My 2022 Book Review – Top Reads
In 2021 I read 26 books and thus set my goal to do the same in 2022. A suprise to myself, I actually managed to read 42 books! What changed in 2022? Well, for one, as is obvious in this blog space, I’ve taken a huge step back on social media. There have been a lot of feelings in 2022 and I needed to be able to process those more privately and with more intention. That being said, big feelings meant I needed alot of time to escape and settle my head. Reading was that for me in 2022.
The other big change in 2022 was finding out that as a Texas resident I could reserve e-books through the Houston Public Library. This was a game changer for me as I always felt like I was wasting money buying books I knew I would only read once. It was also a motivator to know I only had those books on loan for 14 days!
Where fiction reads are concerend, as I looked back over all of the books I read in 2022, the ones I immediately remembered the story line and how it touched me came out on top. These are my top 10 favorites of 2022.
One Night on the Island stands out as it was one of my last reads of the year and it told the story of a woman who took some chances on life and love and found herself along the way. Book Lovers was such a cute love story that would make a perfect Hallmark movie and Ugly Love had me ugly crying.
To me, Every Summer After was the perfect summer love read. The Unsinkable Greta James will inspire you to remember why you love what you were once passionate about and remind you how important sharing our heart with our family is.
Pack Up the Moon tore at my heart strings and I cried so hard as the wife dies which was not even a spoiler becuase you know from the start of the book what happens. If you have ever had the honor of being with someone as they slip away you will be rocked. We Begin at the End tore at my heart as well as it is so full to tragedy and trauma. Just when you think life could not get any worse for the poor main character she is dealt another blow.
Well Behaved Wives was probably the most surprising favorite as this was free as a prime read one month. I loved the courage these women showed and the way they all ended up coming together.
Sally Hepworth is a favorite of mine for the twists her books reveal and The Good Sister was no different. You will adore Fern and be cheering for her the entire book. Jodi Picoult is another favorite becuase of the buired twists but I wasn’t sure how I would end up liking Wish You Were Here due to the fact it was set around the beginning of the pandemic. The twist blew my mind and I think this book mostly stuck with me becuase reading about the beginning of the pandemic after we lived through all the shutdowns of 2020 still almost feels like a dream.
Of the fiction books I read in 2022, these 3 were my favorites. Bob Goff truly just needs no explanation. He is full of encouragement and inspiration in every one of his books I’ve read to date. Undistracted was no exception.
Mallory Ervin is vulnerable and authentic and shares a piece of her story I never knew in Living Fully. There is no earth shattering wisdom but so many nuggets to help remind you to live your life more fully.
I’m ready to host a bible study on Finding the Hero in Your Husband. This is an older book the author has updated and it is such a great marriage book. As a woman raised by a strong mom who told me all my life I didn’t need a man for anything, it’s always been a struggle for me to embrace some of my roles as a wife. This book shows women how strong we really are and what that really looks like in our role as a wife.
Now it’s time to look forward to 2023 and start building my list of must read books! Tell me, what do I need to add to my list this year?
