Friday Favorites – Marriage

· ·
It’s Friday and I’m so looking forward to a visit to my hometown this weekend to visit my mom, grandmother and the rest of the family!  We will have some yummy food and celebrate Thanksgiving a little early together.  Back to work for only two days next week and then off for five straight days!  It will not be here soon enough!
Here are my favorites for the week!

One
This week I decided to move my marriage up to one of my favorite things.  Move up?  That’s right I said move up.  I have been busy with work and running the kids around and focusing on some home improvement projects and honestly I have been putting the husband on the back burner.  Keith leaves for work every morning between 4:30 and 5:30 and doesn’t return until close to 7 on most nights.  He has a long day and the last thing he needs when he gets home is a nagging wife.  The last thing I have been needing is a hungry husband who just wants to eat and then fall into bed after watching a little TV.  And to think on top of that he might actually expect some lovin’!!  Don’t get me wrong, our marriage is very solid but I think like anything else that is important to you in life if you stop treating it like one of your favorite things it can quickly become a job that is just not very fulfilling. Monday morning starring at me on some form of social media was Lysa TerKeurst 5-Day Challenge (found here) to Pray Boldy for your marriage (God is sneaky that way).  I decided it was just what I needed to read so I signed up.  I just finished reading Day 3 and it has been so good for my heart.   My first reaction is to withdraw and let the bitterness out with snide remarks and just some really not very nice actions.  I may then start praying for Keith….only I am guilty of praying about him instead of praying for him and all the while forgetting that I might need to ask God to soften my heart a little as well.  Marriage is tough but it’s so worth the fight and receiving this email each day this week has helped me to refocus.
Two
An impromptu date night and some much needed one on one time with my husband at one of our very favorite restaurants, Luigi’s.  The atmosphere is always great but going on a Wednesday night we had a nice little corner to ourselves.
Three
One thing for sure that Keith and I both have in common is a love for eating!  We don’t always like the same foods when we dine out but we do love cooking together at home.  I was super excited about having my very favorite dish on our date night.
Four
The first two years we were married Keith actually lived in Austin and only came home one night a week and the weekends.  We joke that this is why things worked out!  We got into a habit of communicating with lots of phone calls and texting and that continued for the next eleven years.  I have to say one of my favorite things is getting a text message from him especially when I may be having a crappy start to the day.  Recently he sent one to me that just read every time you kiss me it’s like sunshine and whiskey and I knew immediately it was from a song but it still gave me butterflies!  Simple as that he still wins my heart and on top of that this became one of my new favorite songs. Mainly because I know it’s true….this man loves me so much and even when I can be a little hard to swallow like a shot of whiskey he still always sees the sun shining through.
Five
Since Keith is an early riser he also goes to bed pretty early and right now I will just tell you that is also one of my favorite things.  I have been having to get up to run at 4:45 several mornings and it sure is nice knowing he’s also up and not snuggled up in bed while I’m dragging my butt out the door!  And yes…that was really stretching for a 5th favorite!
Have a super weekend!

  1. Your hubby sounds wonderful! I can relate to praying about vs praying for, and then forgetting to look at my own attitude. I think sometimes husbands can get lost in the shuffle of the busy-ness of our lives. I so appreciate everything Michael does in our home to keep everything on a steady course!
