Royally Waiting (Link-Up #17)

Welcome to the Royally Waiting link-up where Holly, Katy and I invite you to share what your waiting on this week!

Eating

My lunches this week will be this yummy avocado bacon chicken salad in lettuce wraps!  I’m loving our healthy eating challenge group.  It really is so surprising to me how just having a little accountability helps me so much.  Can I cheat and not show everything I’m eating?  Of course I can…but that is only cheating myself!  It was definitely time for me to turn over a new leaf, might as well be a lettuce leaf right?  I am feeling so much better and much less bloated and seriously haven’t felt like I’m missing out on a thing.

Feeling

I’m feeling much better but ended up with a summer cold this week and could not sleep well.  I finally stayed home from work on Tuesday and literally just rested all day and vegged on TV and it seems to have done the trick.  I’ve also been a tad overwhelmed but trying so hard to focus on getting through this week so I can spend some quality time at my house over the weekend!  It’s amazing to me how quickly things can become quite the clutter bucket when we are living out of a suitcase 3 straight weeks in a row.  Ever since spring break I’ve been slowly piling more and more things into our garage in anticipation of a garage sale and I really, really need to make some progress digging through and sorting.

Watching

So like I said I vegged all day for the first time in forever and started watching the Parenthood series on Netflix.  I watched the first couple of seasons (I think) live but I’m still laughing and tearing up at every episode.

Listening

I know I’m not alone with this whole midlife feeling of looking for my purpose in life or wanting to do something bigger.  My issue is always just wondering what the heck is it I’m really suppose to be doing.  I love my job and having a career has been such a financial blessing but as I near retirement age I can’t help but wonder what I could do next!  This week I happened to be scrolling through our church website to look for the last few weeks of a series we missed on staying in love and I came across another from last year that I know we didn’t complete.  It is Five Essentials for Growth and if you are looking for a great series to inspire, motivate, make you question and think harder, take a listen.  I’m only on week 2 but it was definitely timely for me.

Searching

Vacations to take with our family of 6 over the Thanksgiving holidays.  I really need some place I can not go over board on planning sightseeing but also a little activity to keep us all busy. I’ve been considering Arizona but not sure if it’s already too cold to hike by that time.  If you guys have suggestions I’m definitely interested in hearing!  The beach or the mountains are also on the table but more than likely we will be staying in the US.

Celebrating

Our sweet Dutch Buddy turned 3 on Tuesday and sadly there was no “Paws-atively” Perfect party this year.  Carly was with her Mimi all day and had she not mentioned it at 9:45 it may have been forgotten.  Don’t worry, you can see in this little clip he still got a treat…..not that it is different than any other day.  I just love him so much!

Loving

Y’all, the hibiscus plants I purchased in APRIL are still alive!   Not only alive but thriving!  Look at the blooms and al the buds covering this plant!!  They are just gorgeous and all the rain we have had in Texas lately has really kept them flourishing.  If you are looking for something to tolerate the heat I would recommend one of these!

Waiting

For the weekend….oh wait that is suppose to be working for the weekend right?  I seriously cannot wait to stay up late on Friday night and wakeup in my own bed on Saturday morning!

That’s all I got this week friends!  What are you waiting on this week?  Link up and share what is going on in your life!

  1. I’m loving our group, too, and getting so many good ideas from there! I would have never have thought of breakfast tacos! Glad you’re feeling better and yay for being home for a weekend! Traveling is fun but also exhausting!

  2. Glad to hear you are feeling better now! Your hibiscus plant is gorgeous! I’ve been wanting one, but since it needs to be inside over the winter I am worried I will kill it! Enjoy those gorgeous flowers!

    1. We will see how that sucker fairs when things really heat up around here Laura! It doesn’t get cold enough around here to kill them off as long as they are moved close to the house…we will see how long I can manage to keep them alive.

  3. A summer cold? noooo and booo! Hope you get back to 100% asap. That lunch looks absolutely right up my ally – yum! Also, what’s parenthood about? (or is it obvious?) everyone loves it and I’m thinking of starting it!

  4. Summer colds are the worst. I am glad you are feeling better now. Your food has looked so yummy. I have loved following along with the challenge. Your hibiscus looks so pretty. This may be a little early, but enjoy your weekend at home!

  5. That salad looks delicious! I will try it myself. I can’t think of any vacation for a large family, as I have a small family. I do know camping always works best for us.

  6. Hope you start feeling better soon, Shelly. I looked up that chicken salad yesterday and it sounds like a winner I need to try soon. I have never watched Parenthood, so I think I will add it to the list. Five Essentials for Growth sounds good, too. Also loving our healthy eating group and the accountability it brings!

  7. Your chicken salad looks so yummy. Katie and I were just talking yesterday about making some. The avocado is a great idea for creaminess. I am loving Butter lettuce for wrapping all sorts of things in. I’m so glad you don’t feel deprived, but honestly I could really go for a big ol’ brownie.😂😜 Have y’all traveled to San Francisco? The weather is kind of the same year round there and lots to do and see for a get away. (we live east of the city so if you are interested let me know and I’ll share some things we’ve done.)

    1. Haha….I probably would love a brownie! An old trainer told me once…you don’t need that chocolate chip cookie…you already know what it tastes like (hence the problem right?) and if you eat it you will just end up wearing it. Blah…I definitely will never give up “all the things” forever but I definitely want to try and save my favorite treats for times I can really enjoy them. I have not been to SF….and really am thinking about taking my mom and my older daughter on a girls trip to SF and Napa.

      1. Made chicken salad with avocado yesterday. Loved it!! Threw in some Granny Smith apple for sweetness and celery. I used a couple T of plain greek yogurt, but I’m going to try to leave that out next time.

  8. I just binge watched Parenthood last year and it may be my favorite series of all time. I miss the Braverman family….

  9. Parenthood is my favorite series of all time! I’ve had a summer cold too, yucky! I’m with you on the midlife thing sista, we will prosper! Happy Birthday to Dutch Buddy!! Now, if I could please have some of that chicken salad today for lunch!!

  10. I’ve been considering buying some hibiscus to put out by the pool- you may have me sold on that now! I read an article about a family who travels during the holidays to just be their little unit and to keep the season drama-free. I’m really liking your idea! My neighbors started going to Lake Charles to stay at L’auberge during Christmas, and they said it is really nice!

    1. I would much rather vacation in the summer Allie but with Riley playing baseball Thanksgiving is really the only time we have. From Thanksgiving to New Years is Keith’s busiest time. It’s just so, so important to me to try and get my little family unit some time together. L’auberge is very nice…had some friends stay next door at the Golden Nugget recently and said it’s even nicer.

  11. The Carolinas are beautiful in November. I don’t have a place to recommend but can say that in November it’s the most gorgeous with a ton of Fall foliage.

    1. I seriously just want to stay in bed and binge watch! I need a good rainy day. It’s absolutely not too late….it has been great for accountability. Let me know and I’ll add you to the group…I think we are FB official aren’t we?

  12. Well, I’m in Singapore right now, and I’ll be flying to Malaysia tomorrow to see my parents so that’s basically what I’m waiting for 🙂 racing towards actually xo

  13. I am waiting for the next week and half to go by so I can head to the beach house for 2 weeks! WOO HOO!
