Moms Rock May Style Challenge – Wrapup
The month of May was a fun one for my closet as I hosted the Moms Rock May Style Challenge on Instagram and used prompts daily to pull together outfits. Sometimes getting dressed is easy and other times I change four times before I find the right combo so having some prompts definitely helped narrow down the madness. Style challenges on IG are also what pulled me out of my comfort zone and taught me about pattern mixing and color combos I would not have considered prior to.
Today I’m sharing my outfits from the second half of the month! I seriously enjoyed pulling together outfits and loved even more seeing my friends and other followers join the fun and add their look to #momsrockmaystyle. You can view days 1-15 of the challenge here while today I will jump in at day 16.

Day 16 -Feeling like an angel in blue jeans even though by mid May the only thing I was pulling together was my daily outfits. Whew, it was a crazy, busy time for us in May! I grabbed these cropped jeans at the beginning of spring and have loved the fit and the fun cuff. My top is an oldie from Loft but this style top is one of my favorites to add to my closet because it works so well dressed up under a jacket or with a skirt but works equally as well with jeans or shorts. And of course you guys are already well versed on my fave new wedges!

Day 17 – Baby Blue! This skirt is so one of my favorites from last summer. I love pairing it with navy gingham but was actually super pleased with the way this little chambray top worked as well. These new earrings from Stella & Dot made and appearance multiple times in the challenge!

Day 18 – Gone Green! So this is the only piece of true green I have in my closet as I evidently love olive green most. This top is by Escapada which is a brand carried at a local boutique. The fabrics are lightweight and always come in a fun, colorful pattern. I’m 99.9% positive I didn’t follow the instructions and shrunk this top, so as much as I love the pattern and colors I’m thinking it’s time to say goodbye because it’s a little short. White jeans though, not sure how I lived without having a pair in my closet!

Day 19 – My Adidas! For real these shoes have been amazing. This spring I’ve really been focusing on getting myself “well” physically and part of that has included logging 10K steps more days than not. These shoes are like walking on air!
Day 20 – Dress You Up! – I headed to Abilene, Texas for a women’s leadership conference and dressed up my jeans with one of my favorite tops of all time. This cold shoulder is so cute and flows just perfectly! While I also have it in black, this pink always, always draws comments. Here are those wedges again…maybe I should count how many outfits in May included these shoes!

Day 21 – We Bleed Maroon around here in Aggieland. Definitely a true statement and I’m always looking for easy ways to pull this color into my work wardrobe. Last fall this little dress was included in my fall Stitch Fix box and I knew it was a keeper. This color typically makes me think of fall but adding some lighter accessories transitions it to spring/summer easily.

Day 22 – Ebony and Ivory. Come on now, how many of you read that and then sang the rest of the line from the song? I do it every single time! Nothing is easier if you are in a rut than putting together and all white or all black base and building from there. My fave flats definitely complete this look perfectly and they are really on their very last leg foot! I kept the rest of the outfit pretty basic and all neutral and received way more feedback on this look than I expected. Evidently people really love a good black and white combo. Day 23 – Blue Ain’t Your Color! Say it isn’t so? While I can actually wear most shades of blue, if it’s not really your color it doesn’t mean you cannot still grab it! By pairing with a piece in a color that is one of your favorites it’s super easy to create a fun, pulled together look that flatters your coloring. This skirt is from last year but an almost identical one is still available and comes in a red stripe as well and, y’all, it has pockets! In fact, so many cute skirts and I’ve added those and some of my other faves from the J Crew & Factory sale under the shop tab.
Day 24 – Leather & Lace! Two summers ago I grabbed this skirt from the Nordstrom anniversary sale and it’s so unique and beautiful but I struggled with what to pair it with. This challenge had me thinking outside the box and I love how it looked with this lovely wine colored top which has gone unworn in my closet far too long. I paired with a white faux leather jacket which I have a love/hate relationship with! While I love a great pair of white jeans, me and white on top are often a disaster waiting to happen and this day I evidently was enthralled in my bowl of spaghetti and splattered it all over the collar. Insert eye roll!

Day 25 – Barefoot Blue Jean Night! Well, here in Texas it is already so steamy there is no way a night at the lake will include a pair of blue jeans. I did dress up my denim shorts a bit with this kimono and headed out for a fun night of dancing to some live music at the lake.

Day 26 – Cheap Sunglasses! If you don’t love ZZ Top I’m so sorry. I’m a HUGE fan and pretty much enjoy driving fast to just about any song they sing. I also have lived my entire life buying cheap sunglasses because I’m irresponsible! These Ray Bans, however, made it a little over a year before receiving their first knick and I have to say they really did make a difference for me. I’m pretty sure ever since Top Gun came out I’ve been wearing aviators and they really are the best fit for my face. Day 27 – My T-shirt! This song is one of my favorites! So is a perfectly soft t-shirt and a fishing trip with my boys. This day my t-shirt was definitely covered with lots of ick but my memories are beautiful.
Day 28 – Indigo. Wow, I didn’t realize this would be the one day I had the biggest struggle picking an outfit! Indigo is definitely not a big color in my closet so this little dress had to do. Every time I wear this dress I receive so many comments on the pattern and colors and also remember how darn comfortable it is. I snagged it from Target last fall and it is a brand, Spenser Jeremy, I had never heard of but I’ve been impressed with the quality and fit.

Day 29 – Whiter Shade of Pale! So more than once this month I’ve chosen a song from my younger days which I loved for one reason or another. You know what? I think back in the day when we couldn’t look up the actual lyrics to a song was a blessing! I was cracking up at some of the dark and inappropriate underlying messages in so many of these songs from back in the day. This dress, however, is full of light and is appropriate for just about any occasion.
Day 30 – Little Black Dress! Who doesn’t need one? My favorite LBD was finally tossed last summer after the pit stains were so bad I could no longer justify hiding them (full on honesty here!). During one of the Loft sales this spring I grabbed this dress to try and it is just so cute! An A-Style dress is definitely my favorite and the detail fit around the top made this one super flattering. I don’t even need to show the full outfit for you to know which shoes I’m wearing right?

Day 31 – Touch of Gray. This one almost stumped me! I have some gray but it is typically reserved for the fall and winter months. Then I remember this little skirt which has been hanging around for quite a few years. Why have I never thought to pair it with some color? I think I will try it with a hot pink top next.
