Friday Favorites + Reader Survey
We have survived the first week back to school and my first full week of work of 2018! It wasn’t perfect but we got through it with only a teeny bit of sass and thankfully my hormones were in check so I was able to laugh it off. We did not eat out one single time this week either which is a HUGE win! I’m celebrating by having a lunch date with a dear friend today.
Earlier this week I shared my Word of the Year and I have to say not only is it my new favorite word but having so many of my readers comment made my heart so happy! Hearing from readers and finding connections we have in common is such a highlight for me. There are so many times I may pour my heart and soul into writing something and I’m thinking surely it will go viral (kidding) (kinda) but I hit publish and it ends up being one of my most loved (by me) posts with the lowest views. Then one little comment will show up and someone tells me I’ve touched something for them and it makes it all enough!
If you follow me on Instagram (and why wouldn’t you, ha! ) then you already saw this next picture. I received so many comments and direct messages and even one email regarding this request and I definitely want you guys to weigh in too!
Sure it’s fun to have kids who can head to happy hour with you but parenting adults is no joke y’all! Building relationships and staying connected as they head out into this exciting yet sometimes cruel world is tough. Keeping your mouth shut when you see them venturing off the path you feel is best sometimes feels impossible. I’m working on a feature post later this month from my perspective as a mom to adults and would love to know from those of you nearing this transitional period of parenting what are your questions and concerns? I’d love for you to leave a note in the comments today or head back over to this post on instagram and leave your comment there.
I used insta-stories for a little move it Monday to discuss ways to increase steps during the day even when you are in a desk job. It was so fun to hear ideas from other friends who direct messaged me to give a few tips like parking farther away from the door and not keeping a trash can in your office! I work on the 3rd floor so I have been taking the stairs and heading to the far end of the 1st floor to the ladies room. Even being intentional, it is still eye opening to see I may only hit 4K steps in a day. I did receive a new Stitch Fix with some super cute workout clothes including this sports bra and I’ll be showing the entire box off on my insta-stories for you to see today!
This Sunday I will begin a Wellness Challenge so I headed to take before pictures and record my current weight, measurements and bodyfat percentage. It wasn’t my favorite at all y’all. I will be totally honest and tell you there has not been a style post here for weeks because getting dressed hasn’t been much fun these days. I’m motivated and ready to make a change and having the accountability of a group will definitely be what I need. I hope you guys will cheer me on as I plan to share the progress here along with the meals I will be prepping and the physical activities I’ll be incorporating.
So what else is up for the QIB blog in 2018? Well, I’m hoping you will take a moment to complete this survey and provide a little feedback. I want to post enough content to inspire others but definitely want this space to be filled with quality posts over quantity. My goal is to post 3 times each week but there may be weeks when 2 feels like enough and others when there aren’t enough days in the week for all the words I want to share! Y’all will most definitely get tired of reading the word enough this year. Ha!
Thanks again for following along!

Done and wishing you an incredibly happy and peaceful weeknd!
I finished your survey! I love your blog Shelly. I hope you have a great weekend!
Thank you so much for answering Jenna!
I gotta give a little more thought to that whole adult post idea as far as contribution, but I think it’s a great idea and I’m looking forward to reading it. Have a warm and relaxing weekend, Shelly!
Hope you guys have thawed out over there! We are finally at a reasonable temp today!
Have a wonderful weekend. Parking further away is a great way to get steps in, sometimes I’ll make sure I stand while filing or do more walking back and forth.
Well my kids are not close to the adult years but as for the teen years….I hope you have a terrific weekend. I’ll check your Instastories for a laugh I hope!!! xo
I’m seriously trying to gear up for the upcoming teen years with CJ…she is my mini in every way so I’m sure it will be a complete joy!
I have felt the same way in regards to posts that I just know will go viral and then they are low – but all it takes is one person telling you how much the posts meant. You’ve got this workout challenge!! Hope it’s a fantastic weekend (we will be dealing with snow and ice). 🙁
It really does make such a huge difference to me when someone gains some inspiration from one of my posts Sheryl! I’ve received personal emails at times and those just really touch me. Hope the snow and ice has gone away!
Good luck with your Wellness Challenge. I’m trying to eat healthier this year. I’m not doing any specific challenge, but I definitely realized after Christmas, when even my yoga pants weren’t fitting so well, that I should probably stop eating my body weight in sugar every day!
Yes! Sugar is such a beast especially at my age. All my clothes are still fitting but things have started squeezing out the top. lol
Instastories are my favorite thing to watch! Good luck with your wellness challenge! I am currently in a group as well! Taking those measurements and weight were rough!!
Enjoy your weekend!
Ugh…tell me girl. But they were very eye opening for me! I really have been saying “next week” for like 18 months. Blah
I always enjoy your thoughtful posts on parenting adult children. We have children of similar age – my daughters are 24 and 27 and it really can be more difficult than I expected. I wouldn’t change how close we are and that they tell me everything, but I know I didn’t share things with my parents quite as much. And, you have teens on the other end – I feel for you 🙂
It’s tricky….I love that my kids share alot with me but sometimes I really have to work on my facial expressions! haha
OH I am right there with you hating most everything in my closet right now.. .not that’s it’s my clothes fault I overindulged and stopped exercising but you know what I mean.
Lol….I love that! I keep trying to blame my clothes too! Ugh…I wish it didn’t have to be so hard.
The sport’s bra looks super cute 🙂 I look forward to reading your review. Good look with your Wellness Challenge. Hope you have a great weekend.
Ugh….sadly I will not be doing a post because I just couldn’t get my crap together! I showed all my stuff off on my stories…and that was about it! haha Maybe in April on my next fix!
I’m transitioning into parenting adults, so I look forward to your post on this. I saw your new sports bra on IG and I love it! Mine are all so boring and basic. Have a great weekend!
Haha…most of my sports bras are from Target and as basic as they come….I’m kind of loving having this one to rotate. And yes…parenting adults…hmm….it’s tricky.
It’s no fun to get dressed when you don’t feel good about your body. I know that feeling all too well…and have a little dose of that right now. I’m so much happier when I walk in there and can put on anything without worrying how snug it will be. It get’s harder and harder to keep things the way I want them😩 I have a really good week of making good choices and using My Fitness Pal (which is such a pain in the butt). Hang in there! There are a lot of us in the same boat. And yes to enjoying our older children but still being a parent to them❤️
I know girl….I started tracking again this week too….boo. I’m now at the desperate point because I’ve got to get back into my clothes and refuse to buy any more until I can fit my size!
Since losing weight, shopping and putting clothes on in general doesn’t break my heart. I used to live in all things comfy. I went many years without wearing anything with a zipper or button. I love loving myself a bit more, it’s made fashion fun.
I have really just let this past two years fly by with me making excuse after excuse for not addressing the weight gain….but I love clothes and I love getting dressed and I know the only option is to get my ass back in gear! Thanks for sharing your success girl! It’s been motivating!
