Meet Shelly

The Queen in Between blog is a place to chronicle the life of a busy wife and mom often caught up in all the in betweens of life.  A Texas girl at heart, I often find myself caught between longing for adventure and a desire for a slower paced life.  Setting aside the past and dreaming of the future while being content here in between has taken some time to learn but has helped me stay more centered and find joy in the every day.

When I started this blog I was very much right in between raising little kids and mentoring young adults.  All four have grown up way too fast!  Regardless, many days I still feel pulled in between my full time job as a Financial Analyst and my role as a wife and mom.  All the while juggling my own dreams and often feeling guilty about it.  Currently I’m very much between the end of a career I’ve had for 30+ years and deciding what I really want to be when I grow up!

As a midlife woman you will often find me somewhere in between stuffing my face with Mexican food and striving to take care of my body on both the inside and outside.  At this stage in life, nothing is off limits, but I’ve also learned that not everything is good for me all the time.  Being able to continue having an active lifestyle and feel my best is important to me.

You will find me sharing my sense of style which will definitely be somewhere in between trendy and classic. All will, however, be pieces I love to wear and that I feel most myself in.  Dressing myself has been an evolution of sorts and finally in midlife I’ve realized just because it’s trendy doesn’t mean it will work for my body type or lifestyle.  My ability to dress myself has definitely improved over the years as I have become more comfortable with my style and my body and shifted to choosing pieces that flatter both.

Things you won’t find here…perfect punctuation, lots of crafts, any fairy tale other than my own! Being authentic is important to me and I border on being a little too honest at times which you can either find refreshing or disturbing if you are one of my family members.  I love freely, forgive easily and offer grace for those instances in between.  I am a work in progress and thank God daily for His grace in overseeing my crazy life.

I’ve been married for the past 22 years to my absolute soulmate (que love story), Keith, who supports and loves me hard but also keeps me in check. Marriage is a precious gift I do not take for granted. We are closing in on that empty nest life and realizing we still have so much fun together!

My super power is making beautiful babies and I’m the proud momma to four (ages 33,30,21 & 18) who have blessed me, challenged me, and given me lots of great blog material over the years.   Jordan, Riley, Dillon and Carly Jo have been my craziest adventure and more than I could have ever dreamed of.  I’m also the proud Honey to a perfect baby girl, Haisley, who truly is the light in this crazy world we live in. Hopefully we will be adding a new son to the family in the near future too as Jonathan already feels like family!
