How to Choose Specs to Compliment Face Shape
Eyewear is an accessory often overlooked. Most of us at some point in our lives will need some sort of prescription eyewear. Even those lucky enough to make it through life with 20/20 vision more than likely will own a pair of sunglasses. Well, I have never had a problem picking sunnies because I’ve been an aviator kind of girl since Top Gun was released. Ha! But glasses have been a different story.
After wearing contacts since 8th grade, I finally had lasik surgery almost 14 years ago. It was amazing and I probably should write a little post about it in itself. Glasses had always been a huge challenge for me because my eyesight was so awful it really limited me to what frames could accommodate the lenses. Had I only known then my face shape played such a role in dictating the right type of frame it might have saved me from feeling like a total geek!
Flash forward and today people are wearing glasses as a fashion statement and not just for correction! While lasik has been amazing for me, my eyes began to struggle seeing clearly while using the computer. Lots of blurry vision and such caused me to head for an eye exam. After learning my eyes did indeed need a slight correction for both close up and far away, I began the process of picking frames.
It would have been helpful to have done a little research up front! In preparing for this post, I actually sat on my back patio with a tape measure taking measurements of my face! My face falls into the square category with my chin making me lean towards the heart shape. There are so many articles out there with helpful info but I am super visual so seeing some real people with their face marked for the shape they currently have was most helpful! Reading How to Figure Out Your Face Shape Once and For All helped me identify mine!
I’m thankful the tech has been fitting glasses for years as she really had some great suggestions. I ended up with a pair of Tom Fords and I love them. What do you think? Did I choose a pair that works with my face shape? I’m pretty sure my face is also a little lopsided because all glasses seem to sit a little crooked on me! Just another amazing quirky little trait!
Side note, I have now ordered this top twice! I snagged a huge hole in the first and loved it so much I had to grab another when it was 40% off!
Sunglasses are a lot more fun but it is still helpful to have some idea which ones to try! I settled for a pair of Ray-bans a little over a year ago and love them so much. Honestly I’m quite surprised I have not lost them! It’s no wonder I’ve always loved this style as they are suggested for a heart shaped face.
You can read this Spec-Tacular article for helpful tips on picking the right sunglasses for you. I also loved The Best Sunglasses for Every Face Shape from Allure magazine which shows actual glasses on familiar faces.
