Hey Sugar! Happy Valentines Day! I’m waking up today just thinking about how good it feels to love and be loved. I feel so grateful to be surrounded daily by amazing people in my life who love me wholly and unconditionally with no expectations.
But I remember a time when my Valentines day was just another day to feel alone and unloved. It was never true of course. There were always people in my life who loved me but my own self worth was so defined by not having a “soul mate” in my life.
Guess what? Even when I did find my the “right” man and had four amazing children in my life, there were still days I didn’t feel loved! It wasn’t the man I needed to feel loved after all! What I really needed was to learn to love myself.
Learning to love myself was a process and it wasn’t easy. It took so much grace and forgiveness, all of which I could only find from God. Realizing the only love I ever really needed was given to me so freely from above brought so much freedom to love myself. Through loving myself I have a greater heart to love others in my life.
Do I always like who I am every day? Nope, there are days when the person I am can be hateful, bitter, and ungrateful. What I’ve learned is that even if I may not necessarily like myself, I love myself enough to never stay there long.
Learning to love myself is the only way I’ve been able to learn to give love freely to others. The kind of love that comes straight from the heart and has zero strings attached. The kind of love that doesn’t sulk because there is no expectation of it being returned.
I hope you are reading this today and nodding your head because you too know this kind of love! But if you’re not, if you are still back in that place where you are searching for someone else to love you to fill up an empty space, please know I get it. I’m thinking of you today too and will be praying for you.
So, hey sugar, grab that look that makes it easy to love yourself, put it on and go do something you love just for you!
