Montana – Day 4 & 5
Today I’m wrapping up our trip to Montana with days 4 & 5 of our trip. This really was an amazing trip for us and I’m so happy to get to share it with you! If you need to catch up, you can find days 1 & 2 here and day 3 here. As I’ve said in my other posts, pictures just cannot do enough to capture the views. I do have some video which gives a little better feel saved in a Montana highlight on Instagram.
We knew we wanted to plan a “rest” day to take a break from hiking and my man loves to fish so Whitefish Lake it was. The charter we booked with Dusty through State of Mind Fishing Charters was a great match for us. We headed out first thing in the morning and spent the first half of our day on the water.
This was much different fishing than we typically do, the water was 75-100 foot deep. That did not stop us from catching quite a few fish and that’s my kind of fishing trip. Like Keith says about me, I don’t really like fishing I like catching.
After taking the rest of the afternoon to rest and be lazy, we cleaned up and headed out for dinnerr at Abruzzos Itailian restaurant. The food was amazing and I loved the atmosphere here.
Our last day for hiking and we headed over to the east side of Glacier National Park to what is known as Many Glacier. It was actually a 3 hour drive from our air bnb but the views are so amazing you hardly notice. We did see momma bear again and stopped to watch her eating some berries which was cool and then we spotted a black bear walking up the side of a mountain on our way into Many Glacier.
There is a much bigger hike we were interested in that would have taken us passed two lakes and then ultimately to Grinnel Lake Overllook but this day they were still working a recovery mission in the park and parts of that trail were closed. We settled instead on hiking to Iceberg Lake and it did not disappoint.
The air was still a little smoky and it got worse as the day wore on but stilll lovely views. It was amazing how loud the waterfalls were when they were miles away from us at some points. We also met two couples early on and ended up visiting and hiking with them the entire way which was fun.
Again, pictures just cannot capture how spectacular it finally was to walk around the corner at the top and spot the lake. The water is just so blue! One of the guys we met even took a dive into the cold water. It was a perfect hike to end our trip with but we both decided if we headed back to Glacier National Park again, we would spend more time in this part of the park. While there were alot of people milling around, it was alot less busy than the first two days of hikes.
After making it back to town and getting cleaned up, we headed out for dinner. The wait times in restaurants were crazy if you didn’t make it out early but we found Jersey Boys Pizzeria and it was so good. Then we headed over to Caseys to have a drink on the rooftop and watch the sunset. It was a perfect way to end our day.
On our last morning we grabbbed breafast at the Buffalo Cafe which as you can see was delicious! We walked through town to pick up a few souvenirs before heading to the Kalispell airport to fly back home.
We LOVED Montana! I could see my self “summering” here in retirement for sure! The scenery is beautiful and there is just so, so much to do that we didn’t even make a small dent. I definitely think we will have this on our list to return to one day. The only thing on my list that I didn’t get to see was a moose!
Thanks for following along! What should we add next on our travel bucket list?
Those fish you caught! Wow! The lake and views are amazing!
