each week here!
I would love a post on how you manage your day/time between work, family, fitness, time for yourself, etc. Like a day in the life post… I am always looking for ways to improve in this area!
I stay at home and one would think I would be organized and on top of my game….not so much! You do it all girl and make it look so easy!
I'm still cracking up about the mirror! Looking forward to making lots of memories in 2016, hooker!
DYING over here – you and Emmy need to go to HobLob together because she stands in that mirror aisle for 15 minutes every single time. Love you, hooker!
Okay, first of all, I want that cupcake, Hooker, like right now! IT's my birthday month remember?! You at LEAST owe me a cupcake! On the Mexican number, you forgot to mention the margaritas! Very important! The comments your sons make about your tattoo nearly had me snorting Diet Coke up my nose! The mirror thingy and the cigarettes surprised me. I don't smoke, but I've tried before, and when the girls and I get together, someone always brings a pack of "cigs." I have to keep the "stash" for the next time! And the thing with spreadsheets? Nobody understands that shit but accounting nerds like us!
Your awesome!! I follow you on IG and love all your fashion pics! you are so put together and fun! and I can totally relate to the bridge fear……we went to Vicksburg and the coast of Mississippi for spring break last year I thought my 10 year old wanted to go for the history………NOPE he got a kick out of seeing me freak-out over all those dang bridges!! I have a tattoo also and my daughter tries to wipe it off the few times she has seen it!!
I love you girl…that is all
Ohhhhh…..I love that aisle so much!
I promise sweet friend….I do NOT do it all I just fake it really well. Hope you are having a good week!
Oh Kristin….I did a post like this in November and I have to say I really suck at time management!! I try so hard to stay on track but thankfully I'm blessed with super independent kids which helps so much. I will totally work on it and try a spring day in the life soon!! Thanks for commenting.
Susan you just made my day! I don't know why I'm so freaked out about the bridges but I am pretty sure I hold my breath while I'm crossing!
For real friend…..I was always in heaven at the Dry Bean. 🙂
It's great getting to know you better through this post! I thought I was the only crazy one that made a wish every time I see 11:11 on a digital clock. lol
I love it Penny! So fun to find others who do the same so I don't feel like it's a crazy thing. Has a great weekend!
So nice to read more about you! 🙂 Lovely way to start of the new year, 16 things for 2016! 🙂
Away From The Blue Blog
Thanks so much for stopping by Mica!
Great post! As usual love the honesty! Mirror Mirror on the wall who is the fairest………awww hooker you know the rest!!!!
Girl….I almost spit my coffee!! 🙂
Ok, so glad I read this. I'm 44. I love blogging and it's like a personal diary as well. I love Mexican food and…you are the first person to know this, but…I say a prayer anytime I see the clock at 12:34. When I read #7, I was like okay I'm not crazy. Don't know why I do it or for how long. Or what made me start, but I do. Wow! Your post made me smile. ~Lowanda
Isn't it crazy how we all have our little quirks?! I really love my 11:11 habit…it really make some remember a dear friend who has had some struggles the past few years and reminds me to check on her and pray for her. Hope you are having a great week!
I'm a little late on commenting on this post. January was a crazy busy month for this accountant, and I'm finally getting caught up on my favorite blogs. I seriously think we could be BFF's after reading this LOL. Mexican food…check. Spreadsheets….check. Don't listen to others well….check. I seriously spit out my drink when reading about "hooker" Guilty here. I have one friend that I call hooker and she responds back slut. I enjoyed reading this post 🙂
Soul sisters! I somehow have missed all this time that you are an accountant!!! I love it.
