Friday Favorites

Happy Friday!  Welcome to Friday Favorites where sometimes there is a theme and sometimes it’s a random mix mash of crazy; this week you get the latter of the two.  Am I the only one who has been thrown off by a Tuesday holiday?  Yikes!  I had to hold down the fort at work on Monday and ever since I’ve been all sorts of off on my days. I’m so super ready to hang at home this evening and sleep in on Saturday morning.

Only two days of work next week and then Dillon and I are off to Big D for a national baseball tourney and I’m sure it will be long and hot, hot, hot!  If you have any fun restaurants to share in the Farmers Branch area I’d love to hear about it.  Now on to my random faves.

Dutch Buddy

Y’all, Jordan sent me this while she was dog sitting for us and I almost peed my pants.  She just moved into a new place but wasn’t able to move the furniture into the bedrooms because the carpets needed to be cleaned.  She had 3 dogs she was watching plus her own, Pesto, and this was her entertainment.  Dutch loves to be under the blankets but getting out in a hurry when everyone starts barking is quite the task!  He’s special.

Healthy Eating Challenge

We completed 30 days of sharing our meals and encouraging one another to make better choices.  Here are just a few of my favorite meals that were shared to show you eating “clean” and healthy isn’t all that bad!

I was excited to have a few other bloggers join the challenge and share!  Lisa from Coast to Coast has been doing the FASTer Way to Fat Loss and if you are interested she has a link in this post.  She shared the buffalo chicken lettuce wraps in picture #1 and while she didn’t link a recipe, my daughter Jordan shared this one.   My friend Jenni at A Pocketful of Polka Dots also joined us and I’m totally excited about trying the chicken zoodle soup she shared in picture #2. My newest love is jicama tortillas and I loaded them up with chicken carnitas made in my instant pot shown in picture #3.  Lastly, when all else fails a bunless burger is a win!  My friend Alyssa shared her simple dinner of a bunless burger, sweet potatoes and asparagus in picture #4.

All this to say, I am going to continue hosting this little private Facebook group for my own accountability and for some new ideas for presenting a cleaner plate on the table.  If you might be interested, please send me a message at sjanac69@gmail.com or friend me on Facebook and request I add you.  Would love to have you!

Healthy Face

We spend so much time taking care of what we put into our bodies and on keeping our activity up but do we alway spend the same time on our skincare?  Rodan + Fields is my preferred choice for skincare.  I’ve lightened the dark spots and improved the overall tone of my skin using the Reverse regimen and helped to keep the wrinkles away with the Redefine regimen.  The very first product I tried was the Micro-Dermabrasion Paste and I still love to use it once to twice a week to really help exfoliate dead skin.  My newest favorite is the active hydration serum.  I’ve always had dry skin but in my mid forties it has gotten even worse.  This serum makes my face feel so wonderful and the biggest improvement has been on my neck.  No need for my skin to look any older than it needs to!   If you are interested in trying a regimen, you can bundle right now with Lash Boost for a limited time and receive 20% off the package.  Sign up to be a preferred customer and score another 10% off + free shipping.  Contact me at sjanac69@gmail.com to get started or head to the website to take the quiz and determine what you really need.

Week in Review

On Monday I shared the answers to some questions my Blended Blog sisters asked!  One had to do with whether I drink coke or pepsi and, well, I shared this basic sentiment only tonight I found the “real” wording.  Love it.  You can see all my answers here.

Tuesday I joined the Ageless Style beauties to share my thoughts on wearing shorts over 40….ummm yes I will.  Wednesday it was all about sharing a few pictures from our July 4th festivities and I could not help but share this adorable pink top (50% off) because on Wednesdays we wear pink!  Thursday I reviewed four books I read in June and you definitely want to check those out if you are a reader.

And that’s what’s going on around here!  Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

  1. I love a good bunless burger! Although, I love a good bun, too, haha but it’s such an easy way to make it a bit healthier!

  2. Lol! Oh Dutch, that is hilarious. It was like a ghost dog. I am impressed with completing 30 days, that is no easy task! I hope y’all have a great weekend.

    1. Hmm….well it was NOT a strict 30 days Beth but it WAS a great motivator to make better choices even if I didn’t always succeed. Biggest wins….I ate a salad only with a bar full of pizza and skipped chips and hot sauce completely at a mexican restaurant one night. Believe me I made plenty of other bad choices. 🙂

  3. I love your graphic for this post! It looks so nice! And I’ve come to realize that eating healthy is so much easier for me during the school year when my days are structured vs now when everyone constantly wants to go out to eat haha! It’s always nice to go out and choose healthy when everyone else is eating fried chicken but then it’s also nice to get ice cream too ha! Have a great weekend!

    1. Pic Monkey friend….easy peasy! And I know…one reason I’m trying so hard this summer is I pretty much ate myself through the summer of 2016 and gained a good 8lbs that I have yet to lose. If my clothes still fit I wouldn’t mind so much…but….they don’t. Blah! I did have me a 50 cent frosty last night and it was amazing!

  4. Sneaking in a quick read of some my favorite blogs, especially my favorite queen! Finishing up vacay and just wanted to tell you to have a beautiful weekend! My husband goes through 6 Diet Cokes a day! I’ve never really liked pop, always been a water girl! Lol

    1. Hope you are having so much fun momma! I gave up sodas long ago but really wish I loved water more. I drink coffee all morning and will realize at like 1 that I haven’t even started on water..blah. I bought a 64 oz container though to keep on my desk and that has definitely helped me!

  5. I’m a Pepsi girl…..I could live solely on Doritos and Pepsi and just be happy for the rest of my life. Have a great weekend my friend !!!

  6. Hey, hey, hey!!! Thanks for the shout out. I need to get my butt in gear and blog some of the healthy recipes we’ve been eating. I went to Whole Foods to try and find the Jicama tortillas and they didn’t have them. 😭 Where do you find them? (WalMart and Target don’t either, but that didn’t surprise me). This is my last week officially on FWTFL, but I’m going to try to keep up the healthy eating as much as possible. (I think Kent will be really happy to see some of our old meals show back up though😉) 80/20 Right?!?!? The dog looked like a seal trying to get off the bed all wrapped in the covers…hilarious. You look MARVELOUS and I love all my R+F products too. I use my paste M, W, & F in place of my regimen scrub/mask. The AHS is awesome and Lash Boost is PHENOMENAL!!! Happy Weekend!!!

    1. I grab mine at HEB but I know you don’t have those. They appear to not be horrible to make but I think you would have to have a slicer device to cut them really thin. I struggle when I don’t see results after being so good….but I know it takes time and I just need to stick with the program. Setting a few goals for myself in July so we will see.

      1. I know how you feel. Some days I feel like I’m doing great and can see a difference and some days I feel like a lard!😜 Katie and I are going to try to keep with it for at least the rest of the summer while she’s home. Logging in my food on My Fitness Pal is a helpful pain in the butt…LOL I’ll just stick to using butter/Boston lettuce leaves as a “tortilla”👍🏼 (are the jicama tortillas refrigerated? Just so I can keep an eye out)

  7. Omg! I just snorted water through my nose on that video of Dutch!! I’m back on the water wagon, which is why I didn’t snort Diet Coke!!

  8. That meme is SOOO funny about the Diet Coke. I loved the heatlhy eating challenge. It was so motivating and I loved looking at everyone’s meals. Oh Dutch! Have a great weekend and enjoy sleeping in!!!

  9. Haha I feel the same way about Coke and Pepsi. There’s only one Coke. And that’s all I will drink! Pepsi doesn’t even hold a candle! Although, I am a little biased because I live in the land of Coke… the actual house where the formula was invented is about 10 miles from our house. :o)

  10. You know, I’m 26 and just started getting brown spots. Boo! Looking into ways to combat them. I always use sunscreen on my face, but I think it’s from being in the sun so much with or without sunscreen!

    1. Beth, my oldest daughter is your age and I just ordered her the reverse regimen. She was starting to have some discoloration above her top lip so we will see if we can knock that out. I have tons of spots from my years of being in the sun and even though I never go without sunscreen now, the spots will still return as soon as I spend too much time out. I use the reverse from spring through early fall to try and keep my skin tone even and keep the spots at bay. Why does sun have to be so bad for us?!!

      1. I’m so interested to see how it works for her! Above my upper lip and on my forehead is where those darn brown spots have popped up!

  11. I’m right there with you on the crazy work week! Even though we had the 4th off, I normally only work 4 days anyway. But still…having Tuesday off instead of Monday really threw me and I felt like I was behind all week!

Loved your recap of the healthy eating challenge. I’ve found the same thing to be true since radically altering my eating habits last fall. I’ve enjoyed food so much more!
