Layering with Black on Black

I have seen so many looks lately combining black on black.  Such an easy combo and one that looks amazing on it’s own or layered with complimenting pieces.  I’ve really been wanting to create a black on black look perfect for fall to wear with my cognac over the knee boots and I think I succeeded!

I really love the way the cognac color pops against black and could not wait to pull out my over the knee boots to wear over my leggings.

And this scarf, well, I am so glad I picked it up last year on sale because it has really been one of my favorites this fall.  It is large like a blanket scarf but not nearly as heavy so it has been perfect for a Texas fall.

I’m also really digging these olive earrings from Nickel and Suede.  If you are looking for an amazing gift I would really recommend.  They are a great price point for a gift and so many colors to choose from in various styles and sizes.  Right now all earrings are 20% off on their site too!

The Gray Monroe leopard clutch is another one of my favorite pieces to dress up an ordinary outfit. Last year I paired with another black on black look and it is still a favorite.  This clutch would also make a great gift for a special lady in your life!

While we are talking about leopard, take note of another one of my fave pieces.  I received this leopard cuff from my friend Holly last Christmas and I love adding in with unsuspecting patterns.   So many fun patterns to choose from and, again, gift idea someone will love I promise!

Finally, I topped the look with this shaggy vest for an added layer now that Texas finally got the memo it is fall.

I am just loving how all these pieces have paired together to create a fun fall look.

Not only is this outfit full of fall fun but it is also comfortable enough to wear on Turkey day! Leggings are always a good choice when there is dressing and pumpkin pie on the menu as far as I’m concerned.

Speaking of leggings, these are the Hue brand but they are a slightly more expensive version but totally worth it in my opinion.  They are a tad bit thicker and the waist band is super comfy.

  1. I love it Shelly! I can't wait to wear my OTK boots, I'm chomping at the bit. That scarf looks so good with those earrings – great color combo!

  2. There is something about black and cognac that I just adore and the scarf you have bought it all together with is fantastic!!! I'm wearing my hue leggings today!! You look smashing and sweet!!!!!

  3. Black on black on black is my style 24/7. I always have been this way. I just love the simplicity of it and being able to then use accessories for a pop of color.

  4. I adore this outfit! I love how the scarf ties in the colors from your boots and earrings. Very classy! Thank goodness it's finally scarf weather here in the south!

  5. Since we're talking about black…the commercial with Kirsten Bell and Ted Danson advertising their TV show where she walks into a coffee shop with a black turtleneck, black pants and a blue jean jacket…every. single. time. I see that commercial I silently pray that turtlenecks will make a comeback! I actually purposely set out to find my old black one over the weekend! I can't do scarves, but I can rock a turtleneck!
