Five on Friday – Hair & Makeup Party

·

How is it on a week starting with a holiday it could feel so incredibly long?! This one so did! I did have a fun night attending a hair & makeup party coordinated by my friend Alyssa. We received a few tutorials and learned about some local stylists fave products and were asked to bring 3 of our fave things to share with others.

Rachel of All Things Blush is a local gal who has moved on to the big city but still comes back to town a few days a week to handle clients at a local salon. She has been styling my daughter’s hair for the past few years as well. If there is a wedding in your future, you also want to check out her jointly owned business, Blush and Glow, to see the magic they bring to bridal parties.

I will be honest, hair and makeup is not my strong suit but I love trying new products and attempting to achieve some of these beautiful looks. Here are just a few products shared with a few tips!

Hair & Makeup Tips and Faves

I’ve shared a few of my beauty favorites in the past so you know I love the Benefit Goof Proof pencil but after a little demo last night I am definitely going to give this Brow Precise a go. For under $10 I was super impressed with the results. I have thicker brows but there are sections which have become a little more sparse with age and I love this product has the little fibers which help create more fullness.

The brow tip of the night? Your brows should be sisters not twins. I heard this for the first time about a year ago and I definitely keep it in mind when I’m trying to get mine too matchy, matchy!

Hair & Makeup Tips and Faves
Titanium Curling Iron

Everyone wants the beach wave look these days and we all have our favorite way to try and achieve. I’ve tried using a want and a flat iron but the curling iron has really been the only thing that works for me. The girls really love this one and highly recommended the titanium for better results.

The more I curl my hair the more I have struggled with keeping it healthy and I always worry about how hot I should actually have my curling iron. The tip they shared was this depends more on how long you are actually holding the heat on your hair. If you are a quick curler you can stand to turn the heat up to a higher setting.

Of course we all should know this already but the reminder to allow the curl to cool down before running a brush or your fingers through will definitely allow the curl to set.

The Kenra Dry Texture spray is one I’ve actually considered many times. My current stylist also uses this and swears by it. Especially if you have fine hair, this texture spray will help give your curls some sticking power. The girls sprayed throughout a guests hair before giving us a tutorial on creating beachy waves. She finished the look with this hairspray which has an adjustable setting for 3 levels of hold .

Based on so many positive reviews I’ve been using It’s a 10 leave in treatment and love it. Rachel swears by the Pureology sister and feels she’s seen even better results. I was lucky enough to have Rachel draw my name and this came home in my favorite things bag!

Of course in a room full of women everyone was throwing out questions about everything from how often to wash to dandruff! They shared the biggest tip for washing your hair is to always wash twice. Yep, use less shampoo but wash, rinse, repeat is the key. If dandruff is an issue they also recommended this scalp scrub once a week.

Hair & Makeup Tips and Faves
OPI Cajun Shrimp

What did I bring for my favorite thing? I grabbed one of my fave spring nail polishes of all time! Cajun Shrimp is one of my faves to bust out in the spring and it is so close the this years Pantone color of 2019!

I’ve been having my nails down with dip the past several months and I’m loving the results but typically use regular polish on my toes. While I want them to look pretty, often times painting my nails leaves them a bit damaged. My friend Holly shared her secret Rescue RX treatment and I’m giving it a go on my naked toes to get them ready for sandal season!

I highly doubt you will ever see any hair or makeup tutorials here on the blog, but I love to share when I find something that works for me or I hear about something new I’m excited to try! Do you have some beauty favorites I should be considering?

We are kicking off our weekend heading out on a couple date with our besties. An old theater in Downtown Bryan was recently restored and is now showing old favorites. We are going to view Family Vacation so I’m sure there will be plenty of laughs!

Wishing you a cozy weekend!
