Currently October + TBB Linkup

Today I’m joining Anne and Dana for a look at what is currently going on over here as well as Jenn and Jessi for What’s Hap-“pinning” Wednesday.

Last week I decided to move forward with having our main living spaces painted from top to bottom but in my typical fashion I had no idea what kind of time I was looking at.  We emptied the house and lived in squalor for a 4 days but it was 100% worth it!  Currently the house is still not back in order but it looks so clean and fresh and I am over the moon!

Styling

Plaid Placemats | Thankful Placemat

My kitchen table for fall!  After totally pulling everything out of our main living space last week to paint it was nice to pull this together and feel like something was in order.

I managed to also style the built in with a few pieces I feel confident I want to keep but this is really not my skillset.  Not too bad though and glad to have a few fall inspired pieces out.

I’m a little nervous about putting holes in the wall after seeing it all pretty!  That big wall is screaming at me though so I know it won’t be long.  I’m waiting for my grandmother’s chairs to come back from being recovered and cannot wait to see how they turn out.  I’m working with some girls who will be installing the chairs, new rug, ottoman and curtains for this space soon and I’m anxious to see how it all comes together.

Saving

Have I mentioned I use to sell Southern Living?  I have so much home decor stuff and I’m really working on what to save and what to re-purpose.  Here is the first attempt at putting together a new wall in our living room.   I really have too much stuff and have just decided to box it up unless I know for certain I do not want it coming back into the house.  It’s funny how sometimes just moving a few things around can bring some new life to what you already have.

Searching

Now that we have chosen the paint for the main portions of the house, I am searching for ways to finish the front room and entry way.  While this room is intended to be a formal dining area, it definitely serves our family better as a second living space.  The sofa we had was a cheap Craigslist purchase and the kids had definitely used it well.   I’m trying to decide between another couch or two swivel club chairs as the space isn’t huge.  So, I’m searching but not yet 100% sure what for!  Definitely will have to function for the kids and the dog yet look presentable as this is the first room people see when walking in the front door.   I did find these curtains from West Elm during their sale last week so they are my base for this room and I can hardly wait to hang them!

Picking

The entry way as you can see is wallpaper and I decided to replace it with new wallpaper instead of stripping and painting.  We are pulling some blues into other rooms so I’m considering something with a little color but also leaning towards some neutral patterns. I love this foyer Astleigh created in her home!  Can you tell Dutch is even trying to help me decide?  Hopefully sooner than later we will find just the right paper because the new paint has a way of making this wall look even worse!  I would also like to have the piece of furniture painted but cannot decide for sure on a color. Any suggestions?

Making

Progress!  We have lived in our house for 14 years and have finally reached a point we can afford to hire some help to finish up my to do list!  Having the paint complete from top to bottom has made me so happy.  You can take a walk down memory lane with our home tour and see we have made lots of progress.

This space is so, so close to being complete!  We are waiting on a piece of furniture to be installed and painted in October and I’m considering a new round table but we will see.

What are you currently up to this first week of October?  Is your house all ready for fall or are you falling a little behind like me?

  1. Everything looks so good! I keep thinking I want to repaint but it’d be so much to do on my own and we can’t hire anyone right now. Love your fall table scape, too!

    1. I feel ya Sarah…I’ve been trying to do this myself for sooooooo long! I basically have painted my entire house; some rooms more than once. I just really suck at fixing the walls and never got around to the woodwork. It looks so much better now. It was totally worth saving for!

    1. I’m in love with the color after stressing over the choice since like May! I make myself so nutty over these decisions. 🙂 The girls I’ve been working with will be installing the rest of my stuff on Monday and Tuesday and I can hardly wait to see the finished product. very exciting.

  2. WOW WOW…I love your paint color! It looks so “clean” and fresh, and it definitely adds a modern touch to your home. Love it! I am leaning toward a slightly more beige tone for the paint color, but hoping for a similar look.

We are also planning to repurpose our front formal living room. It is a big open space connected to our dining room that we never use. My in-laws have a pool table they never use, so we are going to make the front room a pool table/lounge area for the kids. Hopefully the space will get more use that way! Have a great day!

    1. Thank you! I’m pretty darn happy with it. It is still probably a little more greige than it appears in these pictures but it kind of changes with the lighting. I’m all for using the space to the highest use. We really could use about 1000 more square feet but we are just going to suck it up until Carly graduates so we wont’ be tied down by the school district.

  3. I love the new paint job! Paint can really refresh a room. I’m itching to redo some of our stuff too, mainly the couch, I really want to recover them, I’m tired of living with something I didn’t really pick, ya know? Even though we bought it brand new.

  4. Love that dress! You look fab. And with a torn up kitchen right now, I totally get how annoying it is to have all of your stuff displaced… but nice when it’s worth it in the end 🙂

  5. Your house is the cutest!!! It makes me feel better that you worked for Southern Living but I’m assuming your space would be super cute even if that weren’t the case 😉 And I love that outfit!

  6. I absolutely love the paint color and it looks so fresh! Great choice! We are getting ready to head to the beach house tomorrow- Sunday and I can’t wait. Last time we were there was end of August! Fall is always a hard time with events, Fresno State football, and just super busy! I am ready for a few days over there as I know my house misses us! haha! We are starting to bring out our vacation clothes because we are heading to Maui for a week!! I can’t wait to get away with Tony and just relax. We have 3 days of golf planned and 3 days of a rented pool cabana! it is the one place where Tony relaxes completely! So I am off to pull out suits and shorts and golf clothes!

    1. Thank you Kimberly! When I saw these placemats I knew they would be perfect. Really debating the runner too for my console table. I pined over this couch for 3 years and really tried hard to find another I loved as much but just kept going back to it. We just got it in May and I’m so happy with the quality and the comfort.

  7. Oh wow, you used to sell Southern Living at Home? I used to buys TONS of it! Lol, I was addicted and still have so many pieces. We’re doing some updating at our house and it pains me to get rid of some of it – but it’s time to let some things go so others can enjoy it! I LOVE those placemats too!

    1. Yes girl….I have more dishes than I could ever use! I definitely think I’m going to get rid of more before this is all over with but I have loved it all so much. I know a friend spray painted a ton of hers to make it a little more up to date but who has time for that ..haha

  8. I love your new paint! Looks so bright, clean and airy. The wall arrangement looks good. It’s so nerve racking putting holes in freshly painted walls. Your dress looks great with the scarf and then the jacket too. Happy Wednesday!!! XO

  9. So pretty Shelly! It must be that time of year. We are getting an estimate soon with our painting situation. We have a 2 story greatroom, hallways, stairway and 2story entranceway that needs painted. It is such a great feeling I imagine when done! Love the wall art, we have the “J” too and “R” for Roy, my hubby. Love your scarf with those booties!
    Enjoy your week.
