Friday Favorites – All the F’s
Happy Friday Y’all. Today I’m sharing just a few of a my favorites all around the letter F.
{Fall Decorations}
Thursday I was ready to {Bring on Fall} as I blogged about the fall decorations now on display at my house! Fall decorations just really make my house feel warm and cozy and that makes me happy. Now bring on the cooler weather!
{Funny Parenting Posts}
Earlier this week Kelly at Red Head on the Run posted about the day she gave her kids guinea pigs away and y’all, I tell you it’s a must read! Just reading all the comments her kids made about what a terrible mom she was for making such a bad parenting decision had me about to pee my pants!
And if you have never stumbled across Melissa Blair you are missing out. She has deep insights and is an amazing writer but she is also oh so funny! I read her post Ways We’re Getting Parenting Just Right yesterday and loved it but it made me remember a previous post that you parents should also read here.
{Food For Thought}
Last night was the annual Celebration of Hope dinner hosted by our local food bank in an effort to continue the capital campaign supporting a new, larger facility. Here are just a few statistics about food insecurity which is defined as the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
- 48.1 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including 32.8 million adults and 15.3 million children.
- 14 percent of households (17.4 million households) were food insecure.
- In 2013, 5.4 million seniors (over age 60), or 9 percent of all seniors were food insecure.[v]
Texas is higher at 17.2% of households. While realizing the impact of these statistics is definitely not my favorite knowing that we can be part of the solution is. I encourage you to find out more about the food insecurity in your own community. How can you help make a difference? Here are a few ways the Brazos Valley Foodbank has helped our community.
- Provide a backpack of food to school children on Fridays to insure they have access to food.
- Provide a bag of food to local senior citizens who do not have access to food due to transportation limitations or financial choices such as medicine over food.
- Provide food to multiple pantries throughout the community
- Education programs at local schools to talk about nutrition
While this is only a small list I will tell you they do so much more and the hearts of the people working for the food bank are amazing. I heard stories briefly about the backpack program for several years but never felt the impact directly until I walked into our PTO closet at MY kids elementary school one day and saw the number of backpacks full of food waiting to be handed out. How could there be that many children right there in school with my children who may not know if they would have food on the weekend? I was blown away and knew immediately this was something I wanted to be part of.
Just a little food for thought as you start your weekend. Be thankful and feel the blessings we have been given.
{Farmgirl Paints}
Definitely one of my favorites every week is Farmgirl Paints cuffs. I love mine so much and wear them all the time. The hardest part for me is deciding what I want mine to read and restricting myself to only purchasing one each time the shop opens. So much harder this time since she is offering an extended opening through November 2nd. These make such thoughtful gifts. Here is some inspiration if you have trouble deciding on the wording like I do! If you have any questions whatsoever just let me know and I will walk you through the ordering process. Remember, use code fangirlshellyj and receive 15% off.
Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
Linking up with my favorites here.
I'm still on a high from dinner last night! So excited to see how we can help in the future! We truly are L-U-C-K-Y!
I have to read that post about the guinea pig. I got a guinea pig in college and after a few days I put it in a shoebox and returned it to the pet store. I wonder what people would say about me!
