Let’s Talk – Guys

·

I’m joining Andrea and Erika for this months Let’s Talk linkup to talk about guys!

Guys….they are’t girls!  Isn’t that for sure.  They communicate differently, process differently, smell differently….they are different.

I have saved this picture for several years because it is just such a great example of how guys process differently.  We were getting lunches and such ready one morning and I asked Dillon to grab a package of oatmeal and put it in a bowl for me.  He did exactly what I asked him to do….literally!  I laugh every single time I think about it.

The  guys in my life can fill my heart with so much joy but on the same day drive me crazy out of my mind. They are all just a little different and I have made so many mistakes in trying to figure out how best to communicate with them.  The biggest thing I have learned is to stop thinking they are going to read my mind because that is never going to happen.  I’ve also learned that letting them know exactly what is on my mind will not always deliver the result I was hoping for.

Here are the 3 guys that make my heart thump!

Keith

Keith-Babe-Dad-Catfish

I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been in the middle of a conversation with this guy when he starts to respond with so much enthusiasm in his voice and I’m thinking he’s really been listening and buying in to the “talk” and he totally starts telling me about some place he heard about that would be awesome to go fishing.  Really?  Really….this guy thinks about fishing most of the time I think.  He does love me enough to let me drag him around doing some of the things I love too but I’ve truly never seen him happier than when he his sharing his love for fishing.  I’m a little too serious about life sometimes and try to make things complicated and this guy truly is just so simple.  As much as he would like to keep up the tough guy act, this guy is snuggly and knows how to love unconditionally really, really well.

Riley

Riley Cole-Riles-RC-Bud

Oh Riley…..this kid….you just never know for sure what to expect from him.  He loves to be silly and make us laugh for sure and when I saw this picture of him walking behind the reporter I knew he had done it on purpose.  The first year at the CWS I saw him stop in the outfield and couldn’t figure out what he was doing until I saw the selfie on twitter he had taken for some fans.  There are times I think he could be a walking SNL skit and political correctness is not something he knows much about.  He loves doing crazy crap like waking my littles up from a sound sleep and rushing them out of their beds telling them the house is on fire.  He’s a good sport (most of the time) and doesn’t mind my Christmas pranks likes these onesie pj’s but he can turn on a dime if he feels threatened in any way. He does not like being wrong and will argue a point to the end of the earth so the two of us sometimes just have to part ways.  Thankfully he also moves on fairly quickly!

Dillon

Dillon-Dill Pickle-DDill-Slim

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree here and this kid would rather be hunting or fishing than anything else.  He is trying to figure out a way that he can get somewhere to fish during the day over the summer and that is still a few months away.  He is completely opposite of Riley and does not share a lot of info with me and truthfully it’s driving me Ca-RAZY!  I think now that he knows this he’s just taken it up a notch. Thankfully he still knows how far a hug and a sweet smile will get him but oh my gosh if we don’t figure out what to do about his smelly feet I may just have to start burning his socks.

What are  your secrets for living with the guys in your life?

  1. Having awesome guys in our life makes life better for sure ! And there is really nothing too much better than a bond between a mother and a son! Have a great week !!!

  2. Such gorgeous men surrounding the beautiful Queen!! Oh girl you know I relate to that mother son bond BIG TIME!!! Love this post so much!!

  3. I can totally relate to obsessing over fishing but with football! It's all day every day for us – just the life of a football coach! Thankfully I have a girly girl who balances him out! 🙂

  4. Hahaha! My husband does that exact same thing about the fishing! It's like his mind NEVER leaves fishing and all conversations lead back to fishing for some reason! 😉

  5. I enjoyed reading a little bit about the guys in your life.Loved the topic so much I decided to do the same with a link back to your blog. Have a wonderful week.

  6. I am still cracking up about the oatmeal packet in the bowl-too funny! Loved reading about all of the men in your life!

  7. Oh my gosh, the oatmeal packet in a bowl is the BEST! Hahaha!! Loved all these little anecdotes. I think my secret for living with guys is "practice makes perfect." The longer you've done it, the more used to it you get and are able to adjust your expectations and behavior!

  8. OK so the oatmeal picture reminds of the time I asked Gordon to turn on my curling iron for me. I walked in the bathroom and there were three curling irons turned on, I guess in his defense I have too many and he wasn't really sure if he would have gotten the right one. HA! Cole and Scott are so incredibly different. I can so relate to having one kid (Cole) who tells you everything….even the stuff that curls your toes and you really didn't want to know and then Scott who is basically a mute!
