It is my birthday week and I took the first two days of the week off to basically just do whatever I wanted! I worked out, I had food with friends, I did laundry and I purged my closet and got it all ready for fall. It was ordinary but just what I needed.
This year has been one of joyful highs and extreme lows and one I know I will never forget. Still, I’m so grateful for the chance to live another year even if the circumstances weren’t ideal. I’ve grown so much whether by diving into the Enneagram and learning more about what makes me tick or seeking God not just because I want to but because satan was shooting darts and truth was my only defense.
So many years I woke up on my birhtday already disappointed by the day before it even got started. I longed to be celebrated by the people I love in some big theatric way but no matter what they did or didn’t do somehow they fell short. When you put your joy in someone else’s hands it is always a recipe for trouble.
This year I celebrated myself! It may not have looked fancy but I was full of joy from the moment I opened my eyes. I am worth celebrating whether that looks like a routine day or a room full of my favorite people with their glasses held high.
Taking the day off work is definitely going to be a new tradition! Do you make a habit of celebrating yourself? If not, do it now!!
