Looking Back Blogiversary Style- Style Six
August marks the month I hit post on that very first blogpost 7 years ago and joined the world of bloggers. Boy have things changed a ton since then! What started out as a way to just share what I loved with the world, became a second job. I’ve loved so much about this space over the last 7 years, but have also struggled to remember why I started some days.
Sharing my closet and pieces I truly love will always be something I love to share. Somewhere in the mix it seems like it all became way more commercial than I really wanted and instead of showing you how to create looks with what you have, I was showing you what you needed to buy. Don’t get me wrong, I love to grab new pieces for my closet too, but once it is in the closet I sometimes struggle to actually wear the pieces. The blog gave me a place to be creative with my looks and see my closet differently.
All this to say, this space has had many days of feeling “forced” and for me that equals zero creativity. I want to continue to show you pieces I find that I love and that work for a body like mine that is changing over the years but more than that I want to show you that no matter your age or shape you can still feel confident in whatever style you choose. So if it seems like I am not posting as consistently here it’s not your imagination. I do not want to force a post I don’t truly love and will be focusing more on quality over quantity in the year to come.
I thought it would be fun to look back at my most viewed looks over the last 7 years. Thankfully my photos did improve from that first mirrored selfie. I will say I was a master at the top down selfie and may be just a little ticked that I lost that skill. Top down selfies were some of my faves!
I was so crazy over these mustard jeans! They came from a boutique a friend owned and they stuck around for several years. My Frye boots were an investment that first year and I have never regretted them as they are still going strong and are a timeless purhcase. The scarf and the denim jacket are also still hanging around my closet so I would say they were a price per wear win!
Ahh…..seriously y’all are probably like whatever but I love a top down selfie! This one gives me all the feels as this plaid shirt and bird sweater were some of my fave pieces that I sadly finally had to let go of due to wear. Those converse became my boat shoes and probably need to be tossed but they are somewhere in the garage. Ha!
Y’all, the sweater over a dress trick is seriously one of the best things that ever happened in my life! Talk about a closet stretcher! Pull a tshirt or a sweater over a dress and it makes a fresh new look. Not to mention this pattern mixing may have made me feel like a girl with real style sense. Ha!
And I mean, in 2017 I guess I figured if two patterns worked together why not try three? Stripes + Stripes + Animal Print…..HERE….FOR….IT! I miss this combo and really think I need to try to recreate it.
I bared it almost all by posting myself in a swimsuit in 2018 with some words of encouragement to wear your suit. We aren’t getting any younger and missing out on fun times with the family out of fear of wearing a swimsuit is for the birds. Intead, finding a piece that suits you with confidence is a winner!
Every year my Stitch Fix unboxings are some of the highest viewed posts 2019 was no exception. This kimono I also had in red and loved it so much until I ripped a big hole in it.
Readers also seem to always appreciate a “ways to wear” post and showing 3 ways to style this sweater was no exception. I’m on a mad hunt right now for open toed booties….they are my fave fall transition shoe and all of mine have seen better days!
And let’s just say, my style posts have just really been blah in 2021. Not one single style post is in my top 10 viewed post but this little outift (that I LOVE) was part of a What’s Up Wednesday post and I’m not saying it was the look that did it but I’m still sharing it. My body has changed a ton this last year and it’s been a journey finding clothes and outfits that make me feel confident. I’m determined to do it though and am working on myself from the inside out!
I’m not sure where my 8th year of blogging is going to take me, but I know for certain I’m not stopping anytime soon. If nothing else this little scrapbook of memories is something I love looking back on.
