Texas heat is no joke y’all. It’s heated up nicely and honestly would be a little more tolerable if not for the humidity. These pictures were all shot at 7:30 in the morning and I was a big hot, sweaty mess within 15 minutes. With active kids it’s almost impossible to camp out all summer in the air conditioning so I’m sharing a few tips for keeping cool in the summer heat!
Of course if you have any hope at all of looking presentable, you want to choose clothing to work with the temps and not against them. Choosing fabrics which breathe such as linen, cotton and even rayon which are lightweight is a good first step. Also trading the black for white and other light colors is a good choice. You also want to trade tight fitting clothes on hot days for pieces with more flow.
Stay hydrated! So, so important and something we all know but do we really put this to practice? Especially this time of year drinking half your body weight in water each day will keep you functioning well. If you are having signs of dizziness or cramping chances are you need to drink more water. I am terrible, TERRIBLE about drinking enough! I seriously get way excited by seeing clear pee y’all. It’s my goal every day!
Find some water and get near it or in it! It’s the perfect time to head to the lake, beach or even the pool for a dip to cool down. As many days as we spend at sporting events, we have even found using mister fans are a huge help in keeping us cool.
Eat foods higher in water content. Now is not the time for super heavy meals so bring on the salads and lots of watermelon. I crave these types of food this time of year and feel it is primarily due to the heat. Also refrain from eating super heavy meals which can cause you to feel even hotter.
Find some shade even if it’s only an umbrella. We invested in a pop up tent years back because we have visited a many a ballpark with no shade in sight. It’s amazing how a little shade and a slight breeze can cool you off after you have been sweating. When I was young I never understood how my dad could stand to wear long sleeves shirts when it was so warm outside but his layers actually did wonders to cool him off on a hot day.
Have the temperatures heated up where you are? What are your tips for staying cool in the summer heat?
