Giving Thanks – TBB Asks November Linkup
While we should spend everyday giving thanks, November always seems to bring it to the front of our minds. Today, The Blended Blog is hosting the November TBB Asks series and it’s all about giving thanks. Grab the prompts and share your answers!
ONE | Oh sweet gratitude journal, I want to love you! Let’s just face it, I really suck at staying on task with things such as this. Maybe I haven’t found just the right one but so far I have failed at staying dedicated to this daily. Last year I added pages to my planner for the year and I’m ashamed to even say how many days I actually logged. I can’t wait to learn more about Erin’s prayer journal launching later this week. I feel like I just haven’t found the right fit for me. Heck, maybe I just need a sticky note on my bathroom mirror because sometimes it seems like that is the place where “all the things” are flowing so swiftly through my mind!
TWO | I LOVE hosting Thanksgiving at my house, like really, really love it! I am the keeper of my Meme’s dressing and I love nothing more than making it every year and having my family and friends over for Thanksgiving dinner. This year, I’m not sure what is going to happen since we will actually be traveling on Thanksgiving day. I’ve already been thinking I may just have to cook on Friday this year.
THREE | No doubt it is my Meme’s dressing! It is delicious but I also just love pulling out her recipe card in her sweet chicken scratch and remembering the care she took in feeding people. I’m not a fan of turkey really but we definitely take down some other sides at Thanksgiving including broccoli cheese casserole. I have a couple of other yummy dishes I will try to share soon in case you are looking for a new side!
FOUR | Nature, hmm, well I guess I might say I’m grateful for deer since it gets my boys out of the house on the weekend! They are never happier than when they are able to sit in a deer or duck blind or out on the water fishing. When Keith and I were first married I was so annoyed he was gone so much and now I plan some me time or time with the girls during hunting season.
FIVE | Heck yes to pumpkin pie! I will eat a piece on Thanksgiving day and then have another for breakfast on Black Friday while I’m shopping the sales in my pajamas! We use the pumpkin pie recipe right on the Libby pumpkin can and it always turns out perfect with a dollup of cool whip few sprinkles of crushed pecans on top!
SIX | Well, I guess I’m going to have to fess up here. About 6 months ago I tossed all of my old traditional cookbooks. While I love a good southern meal, the dishes we eat the most I know how to make from memory and these days we are really trying to eat a little cleaner (aka, less cream of mushroom soup). Typically I grab my recipes from Pinterest these days!
SEVEN | As mentioned, I do not really love turkey and I have not had a deep fried turkey in probably 20 years. Last year I cooked just a turkey breast in my instant pot (yes, I did!) and it was actually pretty yummy. We would opt for steaks or some sort of BBQ if left up to us for Thanksgiving.
EIGHT | Let me get sidetracked for just a moment, when I was in college my Meme would make me “TV Dinners” with her own homemade food. She would save the little containers from frozen meals and the best were always the turkey and dressing leftovers. Now days there really are not a ton of leftovers around here but I will definitely have them at least once if they are available.
NINE | Oh gosh, what a stumper! Lately it has been a renewed love of the Swifter dry cloths. Y’all, I love my Dutch but it’s like we have a second dog with the amount of dog hair I pick up. About 6 months ago the vacuum was no working well and Keith finally took it completely apart and (gasp) it was stuffed full of dog hair. I decided to try the Swifter which had been just sitting in the laundry corner unused for years and I swear it has made such a difference.
TEN | I am definitely most grateful for home cooked meals! Deciding what to cook I hate to do but the actual cooking I love. We definitely eat at home more than we eat out most of the time and I definitely feel better when I’m eating at home! Sundays are typically for meal planning and I’ve been using this free printable for awhile because they let me plan my meal on the left and write out the grocery list to the right. I don’t share a ton of recipes here on the blog but you can find the ones I do share here.
Mostly, though, I am always just the most grateful to know I didn’t deserve any of this life I’m living yet I’ve been blessed abundantly. Any month with a holiday I’m especially grateful for because I know it means I will see all of these faces at one time!
