Girls Day in Waco

Waco Trip - Magnolia Table

You didn’t think these chicks would come all the way to Texas without a little detour to Waco to see a little Chip and Jo first hand did you? Living just an hour down the road, I’ve been a time or two and couldn’t wait to play guide to a girls day in Waco!

We made an attempt to rise and shine early so we could dine at Magnolia Table. Even though we arrived by 9:30, the wait was already almost 2 hours. We decided taking a peek at the decor and grabbing a homemade biscuit would satisfy our taste buds. The biscuits come two to an order and are served with delicious strawberry butter. So good!

If you ever do make it into the restaurant to dine, the deviled eggs and maple bacon are great starters! Tossing in this pic from my last trip!

Waco Trip - Waco Tours

While I’ve visited Waco a TON, I have to say taking the Waco Tour was so fun and I learned some things I didn’t know. Plus, they opened our tour with a prayer and were so entertaining the entire tour! They even took pictures and texted them to us at the end so we could all soak it all in and not have to worry about getting pictures together.

Yep, that would be Jimmy Don in the flesh! You can find him and his artwork just around the corner from the silos.

Waco Trip - Shotgun House

We saw several of the houses from Fixer Upper including the Shotgun house. This one along with most of the others we viewed are now on air BNB so you can visit AND stay in a Fixer Upper!

Waco Trip Common Grounds Coffee

Our tour took us to Common Grounds and Heritage Creamery where we had a tough choice between coffee or ice cream. Surprisingly we ALL chose ice cream and it was delish even on a chilly morning.

We learned all about Waco and the downturn that hit with a tornado in the 50’s as it swept through downtown and destroyed many businesses. The Alico building was not damaged, however, and still stands today. Thanks to Baylor University, which has a beautiful campus by the way, and two of their graduates (yep, Chip & Jo) Waco has rebounded really nicely. If you want to see pictures of me WITH Chip & Jo head here.

Waco Trip - Harp Design Co

Harp Design (see the Fixer Upper next door) were also fun little stops. They have so many cute decor items available for purchase. Our tour guides noted their personal fave cupcake shop is actually Baked Bliss.

Waco Trip - Lovers Leap

We also stopped at Lovers Leap where we heard a tall tale about how it received it’s name. Of course it also came with a great little song complete with hand movements once we were back on the road! If you missed that it’s still live im my instagram highlights. You can bet the 5 of us had it running through our heads multiple times on our trip!

Waco Trip - Magnolia

Of course shopping the silos, eating at the foodtrucks and grabbing a cupcake for the road. The Silos truly are a gathering place. While shopping Jo’s designs is a beautiful treat, finding a place to sit on the lawn on a beautiful day and have some fellowship with friends is the best.

Seriously….best grilled cheese and tomato soup! I meant to only eat half the sandwich but I’m not that strong!

Waco Trip - Magnolia Press

The newest addition to the Magnolia compound is the Press Coffee shop. Around the corner a new furniture store will be opening soon as well.

Waco Trip - The Findery

One of my fave stores to browse, the Findery, is actually a block away and has this fun mural on the backside. Not sure how we managed to blend our outfits so well without even trying but we were the picture of fall don’t you think?

You can see more from our entire girls weekend by visiting Kellyann, Laura, Andrea, Lisa & Chrissy! I hope to be back to recap the remainder of our time together soon!

If you have a trip to Waco on your list and will be staying more than a day, I highly recommend starting with the Waco Tour and then venturing out to a few of these favorites.

Stay at Hotel Indigo

Shop over 60 vendors art Spice Village

A glass (or bottle no judgement) of wine on the rooftop at Waco Winery

Visit Cameron Park where you can hike Jacobs Ladder and spend a day at one of my favorite zoos.

Stop by Lula Janes for a fun little joint – when you leave a tip it is used to pay for a meal for someone less fortunate!

Stop into Fabled Bookshop & Cafe for a little reading break

If you are a Dr. Pepper lover stop by the museum and see where it got it’s start and make your own concoction!

And of course, you know I love a good mural! There are plenty to choose from including a few I showed off on a girls trip a few years back here.

My biggest tip is to go early or late in the day and take note, the Silos are not open on Sundays! Saturdays or days of big events are probably the very busiest.
