My Advice – Blogtember #30

Okay friends, it is finally September 30th and the last day of the Blog-tember Challenge hosted by Bailey Jean.   I missed posting 7 prompts but only missed posting 3 days the entire month!  Total record for me since I started this little journey.  I have to say it was a super fun challenge and I learned a little more about what my favorite topics really are to post on. Figuring out I have a really long way to go to learn about vlogging was a big shocker!!  Maybe soon I will have a video for you guys worthy of posting but until then the Blog-tember challenge was my favorite this month!

So what is the last prompt for the challenge?  Picture this, you’ve been stopped on the street by the photographer of Humans of New York, and he asks, “What advice would you give to a large group of people?” Share a picture of yourself along with the advice.

Hmm…..I’ve got this one!

The biggest piece of advice I have is don’t let your mistakes define you! No one is perfect in this life and mistakes are meant to be opportunities for growth.  I often wonder how differently my life would have been had I realized I had a choice to change my path.  Instead I listened to the lies of others as well as satan himself and believed there was no way out.  I opted to continue to let my mistakes build one on top of another for years because how could I possibly ever be “right” again after all the terrible mistakes I had made.
I would definitely tell a group mistakes make you better!  If you choose to face your fears and shut out the lies you can change your life.  Surround yourself with people who support you and believe in you and who cheer you on along the way.   You are not a sum of your mistakes!
Do you have a piece of advice you would give to a group?

  1. Great advice Shelly! I would definitely have to say my advice is to be kind to everyone. The Golden Rule still applies, treat others the way you want to be treated. Have a great weekend!

  2. What I have told my kids since they were small girls:

You don't need to blow out someones candle to make yours burn brighter!

Words to live by….have a fabulous weekend! xo

  3. Great advice Shelly! Love the picture too. I love that song, "Younger Me", I think all of us wish we could go back and tell our younger selves some little tidbit we learned later on that would have saved us a lot of heartache, but God has a plan and sometimes that includes our struggles and mistakes.

  4. It really is true Sarah. So many times I've had to shift my attitude with a bad cashier or waitress from being annoyed to being a little more understanding of what the person might be dealing with. A smile really is the best medicine sometimes.

  5. Kudos for blogging almost every day! I could tell you stretched your creative writing, and enjoyed all your posts! Great advice that is so hard to follow – mistakes can be overwhelming if you let them "get" to you. Enjoy your weekend!

  6. Agree 100%. I probably need to reread this post daily, because even though I agree 100% there I times I will get hung up on the mistakes from the past.

  7. Awesome advice, and I couldn't agree more. Even though my mistakes seemed horrible at the time, I am so thankful for the lessons I've learned while enduring them…or possibly AFTER I endured them…DURING really sucked!
This blog challenge was fun, and you did great! Hope you're having a great weekend!

  8. Girl…so many times…usually when I start comparing my life to someone elses..I can start dwelling on my mistakes. When I really think about it though, I am in a much better place now than ever in my life and that is only true because of those mistakes.

  9. Oh my goodness Lauren!! I just heard that song two days ago and now I just keep hearing it. I LOVE it!! So good. The biggest thing for me is realizing at some point that God did NOT give up on me!! I owe him the best of myself for that alone. 🙂
