Friday Favorites

·
You may have seen yesterday I was totally on the struggle bus as this little shower remodel has my house in disarray.  Friday always seems to make everything just seem a little bit brighter thought doesn’t it?  While we do have a weekend of baseball, Dillon plays nearby and the games are at decent times so I think we will have plenty of time to take care of some business around here.  I’m going to make this short and sweet and random as usual….here are some favorite things and not so favorite news for the week.

“The key to longevity is to learn every aspect of music that you can.” – Prince

I was so sad to hear of Prince’s passing.  I so remember listening to Prince on the volleyball and basketball bus in junior high.  Several of the girls even had purple shirts with some of the lyrics to 1999 on them.  My freshman year Purple Rain was in the theatre and I still have this very album.  The song Purple Rain is still on my playlist!  I can totally see the high school cheerleaders doing a dance at the pep rally to When Doves Cry like it was yesterday.  And will we ever forget Julia Roberts singing Kiss in the bubble bath?  If I had to pick my absolute favorite Prince song though it would probably be Little Red Corvette….it really makes me want to drive fast!  A great top 10 list of Prince songs was put together by the Huffington Post which you can find here.   Prince was also seen as somewhat insightful by some and in an article here you can find some great Prince quotes.
Family Dinner
Need a quick and easy dinner after a long week?  Well since I didn’t do a very good job of meal planning and have pretty much just been eating chips and hot sauce for dinner, Keith grabbed this out of the pantry last night and added some deer sausage.  I have used shrimp in the past too and it really is so yummy.  The box calls for adding a TBSP of oil but I always skip it and it is still just as yummy. I really try not to eat things like this often because the sodium is super high but there is a lower sodium option available and in a pinch this satisfies the family.
Family
You are never too big to get super excited about a large box arriving evidently.  My friend Holly was helping to keep Dutch out of the dog house by sending me the link to a locking trash can and the box has made Carly a happy camper.  I came home on Thursday to find her snuggled up in her new reading nook.  The house is already a disaster so why not right?
The Simple Human Locking Trash Can is the perfect solution if there is a nosy dog in the house.  We have literally been taking our trash can into the garage ever single day when we leave or Dutch would have the trash strung out everywhere.  My only wish is that I had a hidden camera so I can see his disappointment!  Isn’t Amazon Prime like the best thing ever?  I ordered this on Monday morning and it arrived on Tuesday.  Tanya actually mentioned Amazon Prime Now on her Friday Favorites last week and I doubt we have it here in College Station but if you live in a larger city you might check that out.
While the rain has everything looking green here in College Station, my home town is currently suffering as the Colorado river was expected to peak on Friday night at 47.3 feet.  I was saddened to see the video footage here.  This is not the first time I’ve seen a flood in this area but I have never seen it this bad.  The Cypress area of Houston is also suffering quite a bit of flooding.  Lots of prayers for all those displaced.  I do have to say seeing my little town rally around those in need was heartwarming.
I did want to give a shoutout to Allison at Sydney Fashion Hunter for featuring me on Wednesday. Allison lives down under and has fun style but also post some bits about traveling such as this post on her recent trip to Bali.   She featured this romper I picked up at Old Navy that is perfect for my 40 something legs.  You can see the complete post and how I styled it here.  Also a shout out to Ada at Elegance and Mommyhood who is just the sweetest and also highlighted the romper in her Thursday linkup.  It is always such a fun surprise to see your face or mention on another bloggers page!

Hoping to have my bathroom completed today so I can get to cleaning and have things back in order so next week can be back to normal.  Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!

  1. Happy Friday sweetness! I love seeing your romper ensemble featured as well and it's no wonder because it was absolutely darling! Oh I am so sorry about the flooding it always makes me so sad to see that. I do love myself a big box as well and I would've jumped in there with Carly Jo!! I hope your weekend is full of baseball fun, time to do the things you need too and lots of happiness!

  2. I was so sad about PRINCE, I introduced my kids to little Red corvette yesterday…one of my favorite songs ever ! Praying your bathroom gets finished and your house back to normal soon. Have a great weekend

  3. I hope your bathroom gets done…living in a reno zone is no fun! It is so sad about Prince! I grew up listening to all of his music and my fave is Vivian singing Kiss too!!! Zatarins is one of our favorite go-to meals that is quick and tasty! We also like the red beans and rice!

  4. So sad about Price! I plan on including some of his songs on my Monday spin playlist. Love the reading nook. Big boxes are the best! Hope you have a great weekend.

  5. I can't believe he died!! So young too!

Sophie loves boxes! Loves climbing on them, hiding things, putting Fluffy in them, something about boxes and kids.

Hands up to Amazon Prime!! Yes! We have our trash can in a cabinet so that little miss and the cat don't dig in because they are soooo nosy!

So sorry to hear about the rain!

  6. I couldn't believe the news about Prince. The 1999 and Purple Rain albums were seriously the soundtrack of my high school years. I was worried about your family when I saw that Wharton had to be evacuated. In 24 years, I have never seen flooding this bad in Houston, especially the suburbs. Can't wait to see your bathroom renovations.

  7. I was sad to read about Prince too, so many musical icons passing lately it seems.
You look stunning in that last outfit and I STILL can't find a pair of strappy black sandals like that that i like!! Shopping time!!

  8. So sorry to hear about the hometown flooding. That has to be so hard to deal with. We are no strangers to disaster around here and know the pain of loosing your possession. That big box photo cracked me up. My girls are ALWAYS trying to talk me into letting them do something with the boxes we have laying around. I should say yes more often.
