Friday Favorites
I am not going to lie, I am happy to bid this week farewell. When I say nothing has gone as planned it is an understatement. A friend of mine had a little Facebook poll this past week asking the question are you a doer or a thinker. Friends….I am a doer in every sense of the word and when something happens to put me in a situation where I cannot “do” life gets somewhat crazy round the casa. I have had a super small medical issue that is not serious in the least but is irritating enough to keep me from my usual self all week long. I even had to reschedule my housecleaner today…and y’all that is serious! Am I the only one that has to have the house orderly before the housecleaner comes? Enough about that…if you are the praying type and have a little room on your list feel free to send up a little prayer that I am 100% again soon.
On to Friday Favorites!

Carly Jo had her dance recital this week! She took ballet and tap when she was younger but for some reason she decided to quit. This year she joined some friends for a Hip Hop class and I’m thrilled that she seems to have a renewed interest in dance! This girl has no trouble getting out on stage and when I watch her I just feel like she is in her happy place! Here is a picture the dance studio took just before she took the stage. Love all her sassiness!

Dillon had a big week too and I was super proud to attend the 7th grade award ceremony. He was awarded a certificate for being student of the month in December and he received the Most Outstanding Student award for his team. I’m so thankful for this wonderful group of teachers he has been blessed with this year. Doesn’t everyone outgrow their teachers in the 7th grade??

A little shout out to my friend Holly who is so gifted with a true heart for service. Each semester she picks up bubble gum and prints Keep Calm and Blow Bubbles cards (300 y’all) and takes the kids to the library on the A&M campus to hand out gum to students studying for finals. I’m lucky enough to tag along for the adventure but totally missed the excitement last night. Carly Jo joined her friend Holden last night for the fun and she was so excited to even see one of her counselors from her after school program. You would be surprised how one little piece of gum can bring so much joy! Holly even set up an Instagram account for Bows and Bros Adventures to track all the fun. She’s amazing and intentional and I’m so glad my kids get the benefit of learning to serve others. If you are not following her blog you totally should be!

Dinner has not been a huge priority this week but we did manage to pull together Shrimp tacos last night! I tossed the shrimp with a little chili powder, cumin and some southwest seasoning I had available and then made the Adobo Sauce from this recipe. I have made this sauce before and it is so delicious but very spicy. There were zero leftovers!

My mom was visiting this week from Monday thru Thursday and with Mothers Day on Sunday I have to say she is one of my favorites. I love having her here and the kids really love it as she picks them up every day from school and takes them to Sonic or wherever the heck their little heart desires. She babies Dutch all day long and there is no telling how many extra treats he actually gets. We love every little crazy hair on her head and are so thankful she is ours! Looking forward to her coming back this weekend so we can celebrate Mothers Day.

If you are looking for a fun Saturday linkup, hop on over to Crazily Normal and join Alycia for her Saturday Spotlight! She is a sweet mom of little Palmer with a new baby on the way. And y’all….she featured my Eating Healthy While Dining Out post last week and I could not have been more excited!
Wishing you all an amazing Mothers Day weekend!

Prayers that you're feeling better soon, it's hard when you're trying to function at lest than 100%. Love the bubble gum tradition, I'm sure those kids love it, too. Happy Mother's Day!
Thank you Amy!! Have a great weekend!
Yes, I absolutely agree with you that the stage is Carly's happy place! She looked like she was having so much fun! And, I know I keep saying this, but my word, can Dillon get more handsome?! I'm all for arranged marriages so can you save him for Holden?! Congrats on the feature! I love Alycia's blog! Probably because I totally get being crazily normal! 🙂 And, thank you, sweet friend for making my day! Your sweet words darn near made me cry! But, you should take some credit for this idea! It was yours, after all! Thank you for letting Carly go! I think they had lots of fun and I know they left many students smiling and a little bit happier after they left. We sure missed Dillon and hope we can all go together next time! Hope you are feeling better soon! Praying for you!!!
Those shrimp tacos look amazing!

First of all, PREACH IT SISTA!! This has been a week from Hell! Excuse my french! But truly!! I'm a doer, too, and I feel like I have done nothing but "do" all week!! But cancelling your housekeeper? Now THAT is serious!! And yes, we were scrounging around the house at 9:00 picking up for our housekeeper today, too, so you're not the only one!! That pic of you and your mom is GORGEOUS!! I hope to goodness you have that one framed! Hang in there, Shelly!! Here comes the weekend!! Thank you, Jesus!!
I use to literally pile all the $*(@ up in a laundry basket and haul it to the care when I didn't have time to pick up! Lol..thankfully things are a little more organized (or I just don't care as much) now! Hope you have a great weekend. Here's to next week being a lot calmer.
How awesome your sweet Mom was able to visit, what a blessing. And those shrimp tacos look to die for girl!!! Have a Happy Mother's Day Shelly!
Sending you some prayers from Cali that you feel better soon…I am leaving in about 20 minutes for a hernia repair surgery so say a little prayer for me too — Please 🙂 No gym classes for a month and no doing anything for at least 2 weeks! I hope my hubby survives me being down! He is used to me doing it all! But he is an amazing caregiver! …….. and I love the bubble gum idea too!
You are going to do great Kim!! I really don't know what my husband would do if I was really down. He seriously just wants to lay in bed beside me when I'm sick and I'm like…buddy…you got stuff to do! Prayers!!
I so clean up before the cleaning lady!! that's why she loves me so much… I am going to make shrimp tacos next week fo' sho'!
Prayers! I hope you get feeling better soon!
Thank you JulieAnn!
I'm so sorry to hear you had a rough week. Thank goodness the weekend is here and maybe you can relax a little on Mother's Day. Dillon has grown so much this year. The shrimp looks delicious. What a great pic of you and your mom. I had a teary moment on the Mother's Day card aisle this year as I realized it was the first year I wouldn't be buying my mom a card. Our relationship had its ups and downs, but we were always faithful about those Mother's day and birthday cards.
I hope you feel better soon. 🙂
Happy Mother's Day, Shelly!!
So fun that you had your mom around this week 🙂
Hope your medical issue resolves so soon!!
How fun that you've got your mom visiting!!! And holy YUM on the shrimp tacos! I just bought shrimp this weekend, so I will be adding it to my weekly menu. Hope you are having a fantastic weekend!
Have a great Mother's Day Kelly
Medical issues – big or "small" – can be SO awful & have such a big effect. Praying you're back to normal by next week!!
Thank you!
