Montana – Glacier National Park Day 3

Recapping our trip to Glacier National Park in Montana has been so hard because we loved it so much I want to give you every detail! Trying to decide which pictures to share was tough. I shared days 1 & 2 the first week we returned but am just getting around to day 3 which we again spent in Glacier National Park hiking some beautiful trails.

We got a much earlier start on day 3 and headed into the park while it was still dark. The Going to the Sun road is no joke during the day and navigating it in the dark is a teeny bit nerve wracking but oh once the sun began to rise the payoff was amazing! I’m not sure I have ever been in the mountains like this for a sunrise and I practically gasp at each turn as we wound our way up on the winding road.

This picture of the sun reflecting off the mountain truly took my breath away. This picture doesn’t come close to showing how vibrant it really was. If videos are your thing, then definitely check out the Montana highlight over on my Instagram as I feel like the videos do a better job at capturing just how amazing this park is.

We stopped again to view the sun rising over St. Marys Lake. All these pit stops delayed us just long enough to come upon a ton of cars parked on the side of the road with cameras out. I cannot even tell you guys how giddy I was and how my heart was racing when I saw what they were looking at! This grizzly bear stood up and I could hardly contain myself. Then momma bear came out just to make sure we knew she was there and not to be messing with her baby! It was so cool.

Montana Day 3

We parked at Sun Point to hike along St. Mary’s Lake to view Baring Falls, St. Mary’s Falls and Virginia Falls. Roundtrip this hike was 6.9 miles but you are rewarded all along the way with beautiful views so it does not feel strenuous in the least.

After only 6.9 miles of hiking (the first day of hiking we logged 13), we decided we needed to find another hike to do. With no cell service in the park, we just picked a trail and headed in. Well, the Siyeh Pass trail is labeled as strenuous. Sure, it starts off simple enough as viewed above but as we turned a corner the trail shot almost straight up. We laughed later but at the time we just kept pushing forward thinking it would eventually level out. Ha! 3 miles in and we were done. The best part, at least the entire way down it was literally all down hill!

We did get to see some amazing views of some pretty spectacular glaciers and waterfalls. I can only imagine how lovely the meadows through this area are when all the wildflowers are in bloom.

Day 3 was definitely a highlight and the falls are a must see for anyone traveling to Glacier National Park. Hopefully I will be back later this week to round up our trip with Day 4 & 5. We just treasured this trip so much! The fact that my man posed for so many pictures without one bit of grumbling should tell you we were feeling so relaxed and remembering why we love each other! Hard to not feel full of life and love in this park!
