In the News – Friday Favorites

Happy Friday friends! We had what I hope was our last little blast of winter this week and literally covered my plants for only the 2nd time this winter. Sadly the lack of super cold weather probably means more mosquitoes for us but I’m just so ready to see the sunshine for more than one day at a time! Feel free to remind me of this come August…ha!

Keeping up with the news is definitely something I’ve always struggled with. Partly because I have crappy reading comprehension and focus but also, I’ll admit, because it can be a bit depressing. While this is true there are several outlets I’ve been loving for awhile and a new one I found last week after B Loved Boston shared her picks. So here are some of my favorites in the news!

The Skimm has been my go to for probably over a year now. It comes directly to my email every day and I feel just a tad bit smarter knowing at least a teeny bit of news. There are links within which allow you to dig deeper on each story as you so choose. How happy was I to read they were starting a podcast! Yep, Skimm this started this week goes live at 5 Monday thru Friday which is perfect for me. Bonus because I love her voice and presentation.

The Newsworthy is a podcast I’ve been listening too for about a year. The tagline is fast, fair, fun and at under 10 minutes it’s easy to listen to while getting dressed for work or on my commute.

While the Morning Brew is described as a daily newsletter designed for young business professionals, I have been reading this week. This is another area I totally suck at keeping up with but have to admit the way this is formatted has been able to hold my interest.

Keeping up with news close to home is also important, especially during our states legislative session. The Texas Tribune does a great job with news across the state but I’m currently receiving The Brief daily which gives a recap of the items being discussed on both the senate and house floor here in Texas.

In women’s health news, Baylor Scott and White has launched the Power of 2 Campaign. As a proponent of preventative health care, this was a fun partnership for me and I have been so excited to work directly with this campaign (be sure to check out this IG post!). After reaching out to my doctor for a media contact, I ended up being asked to do a quick interview which was totally out of my comfort zone but the girls made it so fun. You can see the quick clip here!

We are starting our weekend with some baseball and hopefully buying a new dishwasher! Yes, I know we are living on the edge. Based on the amount of feedback I received on Facebook, we are all pretty passionate about dishwashers.

Have a super weekend friends! Head over to see where I’m linking up today.
