Say Yes – The Queen’s Chronicles

·

This last weekend I almost said no. I tried all week to convince Carly Jo to do something other than the one thing she had been asking to do to celebrate her birthday. I didn’t want to “give up” a free Saturday to drive out of town with a car full of girls. But….I said yes.

Would you believe that Saturday morning as I headed to the back patio bright and early for a little quiet time, the words staring back at me on the 100 Days to Brave devotional for Day 54 were Say Yes!! God is so sneaky! Side note, I saw this devotional is free with Kindle Unlimited or only $1.99 without right now….great deal!

It changed my heart to read those words and I knew that I needed to look for my opportunity to not only pour into these 4 girls if I got the chance, but to also let them fill my heart with their joy. It was a really, really good day!

I tell people often, if you want to know what I was like as a teen, Carly is a spitting image. The biggest difference is she is growing up in a stable home with parents who are (questionably) healthy. Sometimes I feel like I push a little too hard with her when she has an off day because I don’t want to see her lose her confidence, spunk or overall joy for herself and others. I know all those things that will come her way in time but I hope she will always be grounded enough to find her way back to who she really is instead of taking 30 years like her mom did!

All that to be said, these girls are so fun! I loved being a fly on the wall and listening to their chats about all the things but I equally loved when they pulled me into their conversations. While I tried not to overinsert myself (if you know me this takes so much restraint), I did look for opportunities to speak a little truth to them.

So what did we do? We headed to Brenham, Texas and the girls road go karts and bumper boats, played laser tag and putt putt and were silly alot at Horseshoe Junction. Then we headed up the road just a bit to The Kenney Store which I have been wanting to try forever. The food was amazing and I can only imagine how fun this place is when there is live music playing! The last picture was a remake of a picture of some old men we saw on the wall inside in case it seems out of place.

It was a good day and I’m so glad I didn’t miss it!
