Polka Dot Pattern Play

A great polka dot pattern can be so much fun!  Tell me though, am I the only one who knows how to spell polka but actually still pronounces it po-ka?

I purchased this skirt three years ago from White House Black Market complete with the black shell and jacket.  For most of those three years I wore it EXACTLY like this and ONLY like this.  It’s definitely work attractive and work appropriate but honestly how many times could I wear it and still love it.

I picked up this great Halogen sweater a few weeks back and paired it with a plaid shirt before deciding what I really wanted to add on bottom.  When I saw this skirt just hanging there needing a little new life I decided to take a chance.  This sweater is so incredibly cozy without being too warm.

Y’all, I am absolutely in love with this look!  I cannot tell you how many times I would have passed on pairing a color other than maybe red with this skirt but oh how I was missing out!  The blue just brought it to life and the pattern mixing with the plaid makes it fun.

Last week as part of a little Instagram style challenge I was looking for a pin worthy outfit to copy and ran across this outfit by J’s Everyday Fashion.  Stripes & Polka Dots….together?
Work Style
Yep, you can actually pull this off!  Making sure the patterns compliment each other instead of battle for attention was key.  The dots and the stripes are both small but having a black base for the top pair with the white background for the dots on bottom was a perfect combo.

I grabbed some jewelry with a blue accent and thought it added just the right touch.

One more layer for a cool Texas morning and I think I have a new combo that will continue to make this skirt one of my favorites!
Here are a few of my favorite items I’ve seen recently.
And just in case you are ready to start thinking about warmer weather, these shorts are precious and they are my fave J. Crew Factory!   I will have to live vicariously through you all because at last count I had 24 pair of shorts!
Have you tried pairing polka dots with other fun patterns?  What are your tips for making it work?
