March Bucket List

Mitchael Journey

We are knee deep into our busy season and as much as I love it I can also become overwhelmed so quickly if I don’t stay on top of things.  Last month it really helped to write down my monthly list.

 Let’s see how I did for February……

1.  Focused on being blessed not stressed…..if I let it the hustle and bustle can really get me in a twit.  With girl scout cookie sales, basketball wrapping up, two weekends in Fort Worth for baseball activities and one weekend traveling in Arizona there was not much time for any downtime.  I did feel a little stressed a few times but did a pretty good job talking myself down.
2.  Continue date night….well this one definitely got put on the back burner but was not a total loss.  We managed to get away for dinner once, a night away to Fort Worth and we met up at the grocery store one night after dropping kids off at activities.
3.  See the Grand Canyon….check!  If you haven’t seen my Arizona recap you can read about it here
4.  Shop my own closet!  What a concept right?  I did really well for the first two weeks and then I caved.  I returned some items late to J. Crew Factory and received the credit in a gift card so I did a little shopping and then hello…the Nordstrom sale!  I didn’t go crazy but I did add a few items for spring.  On the up side I definitely pulled together several outfits straight from my closet I had never thought to put together previously and I have filled a trash bag full of clothes to donate as I realized they were never going to thrill me.
5.  Read a book….y’all…I read TWO!!  I will review both in a future post.
March is definitely one of my favorite months of the year.  The time changes to daylight savings, everything starts to turn green again and of course spring break.  Probably one of the biggest perks to working at a university is I still get spring break!  We only have 3 holidays instead of 5 but it is definitely a bonus.

1. Trip alone with Keith!  We are heading to California for a 4 nights and we haven’t been away for more than a weekend since 2009 so we are super excited.  Bonus to be going to somewhere with sunshine after February proved to be so gloomy here in Texas.
2.  Take dinner to one family.  As a busy mom, deciding every night what we will have for dinner is sometimes so stressful.  I took dinner to a family last week and I decided I really want to bless a family with dinner every month so I’m writing it down!
3.  Plan something fun for Spring Break that does NOT include a baseball game!  From February to June we are consumed with baseball so while we have a few extra days off I hope to find something to do that does not revolve around the sport.  Carly is insistent that heading out of town to watch baseball is NOT a vacation!
4.  Read a good book and get back on track with my daily devotional.   I’m thinking of choosing the Husbands Secret and Keep it Shut.  My list continues to grow every month so I really need to read faster!  I have also really gotten lax about my daily devotional and I need to make it a priority to get that in daily.
5.  Workout at least four days a week.  This is another thing I often let go by the wayside when things get crazy even though it is the one thing that gives me the energy and the peace of mind to not feel stressed.  Five workouts is really what I need to be doing but if I can make four consistently I will be happy.
6. Resume my “nights off”!! If you are new you can read about my goal to Be Present in 2015 and the the ways I hoped to get there here.  I only had one “night off” in February and I totally need this time.  Having one night when I can leave the house for two hours and just focus on writing or reading or just something for me was huge in January.  Knowing I had that time reserved helped me stay present with my family on the other days.   The kids now have activities ever night of the week but Friday so this has gotten tricky but I’m determined to make it work.
Is spring a busy time for your family?  What are some ways you stay on track and keep the stress to a minimum?

  1. Great goals! I love the 'shop your closet' and 'be blessed, not stressed' ones for Feb. I need to do those too! What a great idea to bring a dinner to someone! That is so kind. And working on getting in daily devotionals – that's hard! What are your ideas to make sure you do it? I'm trying to do it at nap time right now. Have a beautiful day! -Jess

    1. Our life is a little wild and wacky right now and the only time I have found that I can have enough quiet to actually soak up the words is over my lunch hour. My only other option is to get up at 4:45 so I have enough time before leaving for the gym…ha…I really love to sleep.
