Maxi Love – Ageless Style June
The Ageless Style Link-Up – The first Tuesday of every month ten over 40 bloggers present a different style theme and show a myriad of ways to wear it, all the while proving you can still be fashionable and on trend over 40 and beyond. This month the theme chosen by Jonet is styling a maxi dress or skirt.
In May I showed off a love or let go maxi dress I’ve had in my closet for years but rarely wear and styled it with a little twist. When this beauty showed up on my doorstep in my latest Stitch Fix there was zero question whether or not it would stay! A maxi dress is such a versatile piece for your closet and can easily be dressed up or down. There are a few tips I’d suggest if you are looking to add a new maxi to your wardrobe.
Definitely choose a style to flatter your assets. My shoulders and neckline are definitely areas I don’t mind showing off, so this halter like top was perfect for me. I can easily toss on a jacket and create a look to wear to the office or choose to show off my shoulders for a date night with my love.
Maxis come in various shapes as well with many long and flowy, some with more of an empire waist and some fitted at the waist. This maxi works so well for me as it is fitted in more of an empire waist which, for me, is smaller than my natural waist and allows the dress to then flow easily over my problem areas.
Look for a pattern to call attention to your figure as well. If you want more attention up top, keep the top less subtle than the bottom. Finding a solid maxi and topping with some great accessories or a vest is another of my favorite ways to wear a maxi.
Choosing a length can often be the hardest. I am 5’7″ so typically maxi dresses are the perfect length for me but this one does lean on the shorter side. I personally don’t want much leg showing and leaned towards flats with this dress. If you are on the shorter side, I would not let the length scare you away. A quick trip to a tailor to take a little length off the bottom and you will be good to go.
Personally I think anyone can get away with wearing a maxi length dress or skirt no matter your height or size. They are a great option for the summer months. If you haven’t found your perfect style I encourage you to keep looking!
