My Skincare Tips – More Than a Sales Pitch
Let’s start with my skin profile. Y’all, I never had to deal with acne. Sure, there was the occasional zit here and there in my teens, during pregnancy and as my hormones have become so out of balance but for the most part it’s ben a non issue for me. That’s been my blessing!
At the same time it has also been a curse. Guess who also has this same skin? My sweet mom which means no one taught me the importance of removing my makeup at the end of every day. It wasn’t until I was in my 30’s and really started noticing the dullness of my skin that I even begin considering washing my face each day. I also had never really used any sort of moisturizing cream which is crazy because my skin is super dry.
Guess what else began showing up in my 30’s with rapid speed? Fine lines and age spots! While there is no way to stop this aging process, I was definitely interested in slowing it down a bit so I began researching the best way to take care of my skin. Here are the tips I’ve found to provide the best results.
One | Wash Yo Face! Yes, even when you are so tired at the end of the day or even if you had one too many glasses of wine at girls night out, wash your face! Giving your skin a chance to breath overnight is a really big deal. Investing in a Clarisonic also made a huge difference for me. In using my toner after washing my face with and without the Clarisonic it is really clear how much | cleaner my skin is from the look of the cotton ball. I switched to using Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser for removing eye makeup and I’m still using the original jar I purchased last July! If you struggle with washing your face the same way I do I would suggest also keeping some makeup removing wipes on your nightstand at the very minimum for those nights you just want to fall into bed.
Two | Drink all the water! This is where I want you to do as I say not as I do because I struggle with this every single day. I will promise you, however, if you are not drinking half your body weight in water daily and you make a commitment to do so, you will see a difference in your skin within 7 days. I seriously see a much less hallow look, especially under my eyes, when I commit to this. Our skin needs water to stay supple.
Three | Use Vitamin C! If you decide to use anything faithfully I would urge you to add a vitamin C serum to your skincare. This is the one thing I have been using the longest and it really does make a huge difference in brightening skin to create a healthy glow but also helps to even out skin tone.
Four | Exfoliate at least once a week. If you are not taking the time to exfoliate to remove the dead skin cells, all the skincare in the world could be a waste. Removing the layers of dead skin allows the natural skin renewal process to work well any products you use have a better chance to do their job. I have used the Rodan + Fields Micro-Dermabrasion paste for years, even before I started using the skincare, and it is still my favorite. The jar is pricey but I will tell you it typically last me 8 months to a year and that is totally worth it to me. My face wash also has a milder exfoliant which I use daily but I typically use the micro-dermabrasion paste 2-3 times per week as well.
Five | Be consistent! Whether you are using a dove soap bar and over the counter products or investing in higher end skincare, the real key is being consistent. I have chosen Rodan + Fields because I’ve found it works for me but my mom has never used anything but OTC products and a little prescription retinol. Whatever you choose to use, give it a good 2 weeks at a minimum of consistent use before deciding if you are seeing results. I would say 30 days would be more reasonable.
Bonus | And you all know this! WEAR SUNSCREEN! Even if you think you are not even going to be in the sun just put it on. If I could go back and change one thing it would be this. The spots I have on my face are a daily reminder of the damage I’ve caused my skin which could have been prevented.
Here are the products I use and love!
