Friday Favorites Random Roundup
Happy Friday! Nothing too exciting on the horizon for us this weekend unless you count crossing the flu shot off your list. Keith and I are helping to host a couple shower tonight for a dear friends son and his fiance’ but other than that I’m planning on being home and not mad about it.
Today I thought I’d share a few recent random favorites that filled me up! A few that touched my heart and one that definitely impressed my belly.
I listened to the book, Where the Light Gets In this week on audible. It rocked me pretty hard to say the least. It is a beautifully written book but hearing Kimberly tell the story in her own voice was so beautiful.
While I haven’t shared a ton here (Brene Brown taught me long ago you don’t share something until you have healed from it), this is a journey I’m walking with my mom right now. It’s been gut wrenching at times but in recent weeks I’ve realized part of the issue, as often is with me and relationships, I was making it way too much about me. We have a long road ahead but I’m hopeful my heart has at least turned a corner.
My mom got to spend a little time with Haisley last weekend and while she was a little fussy for me, my mom connected with her immediately. This picture will be a treasure for me and hopefully for Haisley one day.
Another rocking moment for me last week was listening to this podcast as Brene interviewed Sonya Renee Taylor about understanding the connection between how we think about our bodies and oppression. Radical self love is hard and I’ve come along way but still have so far to go. Definitely adding the book The Body is Not an Apology to my reading list.
Frozen sweet potatoes found there way into my life this past week and what a game changer! It’s easy enough to bake a sweet potato but often I love using them in a breakfast hash and cutting them up is sometimes more effort than I really have time for when I’m meal prepping. I wasn’t sure how these would work but decided to give them a try and they are a win all the way around.
I know this may not look super appetizing, but I promise it is delicious. Here’s how to make this breakfast hash: 1 pkg frozen sweet potatoes, 1 pkg shaved brussel sprouts (you could use any veggie really), 6 slices of turkey bacon (or of course you could use real bacon or even breakfast sausage). I cook the sweet potatoes and bacon in the microwave while I’m sauteeing the brussel sprouts in a little olive oil. Toss it all together and then add a couple of eggs and you have a super healthy and delicious breakfast. Of course I also love a few shots of Franks hot sauce on top of mine.
If you love Tiff’s Treats and have one nearby, you don’t want to miss the chance to enter this giveaway on Instagram! I’ve partnered with Tiff’s Treats to giveaway four $25 gift cards and you can enter through tomorrow by following the details in this post.
Of course the best treat anytime is this little stinker! I got to babysit one night this week so mom and dad could have a date night and she is just the sweetest. Hard to believe she will be 5 months old next week. She can be very serious and those eyebrows are super expressive!
Hope you all enjoy a restful weekend!
